I found this and the response to it really interesting, The music industry are at times it's own worst enemy and it's quite ridiculous that the record companys makes things so hard for people abroad to get Will's or anyone else's music.

Greed and Stupidity cause the music industry to lose money
Posted by Ron in Maine on January 5, 2012

I was on a web site recently. It was a discussion forum. One forum visitor, replying to a another who was having a particularly difficult struggling with an emotional issue, posted a link to a music video. I was curious so I clicked the link. I was brought to YouTube and a video for a song called “Jealousy” by Will Young. I had no idea who Will Young was, nor had I ever heard that song. I loved it. (See bottom of this posting for the video link.)

After a little research I found out the Will Young was the original “Idol” from the very first year in the U.K. The original version of the show is called “Pop Idol” and when it later came to America, “American Idol”. But Will Young was the very first ever in that franchise to win. And he’s had a VERY successful carreer. I couldn’t believe that even with all that I had never heard of him. I’m not a kid anymore but I try to keep up with what’s going on in the world. So finding the song, and the artist was a pleasant surprise.

I immediately fired up iTunes (as much as I hate iTunes, sometimes that’s just where you have to go) and did a search. A pop up box said he couldn’t be found. I was surprised and a little bummed out. But the pop up box also said that what I was looking for was available on the UK iTunes site. Cool!. So I followed the link to there and found the song. When I tried to purchase it, I was asked for my iTunes account and after typing that in, I was told I couldn’t buy the song because I was in the US and I “wasn’t allowed” to purchase the song. What?! I suddenly remembered this happening to me a year or so ago when I tried to download some other song. At that time I went through the process of setting up and account on the UK iTunes website, made up a UK address and all went well until I put in my credit card number. I was told the credit card number belonged to a USA bank and therefore could not be used. f***ed again. At that time, I gave up, pissed off at how stupid this all was.

But not this time; I wasn’t giving up. I went to Amazon.com and did a search and had the same problem with not being able to purchase it because I was in the US. I was not yet deterred complete. While FREE music download sites like Napster, Limewire and Kazaa are long gone.there are still ways to get free music.

Let me say, first and foremost, that I believe in paying for music. If I could have handed Will Young the $20 for his CD personally, I would have done it gladly. I would have paid him, his record company, a record store, or anybody else to legally purchase this music. HOWEVER, THE MUSIC INDUSTRY ITSELF HAD MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO PURCHASE THE MUSIC I WANTED.

By using a torrent download site I was able to get the entire Will Young CD called “Echoes”. I probably shouldn’t admit that I did it because it’s probably illegal. But I will gladly pay the $20 to whomever should get it, if they can tell me how I can purchase the music without having to fly to the UK to do it.

So, music industry folks, I don’t know if you are dumb, greedy, or both. It seems that one begets the other. But you need to get you act together. I believe that most people are like me. I would gladly pay for ANY AND ALL MUSIC THAT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE, JUST GIVE ME A WAY TO DO IT. Get your lawyers and your licensing and your greed in check and then people won’t be forced to steal music from the Internet.

Let me tell you something: music is a very personal thing. When a song hits you, it hits you hard and you will do anything to get it just so you can listen to it anytime you want, over and over again. Some music is just like that – you simply must have it. It’s innate. I’ll say it one more time. I WOULD GLADLY PAY FOR THE MUSIC I WANT IF YOU GIVE ME A WAY TO DO IT. And I believe most people out there feel the same way.

By the way, if you are interested in the song I was trying to find, here it is. The dance edit called “Alias Edit” is fantastic, as is the rest of the CD. If you are in the US, good luck. Maybe I should send it out to anyone who want it.

Metro..
Simon Cowell blasts 'obnoxious' Will Young ten years after Pop Idol victory

Simon Cowell can't bring himself to bury the hatchet with Will Young after admitting he still doesn't like the 'obnoxious' singer, a decade on from their famous Pop Idol showdown. Cowell makes his feelings very clear on Saturday night’s ITV1 documentary The Talent Show, which takes a look back at 32-year-old Young’s triumph over Gareth Gates in the 2002 final.
‘I thought he was obnoxious, full of himself,’ said Cowell, reflecting on Young’s backchat during the series.

