I'm sure when Skall voted late one contest last year they received a deduction but no ban? (Though they didn't enter the next contest or the one after anyway). I think the rules regarding non-voting are perfect as they are but I thought the precedent was that if late votes are accepted you don't get banned. Might be wrong.

This is why the rules need to made concrete in such situations, different precedents have been set numerous times. I know I've been guilty of missing it myself and didn't get a ban but that was the INFAMOUS 12PM/12AM fiasco.

It was Ryan's choice to accept the votes but the final decision regarding banning comes down to mods. I'd like some more consistency and so I stand behind banning those who missed the deadline this time in the interests of fairness.
This is why we'd like to enforce midnight deadlines but it was clearly set out in the thread and the reminders. |

Not something Ryan was in a position to tell you. The decision to ban comes from the moderators, not the host. Well I did refer back to a previous contest when this happened to check what does happen regarding bans for accepted late voters. In BJSC 53 both Mdice and Greenfroze voted late in the final but were still allowed to participate in the next contest. So I think you need to clear up the rules as you are showing a lack of consistency and I'm just basing my information on what happened in previous contests. |

Surely you should allow Phlox & Jester participate in the next contest and from here on be consistent regarding late voting....
It's the last contest next month. HAVE A HEART. |

I can sort of understand barring the late voters (poor Jester though ) but surely Phlox being in hospital is a legitimate excuse? I'm not criticising anything here, I just feel that seems a bit unfair.

I think we'd have been more lenient on Phlox had he not claimed the deadline to be midnight.

Yeah, some people are being really unacceptable towards Phlox just because he was in hospital.

Phlox said that he was perfectly capable of voting the previous day so I don't think he has a legitimate excuse beyond misreading the deadline.

Oh, if that's the case then I agree with the mods' decision.

I think we'd have been more lenient on Phlox had he not claimed the deadline to be midnight. I believe he may have thought the deadline was 12pm, I'm sure he had other things on his mind. Phlox's votes shouldn't have been accepted if he was going to be banned from the next contest. He did attempt to vote (no matter how late it was). Isn't BJSC meant to be fun? CONSISTENCY PLZ. |

Congrats SevenSeize, that's twice you've won with songs I've purchased but would never have thought to send here! Pleased it won over Goldroom, it was probably 11th-12th for me but should never have finished 17 places higher than the wonder that is Sweetness Alive (still my favourite song sent to BJSC this year that I didn't know already)

I know it's totally a mods decision but I'd rather have Jester and Phlox the next contest! But that's because I'm very mild and don't like any bans at all. Besides, more people = more fun.

Phlox said that he was perfectly capable of voting the previous day so I don't think he has a legitimate excuse beyond misreading the deadline. So glad someone else read that! Was beginning to think I was genuinely hallucinating. (tyvm Griff) The fact that he was online to 'read' the 24hr warning PM means he could also have submitted votes then. I'm not a heartless cunt, but the exemption is for people who genuinely couldn't make it online. Phlox has clearly stated he would have been able to vote on Friday night, ergo no exemption. From my view that is us sticking to precedence and being consistent.. We've had people not vote for legitimate reasons before but not tell us until after the fact and they were subject to the one contest ban. |

The ban is necessary as a deterrent for non-voting like Silas said. Before it was enforced there was no incentive for people who DNQed to vote in the final at all.

HA!
i've always thought that the one contest ban for people who are in the final was a bit much because for most people it is about the success and punishment for that is enough, and 33% deductions can cause some hefty drops. when casey failed to vote re: mr. little jeans that threw them from 13-27! i agree with the one contest ban for people who dnqed because otherwise there's nothing to convince them to vote. |
