Just read this in the instructions. Not all brands of discs will be compatible with ths DVD Recorder. How am I supposed to know which ones to buy without forking out another £7.99!!!!!! if you look at the front of your dvd recorder it will have DVD+ or DVD- so you would need to buy DVD disc's with the same symbol [+ or -] on it ...if it has +/- it can take any...i hope that makes sense Edit: the writing can be very small so you will have to look very carefully This post has been edited by sunday: 6th June 2008, 06:48 PM |

Can't you go on line to ask the manufacturer which discs you should be using? What is the make of the recorder?

Apparently this is a common problem i was just fortunate enough to pick up the correct DVDs when i recently bought some.
lots of people asking the same question on yahoo. QUOTE Is there a difference between DVD-RW and DVD+RW? I recently purchased a DVD recorder. The instruction manual states that I must have a DVD-RW or DVD-R disc in order to record. I purchased DVD+RW disks. When I put the DVD+RW disc into the drive, it would not recognize the disc QUOTE The letters DVD+RW and DVD-RW are similar, but they are 2 completely different formats. -RW is the version that is approved by the DVD Consortium, and is playable in more recorders. However, this format is not as good for data storage and error correction. The +RW format is better for these purposes. You'll have to either return your +RW discs or find someone to sell or give them to. They just aren't going to work Have you changed your DVD recorder recently TT because i sent you DVD+RW [the proms] so if that worked you might need the same DVD discs. It plays both + & - dvds sunday & the booklet definitely says it needs blank -r & -Rw's to record on which I bought. I've now managed to record a couple of things on a Philips DVD but sometimes when I put the same DVD in it says it's the wrong disc then when I try again it accepts it. Still won't accept any of the Imation Dvds though. That's why I've come to the conclusion it's the actual Dvd recorder. |

That happend to my DVD a few months ago, it wouldn't play even ones that had always played .... it just got worse and worse until it was barely excepting anything...eventually bought another one last week...[ i didn't want to chance it with it being so near to Will promoting ...came out in a cold sweat at the DVD refusing to record at a vital moment ]the things i do for Will we have sky+ so dont use the dvd for anything but recording Will when he is on tv This post has been edited by sunday: 6th June 2008, 08:01 PM |

I believe DVDs (whether they are -R or +R) will play on most recorders as long as they are finalised.

Like you I've been testing out the equipment ready for Will being back on the scene. We got the dvd free when we bought our new tv about 18months ago but have never used it. Guess it doesn't owe us anything but I'm not sure hubby will see the importance of buying another one just for Will especially as we already have another dvd that is play only & a playstation that plays discs.. QUOTE I believe DVDs (whether they are -R or +R) will play on most recorders as long as they are finalised. I'm sure you are right Pearl. It's getting the discs accepted in the first place that seems to be the problem. At least Will is giving me plenty of time to sort the problem. My balance is awful, and what with the broken rib, the after effects of the op (part of my right torso is still numb) I think I'll give this a miss. Good luck to you sunday. |

Thank goodness I'm not into exercising. Mind you I wouldn't mind running across a few fields. |

I couldn't even do that at the moment TT - not even with Will at the end as an incentive. Only just managed it at Killerton. I am hoping to test my new camera out... it records really well and as stereo sound but it's a little bit bulky so i am going to atempt to smuggle it in to chiswick so hopefully you will get to see it |

Brilliant sound sunday. I'll let you an old mac to hide the new camera under if you want. Better not - you might be picked up by the police if you had an old mac on, especially if it's a very hot day.