‘I thought, “This will be interesting. You don’t like me, and I don’t like you”. Nothing’s changed, particularly.’

Cowell is so haunted by Young’s triumph that he can’t handle any reminders of the Jealousy singer’s victory.

‘I felt sick,’ the 52-year-old confessed. ‘That’s how much it affected me.

‘I still, to this day, can’t watch the final back because I was really, really disappointed. I really liked Gareth and wanted him to win.’

Cowell has dug his heels in over the bad feeling between the two and refused to let the spat go after repeated taunts from Young.

Last year, the singer stuck the knife in after it was claimed some of Cowell’s contestants were being auto-tuned. ‘I thought it was outrageous,’ Young said.

‘I thought it was going to be the demise of Cowell. I thought, “Brilliant!”’

Young was also happy to slate the TV baby of his nemesis, and said: ‘It’s no longer a talent show, it’s a soap opera.’

Managed by Cowell’s rival, Simon Fuller, Young panned the longevity of The X Factor flops.

He told Metro last year: ‘Simon Fuller says that he has always managed me like he’s always wanted me being around for ten years.’

Thanks Bev! This goes to prove (if what's printed here is true) that everything we can look back on...example Cowell defending Will on W.Idol was all false really. Same goes for Will, for years he's declared there's no bad feeling between himself and Cowell...that it was all in the past even though they'd never be friends.
Will showed his true feelings on the Jo Whiley Sky Arts show and in another interview admitted that he said the right things to ensure the opportunity of appearing on xfactor to help sell records.

I hope Cowell had nothing to do with ditching Will from The Voice...money talks and is powerful. Not that I was personally bothered about Will not being on the judging panel but hated how much Will was affected by it.

I must be so gullible because I always believed what was said.

I have just been reading that online. I did wonder why Will was so outspoken about Cowell recently. He is not beholding to Cowell any more and obviously doesn't feel the need to pander to him to sell his records - even though it gets a huge audience. And they have seen a downturn in audience last year and XFactor has not gone down at all well in the US tongue.gif

He got the arse because he couldn't manipulate the public into backing his favourite. He hadn't taken into account the fact that people swung their votes towards someone other than his favourite. He tried hard to convince people that Gareth was the runaway winner. The voting stats proved that it was all a big lie. Imo that's why he so wanted a show of his own so he could manipulate to his heart's content.

He hates to lose Bev despite the fact that his 'winners' and people he has backed in the past have all pretty much fallen by the wayside with one or two exceptions who have managed to escape his clutches.

I suspect this will bring all the GG lovers out of the woodwork and onto Twitter in their droves laugh.gif

Do you know what Lesley - my husband reckons that someone had it in for him who pulled strings.

Editing to add - I bet Will doesn't appear to give his thoughts on this as Gareth does laugh.gif

Runner-up Gates, who also appears on the show, remembers: 'I just had a block, I thought it had wrecked my chance.'

I actually felt sorry for Gareth, in hindsight, because he had been promised he would win. Whatever happened to "There can only be one winner" - yeah right - not where Scowell was concerned. rolleyes.gif He later made certain Gareth got star billing even perpetuating the story that Gareth was 'the' Pop Idol, that even today some people think Will was the runner-up.

Cowell is just a sore loser who dumps his artists when things don't go to plan.

I don't think Cowell has any power over the BBC does he? even i don't believe that and i can be very cynical when it comes to him. Having Will on their show would of given them a lot of Press interest especially now with Cowell spitting the dummy over something that happend ten years ago.. laugh.gif
It's all over the net.. Cowell looks like a twat as usual tongue.gif But yes he did promise Gareth that he would be the bigger star..than he would break him in the US and then two albums in it was see you later Gareth.

I agree, Simon Cowell doesn't hold the sway he did a few years ago, and this shows his judgment has always been dodgy. As I remember he said in his book that he saw his original attitude to Will winning as a character flaw. I wonder if he hasn't liked Will's more recent comments which have shown more of his true feelings.

