Portugal
Leonor Andrade - Há Um Mar Que Nos Separa

RTP have confirmed on their website that Festival da Canção will be used as the Portuguese selection process again for Eurovision this year, and have reportedly approached 12 composers to compete in the selection to be held in March.

I guess there's no chance of Catarina appearing again after the "controversy" around Suzy's win last year, and will Rui Andrade finally give up now he's been on the Eurovision stage with the Tolmachevy Sisters?

QUOTE
RTP have today revealed more information regarding their national final “Festival da Canção” which is set to take place in March.

12 composers have been invited to submit 12 songs to the selection which will be divided into two semi finals. The two songs with the highest number of votes by televoters will proceed into the grand final. A third song from each semi final will be selected solely by a jury to also compete in the final.

In the final, the six competing finalists will be narrowed down to three using the same formula as in the semi finals, with the top two songs by televoters proceeding to the Super Final. The third will be selected by a jury. In the Super Final, the winner will be chosen by 100% televoting.

It is also reported that for the first time in years, ‘Festival da Canção’ will include a live band as opposed to previous years where the songs were accompanied by a backing track.

Song: ‘Outra Vez Primavera’ – Singer: Yola Dinis
Song: ‘Lisboa, Lisboa’ – Singer: Rita Seidi
Song: ‘Há Um Mar Que Nos Separa’ – Singer: Leonor Andrade
Song: ‘A Noite Inteira’ – Singer: Filipa Batista
Song: ‘Tu Tens Uma Mágica’ – Gonçalo Tavares
Song: ‘Quando A Lua Voltar A Passar’ – Rubi Machado

Not sure how to react to this but Diana Piedade is a very strong vocalist.
Adelaide Ferreira, who represented Portugal in 1985 is back as is 1965 and 1969 entrant Simone de Oliveira, which is the equivalent of Lys Assia taking part in the Swiss pre-selection. ohmy.gif

From the artists and songwriters involved sounds VERY unlikely.

It all comes across as a snoozefest to me. mellow.gif

Well if you're wondering, Portugal had their first semifinal last night.

Here's some songs.

ELIMINATED:
Rita Seidi - Lisboa, Lisboa
key lyric: (Lisbon, Lisbon, Lisbon, Lisbon, Lisbon, Lisbon... hmmm if you were not mine I would steal you from a foam postcard)

Filipa Baptista - A Noite Inteira
key lyric: (it's time to change, I will be the first one. I gave all I could give, I will dance all night long)

Adelaide Ferreira - Paz
key lyric: (please come and save me from falling into the abyss of this pain, my love)

FINALISTS:
Leonor Andrade - Há um mar que nos separa
key lyric: (if there's a sea that keeps us apart I will dry it with longing)

Yola Dinis - Outra Vez Primavera
key lyric: (today we are the world, for letting loose our voices)

Gonçalo Tavares - Tu Tens uma Mágica
key lyric: (you have metal claws which is fundamental to reach the Sun)

If you ask me the right ones have qualified as most songs were just embarrassing. Even Filipa Baptista's uptempo discotittery. That Gonçalo guy qualify with an appalling number but he got voted through by the jury so it's no menace for the win.

No hope for Portugal so far.

LOVE Outra Vez Primavera! Best shot out of the three by far, although it's not quite Senhora Do Mar.

Gonçalo é tão bicha, bless him.

He doesn't quite seem to know how he's coming across on stage. Plus, those lyrics are so so ridiculous.

The performance videos got removed from YT but you can watch the whole Semi-Final if you're bored and have time to lose:

I nearly said a much more offensive word there laugh.gif They are, I thought you were joking but I just looked it up blink.gif Semi-excited for the second semi tonight, although it does clash with Germany and I don't think there'll be much better than Yola wub.gif

Just checked semi 2 and by god what a terrible collection of songs.
The lack of music education in Portugal is SO evident it hurts my bones.

The only song I liked was "Dança Joana" which had a decent production even if it sounded like a Bruno Mars b-side from 5 years ago. It still wouldn't do anything in Vienna.
I can't understand how everyone is raving about Simone's song. It's such a non-event of a non-song, I can't wrap my head around it.

It's really Yola's to lose, thankfully, and if not then I hope Leonor gets there.

What I've read of the semi-finals hasn't been positive at all, I hope there's one good song amongst them when I tune in tonight!

Portugal · Final
7th March 2015

Watch the selection on the official RTP website!

9.25pm UK & Portugal Time / 10.25pm Central European Time
(Programme scheduled to last 2 hours 20 minutes)

Running Order
Click ► to listen to the songs!

TBA | Gonçalo Tavares - Tu Tens uma Mágica
TBA | José Freitas - Mal Menor
TBA | Leonor Andrade - Há um Mar que nos Separa
TBA | Simone de Oliveira - À Espera das Canções
TBA | Teresa Radamanto - Um Fado em Viena
TBA | Yola Dinis - Outra Vez Primavera

Voting
The first round of voting will decide three superfinalists, two songs with the highest televote and one song with the highest jury vote (that hasn't yet qualified via the televote). Then, in the superfinal, 100% televoting will decide the ultimate winner!

Who are the favourites?
There isn't any odds available, but Simone of course has a lot of hype around her after her participation in Eurovision back in the 1960s! I've read some positivity for Yola as well so maybe she is amongst the favourites.

Don't bother tuning in, Yola Dinis' has the best song and it's a Fado. The rest isn't really up to much but if you have time check Leonor's song as well.
Simone's just wailing and she's got massive hype because she is THE Simone de Oliveira and she's back competing. Also, apparently she mentioned if she won she would give the ticket to Vienna to someone else. Germany setting trends...

It really is Yola's to lose though and I'd be surprised if she didn't close the running order tonight.

Leonor has won!

I haven't heard it yet, but it sounded the best of the 3 superfinalists in the recap I just saw. She should be reprising it in a moment, so I'll listen to it for the first time in a minute! biggrin.gif

Studio version here:

It's very nice, and seems like it was the best of a bad bunch (although I haven't heard the much hyped Yola). I can't see it qualifying though.

Eh, another dreary midtempo to add to the mix. After hearing the UK song it feels really flat and unmemorable.

Can't believe Yola didn't reach the Superfinal.
Can't even figure out why RTP dumped her on the second slot after all the hype and in studio cheers she had. The best bet they had to reach the final.
Leonor was my second favourite but the song desperately needs a revamp and those extra special English lyrics that they won't bother giving it.
Right now it sounds like an Albanian entry from 7 years ago before its revamp.
Will they ever learn?

[the composers voting that Gonçalo into the superfinal though, what?]

This is very much a grower, very gorgeous. Not that it'll do anything mind, but it's such a pretty entry. I prefer it to 'Quero Ser Tua', I never was a fan of that.

I wasn't a fan of QST but then Copenhagen happened and it just came to life and suddenly it all made sense and now it's such an euroclassic. wub.gif
