Valdes is way to good to be a back up at Manchester United though, I'm hoping that Cech joins Liverpool on loan, it could really benefit Chelsea's title hopes! I'm also rather delighted to see Liverpool back on some sort of form!

Swansea has agreed a fee of £30m to sell Wilfred Bony to Manchester City.
A lot of money for a fourth-choice striker who will definitely be behind Aguero, Dzeko, Jovetic in the pecking order. |

Jermain Defoe is having a medical at Sunderland. What do people make of this possible signing for Sunderland?
The signing of Wilfried Bony has been completed from Swansea to Man City. It makes him the most expensive African footballer in history. |

Well to be fair to Sunderland, signing a goalscorer could be good for them. It's not like they've been beaten out of sight that many times this season, they've just drawn too many games. Good signing if he scores 5-8 goals.

This could burden the club for years though. If he flops and Sunderland go down they may have to subsidise his wages in order to get him off the books!!
Big risk if he's lost that yard of pace. |

He'll get a few, although he can't play up front on his own which may create problems. They've drawn a lot this season because they've been very solid and relied on a packed midfield, playing two up front could leave them very vulnerable.

Arsenal have signed Krystian Bielik from Legia Warsaw,
Do you think there'll be any big-name transfers in the upcoming days or not? |

There will be the usual panic buys, but I don't think any of the big clubs will be signing anyone of any significance. I expect deadine day to be manic though when clubs cave in to demands. |

Arsenal have bought Villarreal's defender Gabriel Paulista for £11.2m deal with Joel Campbell moving the opposite way on loan.
West Brom have signed Calum McManaman from Wigan for £4.75m. |

Quiet window so far in truth, maybe the mostly settled managerial situation at most clubs is playing a part in that. Managers are placing faith in the current squads.
The maddest window I remember was 2011, with those Torres and Carroll moves There's normally a relegation threatened team who splurge on a whole host of panic buys (Portsmouth 2006, West Ham 2007 & QPR 2013) but not this year. |

I think a lot of it is down to FFP. Think one or two things might happen on deadline day when panic stations set in, but ultimately I think a lot of clubs are worried about FFP. |

Undoubtedly FFP is playing a crucial part. Eventually some clubs will find a way around the system (like Man United and Liverpool are trying to with sponsorship deals) but at the moment clubs are worried about any repercussions.
Sunderland paying 14m and 80k a week to Defoe is arguably the only panic buy so far. |

All the clubs are trying to get around it - Man City with their ridiculously fake sponsorships & Chelsea with stock-piling talent & selling them on. At least the commerical deals Liverpool/Manchester United/Arsenal do are legit, and actually represent the commercial value of the clubs, especially the first two. I think they're all worried. Liverpool are under investigation, and Man Utd will have one eye on next season as they will be under investigation next season too. |

Chelsea and Man City are the 'nouveau riche' clubs though with billionaire benefactors - they're not traditionally big clubs like Arsenal/Liverpool/Man United. I think they have to be more inventive to get around FFP than the other three, who can rely somewhat on their global image.
FFP has almost closed off the top of the league in a way. To establish yourself as a top 4 side now you'd have to spend hundreds of millions which FFP prohibits. Southampton may finish 4th this year, but how long can they maintain it? Newcastle and Everton have fallen away after finishing 5th in recent years. Story is repeated across the big European leagues. |

Agree they have to be inventive as they don't have the global image - and it's a tough market, because I think Liverpool & Manchester United have that monopoly, and I can't see it changing for as long as they both remain competitive. Hmm it has, but realistically these teams can never compete long term. Southampton for example - I'm sure in the summer teams will be in for the likes of Wanyama, Schierderlin, Clyne and Ward-Prowse. It just happens, and you can't always get lucky with making good purchases like they did in the summer. At least with the Premier League, whilst I think Man City & Chelsea have the best squads, the other 4 teams can compete with them and can plausibly win the title. |

There was the option of a billionaire coming and catapulting a club into the top 4 (as unsubtle as that was). Before Roman came to Chelsea in 2003, only Arsenal and Man United were able to win the title.
Tottenham are an example of a club without massive financial backing that has competed at the top for years now. I feel (relative) lack of money has prevented them becoming a consistent top 4 side. |

Arsenal and United were winning the leagues at the time, but Liverpool were challenging, and so were Newcastle and Leeds United! It's just really over the Premier League era at least that Manchester United/Liverpool/Arsenal have always remained there or thereabouts. Hell even a few years ago Villa were doing similar to what Everton did for the past few seasons. Tottenham are competing without really ever doing too much. They're only there or thereabouts, but it was since Liverpool dropped out of reckoning for a few years that they clawed their way back in to the top. Then selling Bale/Modric allowed them to build a squad to compete. Although that team that Redknapp had in 2010/2011 was really strong. A couple of better players and they could have really pushed on. |
