QUOTE one of my favourite authors Alain de Botton says that people only start to get interesting when they rattle the bars of their cages. that idea of being inherently half as bad as we are good is something I'm fascinated by. Balance. Equal portions. Im a big advocate for twistedness, for the negative emotions I used to be inclined to push away. Boredom, frustration, obsession, hunger, melancholy. I can't be euphoric all the tiiiime (then I'd forget the feeling) welcome to my space. The characters all have purpose, most are from literature. patrick bateman is in there, among others... being a blog-pop female has to be one of the hardest roles in the internet music world to make it in. with the prevalence of blogs the number of women putting out indifferent electro-pop is on the rise. it's a genre i once adored but now most new examples wash over my head. therefore eves the behavior is something of a total rarity. an excellent, somewhat fresh track accompanied with well considered, thoughtful and perfectly poised visuals. she has a real magnetic persona too, star quality. hit pls! Liking this instantly, very commercial too so could be quite the success if she is pushed. I agree she makes a nice change to all the other females being blogged about, the tune is there but the lyrics are different to what you'd expect from something quite mainstream.

Came across this a week ago and have been completely hammering it since! I was immediately struck by the lyrics and I agree that they help set the song apart from the norm of the genre. It has real hit potential too so I hope that's realised (in her native Australia at least).

Also have been really into this lately, as well as her song "Zen" she released about a year ago when she was just called Eves.

Also have been really into this lately, as well as her song "Zen" she released about a year ago when she was just called Eves. Omg yes! Zen is spectacular. I need to listen to TV without comparing the two because that seems to be hindering my enjoyment of it.Just cracked the top 200 on iTunes today which is already way better than I'd have expected. That was without the video though, which was a huge part of Zen for me so I'll try TV again with visuals included. EDIT: Scratch that! Watched the video, could not be more obsessed. |

This is excellent! Her songs have such an effortlessly mesmerising quality to them. Love her lyrics as well.

The song's out now in the UK with an EP to follow next month.
Kind of non-eventful but she's perfect so I don't care <3 |

Hmm I like it, particularly the lyrics (unsurprisingly), but it's a bit awkwardly put together. It's really in need of a pre-chorus, especially at 1:40 when the second chorus starts abruptly and it's all pretty jarring. Quite an odd middle 8 as well. Definitely my least favourite of her songs on first impression but I might grow to love its unconventionality.

QUOTE(V Mag) “This is a song called 'Girl.' I guess it's about getting pissed off at being treated like one.” That’s how Island Records' latest signee Hannah Karydas, aka Eves the Behavior, describes her new track on Twitter. The London-based Australian-born artist has been releasing saccharine-free pop tracks with philosophical leanings since last year. Think of fellow Australasian Lorde and her rightful lambasting of superficiality and status quo. Karydas sings, “I refuse to be trapped by a name that keeps dragging me down.” But the singer makes it clear that “this is not just about girls. We are more than just pronouns.” She talks, too, about Joan of Arc, the 15th century French heroine who later became an icon of a certain type of feminism: “I thank Joan for my health / She taught me to respect myself.” The song’s cover art sees a chart—a diary really—of important moments in the artist’s life that clearly contributed to the creation of “Girl.” There are notes about being “gifted Girls Like Us [by Sheila Weller] for Christmas,” having “bought and read Just Kids, the Patti Smith memoir,” and the first time she read I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai, the youngest-ever winner of the Nobel Prize. Perhaps the most attractive quality of Eves the Behavior’s work is that its intentions are not so easily understood, and yet the music itself is as accessible as any mainstream hit. While there are certainly plenty of so-called female-empowering tracks hitting the radio waves from the likes of Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and Taylor Swift, those often center solely on sexual confidence and ex-lovers. Karydas’s message comes closer to, if anything, Ariana Grande’s recent decry of being described as “Big Sean’s ex.” She rejects male dependence with the words, “I never want to be your girl again.” |