The Daily Star paper has this story on page 3 (opposite the day's page 3 "beauty" incidentally rolleyes.gif ) with a bare chested Cowell doing a thumbs up sign and the heading
QUOTE
I HATE WILL!
Then under the pic
QUOTE
Si: He's obnoxious and I wish Gareth had won.
Then there's a smiley pic of Will, saying:
QUOTE
WINNER: Will stood up to Cowell's jibe

I'd be more worried if Cowell actually liked Will. Someone honest & full of integrity could never get on with Cowell. He likes people with no backbone who are easily manipulated.

It gives me great pleasure to know Will's long term success still rankles with him. laugh.gif

Has our friend Val crawled out of the woodwork on twitter yet?

Stronger is one of my all time fave Will songs or as i like to call it 'Ode to Cowell'

In the words of Will

''You won first place but you take second best''

and
''It only makes me Stronger
When you say i cant do it
I work that bit harder
when you say its not within my grip
The barriers, i'll break em down
I'll prove myself, i'll stick around
I'll get through all this somehow
Nothings unreachable''

Cannot believe he's still obsessed over Gareth losing! thats sad, i mean he was more of a Westlife boyband type manager then
so Gareth was perfect for him. But 10 years on, after all the talented contestants apart from Will who sing amazingly like Leona Lewis
Alexandra Burke, Susan Boyle etc have gone by, can he honestly hole-heartedly say that Gareth was the best contestant and the most deserving
winner? I loved Nicky and Foxy's blatant bias that they tried hiding - it was obvious they wanted Willl. I even liked how Foxy said after one of Gareths
performances 'You can't really criticise your performance' because he must not have liked it, thats a rarity on talent show final.

Honestly though, Will won because on the 3 songs he more than outsthone and outsang Gareth. It also restored my faith in the British public, they made the
right call they say through the semi-talented teen bopper and realized that the more talented contestant should win, it was a nice surprise i think one of the
best twists to a talent show, everyone sort of wanted it - but didn't think it could happen because of Gareths insane hype, but it was so satisfying. I'm sure Pete
was hinting 'Everyone says they know who is going to win this competition, i say you don't know, it is so close - vote''.

I actually honestly think that Gareth didn't even deserve 2nd place. Zoe and Hayley where much more talented than Gareth and deserved to be higher, i'd have preferre
Zoe coming 2nd i've always said that, and then Hayley 3rd, Gareth 4th, and then Darius afterwards. Gareth wasn't the best singer on that competition, and that was
obvious he's not untalented, he sing better than some boyband members i have seen, but not a patch on Will.

Can you imagine how cringeworthy the Gareth montage on X Factor would be with Cowell's company in charge of producing the show, they'd make it over the top
and do so many bottom 2/judges vote things to get rid of Will. Cowell would of tried anything.

I do think perhaps Cowell has been misinterpreted, i don't think he said that he hates Will - he's praised him a few times on Richard and Judy, he let him be Cheryl's guest
judge, he let him on to do 'Grace' and admitted to Holly on Xtra Factor he was excited to let him on, he seemed to enjoy the preformance, he even when WIll finished rushed
up to clap Will and seemed 'proud'- even on World Idol LMF he praised Will for doing it his way, and for what he even admitted was a great album. I think Cowell may have been
talking about the fact that even today they havent mended paths, maybe he wants Will to start the healing process!?

He must not like that Will stood up to say he wasn't gonna do Suspicious Minds, Will beat his preferred winner, Leave Right Now finished the career of his preferred winner when it
showed the public the comparison between the two.

Cowell tried everything. Gareth got the same winners treatment, not very fair me thinks. There's a point to voting on this show isn't there? I don't think Gareth's fully to blame i mean
he wanted to Win, he got shortcuts and help as he was blatantly bad a few weeks but was still praised,he got good slots everytime.

Must agree with you sajjadali. I would have ranked GG a lot lower. Definitely behind Hayley and Jessica and possibly Darius and Korben (we didn't see enough of him to truly judge).

Cowell just makes himself look foolish banging on about Gareth winning in light of both his and Will's subsequent careers.

All the publicity may shift a few more copies of Echoes. cheer.gif
