Welcome to the 2014 Indie/Alt Song of the Year Results.
So what will be crowned the #1 track this year? Will it be Lana Del Rey again or will FKA Twigs or Lorde snatch the #1 spot. Or will Coldplay dominate the proceedings? |

So 23 sets of votes were counted and here we have the first batch of songs.
This year every song got some points which hasn't happened for the last two rates. 111 Angel Olsen - Windows 39 111 James Yorkston - Guy Fawkes' Signature 39 113 A Winged Victory For The Sullen - Atomos II 38 114 You Me At Six - Cold Night 31 115 Imogen Heap - Run Time 29 116 Gerard Way - Action Cat 22 117 Tori Amos - Oysters 17 118 Wild Cub - Thunder Clatter 7 Some bigger names here who in past years would have reached much higher. All of these only received a single set of points so obviously did not catch the voters attention. |

101 Hundred Waters - Murmurs 60
102 Mogwai - The Lord is Out of Control 58 103 Glass Animals - Hazey 57 104 Neneh Cherry ft. Robyn - Out Of The Black 56 105 Fickle Friends - SWIM 55 105 Tokyo Police Club - Argentina (Parts 1, 2, 3) 55 107 Joan As Police Woman - Holy City 54 108 Seinabo Sey - Pistols at Dawn 48 109 X Ambassadors - Jungle 43 110 Esben & The Witch - No Dog 40 So coming up just short of the top 100. I thought/hoped Seinabo Sey would get higher than this as it was glorious. Other bigger names here include Neneh Cherry with what was a superb track as well as Mogwai and Joan As Police Woman. |

This'll be interesting. 3 of the 5 tracks I nominated failed to make the top 100 - but, then, I think a grand total of zero people have ever commented on one of the posts I've started in the indie pop section

91 Damon Albarn - Selfish Giant 78
92 Pixies - Blue Eyed Hexe 76 93 Korallreven - Death Is Not For Us 74 94 The 1975 - Robbers 73 94 Maximo Park - Midnight On The Hill 73 96 Catfish & The Bottlemen - Kathleen 72 97 Burial - Lambeth 71 98 Gaslight Anthem - Rollin' And Tumblin' 68 99 Oscar and the Wolf - Princes 66 100 TALA - The Duchess 63 Some more big names here. Some board favourites here that have failed to set the rate alight such as The 1975 and Burial. Korallreven did have a track in the 2012 rate reaching the top 70. Meanwhile Pixies and Damon Albarn may have been seen to have fallen short somewhat. Also out is the first of 3 TALA tracks which have generated a fair few comments here. |

Sad to see Catfish out so soon but glad Buzzjack has decided that Cocoon > Kathleen

71 Queens of the Stone Age - Smooth Sailing 109
72 Wolf Alice - Storms 106 73 Manic Street Preachers - Europa Geht Durch Mich 104 74 Interpol - My Desire 103 75 The War On Drugs - Under The Pressure 98 76 Holly Herndon - Chorus 97 77 iamamiwhoami - hunting for pearls 96 77 TV on the Radio - Happy Idiot 96 79 The Antlers - Palace 94 79 SZA ft. Isaiah Rashad - Warm Winds 94 A lot of my personal favourites go out here. Love Wolf Alice and if they release their debut album this year then maybe they'll go higher in the 2015 rate. The second iamami... track also leaves us here as does the first War on Drugs track from the universally acclaimed (except here!) Lost In The Dream. |

4/5 of mine now out outside the top 80 with King Creosote surprisingly picking up a few votes. Just Perfume Genius to go now (which I put in on purpose as I knew it had some fans on BJ)

61 Metronomy - Love Letters 125
62 Eagulls - Nerve Endings 124 63 Jagwar Ma - Uncertainty (MssingNo Remix) 120 64 Bastille - Oblivion 118 64 Twin Atlantic - Heart & Soul 118 66 Lana Del Rey - Big Eyes 117 67 Gazelle Twin - Belly of the Beast 112 67 Klaxons - There Is No Other Time 112 67 St Vincent - Prince Johnny 112 70 How To Dress Well - Words I Don't Remember 110 The next Lana track tumbles out without making the Top 60 maybe due to it being released so late in the year(?) Will she make the Top 10 this year at all? Other well regarded bads going out here include Bastille and the rather average Klaxons track. One comeback last year that didn't set the world alight. The first of 2 tracks from the rather wonderful St Vincent album also makes an appearance. |

51 Alt J - Every Other Freckle 143
51 Royal Blood - Ten Tonne Skeleton 143 53 Foo Fighters - Something From Nothing 137 53 Lĺpsley - Station 137 55 Banks - Drowning 136 55 George Ezra - Listen To The Man 136 57 Tune-Yards - Water Fountain 132 58 Future Islands - Seasons 130 59 Jamie xx - All Under One Roof Raving 127 60 Banks - Brain 126 A collection of really disparate tracks with fair to middling support both here and on the forum. Foo Fighters bow out as does the first of the Royal Blood tracks. " Banks tracks peak just outside the Top 50 as does the first of the Alt-J tracks. The Banks tracks probably split their vote a bit what with another one to come. |

41 Warpaint - Love Is To Die 164
42 American Authors - Best Day Of My Life 161 43 La Roux - Kiss and Not Tell 158 44 CHVRCHES - We Sink 156 45 The Black Keys - Fever 153 46 The War On Drugs - Red Eyes 149 47 Billon - Special (Danny L Harle Remix) 146 47 CHVRCHES - Dead Air 146 49 Ben Khan - Youth 145 50 Liars - Mess On a Mission 144 Perhaps the biggest surprise here is both CHVRCHES tracks finish just outside the top 40. |

Was I the one who voted for Wild Cub? I forget but I really like that song regardless so ouch at it finishing dead last!
Burial is far too low but then I didn't expect much from an ancient unreleased track that barely got any attention. Definitely expected 'Every Other Freckle' to be much higher than 51st though! |

Warpaint beating American Authors (barely) is a nice surprise.

I thought American Authors would completely bomb out here, not be that close to the top 40 Doesn't strike me as something indie fans here would love! I'm in the minority that loves it though, so nice to see it do well.
