There are numerous cooking/food shows on TV with shows like Saturday iamspamspamamiand Sunday Brunch filling up the weekend morning schedules. Celebrity chefs also help to dominate primetime with their own shows such as Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsey, Nigella Lawson, Jimmy Doherty and Heston Blumenthal.

Who are your favourite TV chefs and have you ever attempted to follow one of their TV recipes? What style of food shows do you enjoy more, do you prefer straightfoward recipe shows or do you like to see chefs exploring food in more of a documentary style?

For me, I'm not really a food show fan as I know I'll never follow any of the recipes (laugh.gif) but I do watch every Heston programme that comes on as I love his experimentations and playing around with food and its not as though you can reproduce it at home anyway! (that reminds me I have to catch up on his recent stuff on 4od though!)

I'll always remember Nigella Lawson for that section on Gogglebox when all the men were smitten with her seductive cooking! rotf.gif

The relatively few times I've watched food shows, it's always been because I've been drawn in by the personality of the chef/presenter - I'd have zero interest in watching them solely for the recipes (maybe with the exception of Heston because his experimental stuff can be really fascinating). I've always liked Jamie Oliver as his passion for what he does always comes across very naturally. Gordon Ramsay's a real character, love him or hate him, so I completely see why he's so popular on TV and I've enjoyed his shows in the past. I don't know if she's well-known in the UK but I can't bear watching Rachel Allen, even though the stuff she does seems quite manageable/practical, due to her horribly affected 'posh' accent (and also she's just generally quite dull).

All that said, I don't think I've ever been arsed to actually follow a recipe from a TV show, despite my best intentions while watching!

I suspect you have that in common with most people who watch these programmes laugh.gif

i used too (and still do sometimes) tune in to dave and watch man V food and just get so hungry.

i saw 1 episode where he had to do a chicken challenge, and from then on i've been hooked on it

i also enjoyed the hungry sailors, and i love the hairy bikers best of brittish

jamie's home comforts is always good too

oh, and i liked the ITV series... i don't remember the name, but where they put loads of bakeries up against each other then choose the best.

not brittish bake off, the other one

used to show it in the evenings before the chase
