One that got away hate cry.gif

Teenage dream is so bland and overrated. I don't know how people regard it as her best (let alone anywhere near her best)

I don't know how it's overrated, it seemed to be the overlooked/forgotten about single from that era at the time. I guess because 'Firework' was the follow-up and it had been so much bigger, that usually happens if that's the case.

It's gone on to become her best for me, definitely.

'the one that got away' is just basic for me, katy can do emotional songs really well, but it just doesn't do an awful lot for me. I think I feel the way about that song the way most feel about 'unconditionally' and vice versa. it's so much better.

Unconditionally is painful for me, I will never get over her dire pronunciation of the word. Most of her single choices have been spot on though. I'd have liked to have seen Self Inflicted as a single but I can't imagine it would have done that much sad.gif

Some of yáll need to realise that doing well =/= quality music

Well in a discussion about songs being singles (i.e. commercial vehicles for sales) then I think doing well should be the defining factor of what should and shouldn't have been one. For example, I really don't like 'California Gurls' at all but you'd be crazy to think that shouldn't have been a single. Same for 'Roar'.

The One Who Got Away is RIDICULOUSLY overrated. It is great ,but for people to consider it to be her best when she has songs like Hot N Cold, Firework, E.T., Dark Horse, Roar and Teenage Dream in her discography.... drama.gif

What's with all the "Teenage Dream" hate, it's a fantastic song and definitely one of her best, most people love it and is my fave single from her, the perfect follow up to California Gurls, infact that entire era was perfect.

Also like "Unconditionally" and thought it was a great choice, but I think what went wrong was the timing, as "Roar" was still dominating everywhere at the time, and Unconditionally got lost amongst the hype and wasn't given the right push. I don't think a lot of people knew it was released and therefore got overshadowed, then after Roar started to die down, all the hype started on Dark Horse.

But still think that "Birthday" was released way too soon as well, and should have been the 5th single instead. If "Walking On Air" was released following "Dark Horse", then that would have definitely performed better and smashed worldwide, or at least made top 10 in USA and UK. Then Birthday would have probably performed about the same as it did.

Roar>>Unconditionally>>Dark Horse>>Walking On Air>>Birthday>>Legendary Lovers or By The Grace Of God. That would have been another perfect run of singles.

^ Two perfect posts from Liam/Acidburn! All my thoughts too.

The One That Got Away was good, but definitely the worst 'Teenage Dream' single. Come at me!

What she should have done with Prism is release 'Walking On Air' as the 4th single and left the era at that, although 'Birthday' properly grew on me as a single and I absolutely love it.

The One That Got Away is a good song, I'd admit I wasn't that keen on it at first, but when it became a single and that great music video, it all made sense to me, but still would have loved "Hummingbird Heartbeat" as a single though, during that time. BTW "Part Of Me" is probably my least fave from that era.

I think Prism should have gone Roar -> Dark Horse -> Walking on Air -> This is How We Do -> Birthday

At first I didn't understand why The One That Got Away was released, because even though I love it, I didn't think it would smash. Then the only one since then that I was like "HUUUUH!?!" was This Is How We Do, but I kind of like it now.
