Was on Now 67 in 2007, but posthumously went to #8 on the UK singles chart in July 2011 following her untimely death. I bought the CD single at the time it was released as in April 2007 the song went to #1 on my personal chart. |

I don't know if this occurs more in the US than in the UK. Stateside, I remember Hot Chelle Rae, The Wanted, and Capital Cities becoming hits after being featured on the NOW! Next section of the US albums.

Both D:Ream's 'U R The Best Thing' and Juliet Roberts' 'Caught In The Middle' appeared on Now 25 and Now 28 - both first charted in 1993, both were remixed and charted a lot higher in 1994.

It worked the other way too. I remember there were some tracks on earlier Now albums that hadn't yet been released and didn't end up being a hit at all. They were usually towards the end of one side though.

There's always one "Huh?" hit on every Now album - I wonder if it's because the compiler genuinely thought it was going to be a hit, or whether they were obliged to feature it as part of some bargaining deal, as in we'll only give you Wiley if you feature DJ Q & MC Bonez (Now 70!) too.
See also 'Don't Give It Up' by the Sonic Surfers on Now 28 and 'Popped' by Fool Boona on Now 42, along with two flop Tina Cousins tracks. |

A few haven't charted, due to being pulled from release presumably, Coldplay's God Put A Smile On Your Face and Justin Timberlake's I'm Lovin' It spring to mind.

Space Cowboy - 'I Would Die For You' was disqualified from charting, but appeared on Now 52. Shame really as that was shaping up to be a missive hit

I've read that "Don't Panic" by Coldplay on Now 48 was the lowest charting song to ever appear on a Now album. I don't know if the single was officially released, or just charted on import sales, but I think it charted somewhere in the 100s.

The lowest charting (as in reached the Top 75) are:
#74 The Verve "Sonnet" (NOW 40) #70 Music Relief "What's Going On?" (NOW 29) #69 Wendy & Lisa "Waterfall" (NOW 16) #69 Lena Fiagbe "You Come From Earth" (NOW 25) #67 The Feeling "Turn It Up" (NOW 70) I think the Verve single was either disqualified or just selling on import and pulled from general release, the others were genuine flops. |

'Sonnet' only charted on import sales. It did get released here but only as part of a limited edition set of 12-inch vinyl, which wasn't allowed to chart.
Reading that though made me feel sorry for The Feeling again, massive through 2006 and getting a top 10 single in early 2008 only to completely fall out of favour within months. The end of the indie era saw a lot of bands of their style disappear though, so I suppose their days were numbered anyway. |
