Taken (2008)

Synopsis
The film focuses on a retired CIA agent who travels across Europe whose daughter wishes to travel to Paris with a friend, but he is reluctant to let her go in order to keep him safe. He eventually lets her go and when he finds out she and her friend has been kidnapped, he relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter. It is also the origin of the meme starring Neeson himself which has been used many times in different contexts for the purpose of humour.

Personal Review
Rating:
Watch Again? Yes
First Time Watching? No
Recommend to Whom? Anyone who likes suspense and action/thrillers

The film stars Liam Neeson in one of his most recognisable films who also played the role of Qui-Gon Jinn in the Star Wars trilogy, and I must say he really does fit the role of acting in this movie. His dedication to find his daughter is so admirable and there is not a dull moment in the entire film. Full of emotion and suspense, this movie is a 5 star classic cool.gif

Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars hactually (not that it matters as he's a truly awful actor and the Taken films are also awful).

Time for my unpopular opinion on the taken franchise:
I hated the first one- far too violent, quite boring and so disappointing 3/10
However I adore the 2nd one and the 3rd one was very good also

No problem, it's not the sort of film for everyone and I wasn't expecting you to be into it tbh (no stereotype tongue.gif)
I might watch the other two some time soon smile.gif

Frozen (2013)

I've actually been meaning to watch this for a while now and only just watched it last night. It was better than I had expected actually. I enjoyed the storyline, it had some great characters and had some funny moments too. I still think it is a bit overrated though, what with all the school bags, posters etc. but still an enjoyable film biggrin.gif

Let It Go of course, but my second favourite is probably Love Is An Open Door. If you want to know, LIG has entered my top 60 hypothetically (even though I only post a top 40 with an extended 41-45 section this is only an estimate teresa.gif)

The first 'Taken' film is legitimately brilliant. It's EXACTLY what I want from a film like that. The 2nd one was absolutely DREADFUL, so much so that (+ the terrible reviews it received) put me off from watching the 3rd one. AWFUL.

'Frozen' is fantastic! 'Do You Want To Build A Snowman?' is so beautiful! cry.gif

So the 2nd is that different then? If you lived the first and hater the second, and UV hated the first and loved the second, I guess I wouldn't be that struck on 2 either? thinking.gif

Anyway, I plan to watch The Fault In Our Stars tonight since I got too caught up in plug.dj last night tongue.gif

'Taken 2' was a 12A (not seen the DVD so I don't know if they have a 15 rated version - but the plot was so paper thin and generic that we can't blame the certificate too much)! The first 'Taken' was/is an 18 on DVD, which is the one I saw. Maybe you should give number 2 a go and make your own opinion on it?

The Fault In Our Stars (2014)

Synopsis
Hazel and Augustus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that Hazel's other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they meet and fall in love at a cancer support group.

Another recent film everyone's been talking about I had been meaning to watch. And I have to say, it was amazing! I enjoyed every minute of it, there were some sad moments in it as well as funny ones and I almost cried a couple of times. Great characters and inspirational quotes all the way. One of the best movies I've seen for a while. 10/10 biggrin.gif

Recommend to Whom? Anyone who likes a happy film and likes an adventure!

I had trouble watching Divergent last night, so instead I decided to watch this film, similar in some ways to TFIOS. Morgan Freeman played his part well, there were lots of happy parts to it and the film was overall emotionally pleasing, apart from his death at the end sad.gif very inspirational to people who consider doing amazing things in their life before they die smile.gif

Divergent (2014)

They must undergo extreme physical and intense psychological tests, that transform them all. But Tris has a secret that she is Divergent, which means she doesn't fit into any one group. If anyone knew, it would mean a certain death. As she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly peaceful society, this secret might help her save the people she loves... or it might destroy her.

I thought I had not seen this but I recognised that I had after the start of it. The plot was very good with some great acting and I did not know that two of the main characters were also Hazel and Gus from TFIOS! ohmy.gif (coincidence? thinking.gif)
I certainly wouldn't want to live in that future! ohmy.gif
Will look forward to seeing the new insurgent when it comes out happy.gif

Taken 2 (2012)

Synopsis

The retired CIA agent Bryan Mills invites his teenage daughter Kim and his ex-wife Lenore, who has separated from her second husband, to spend a couple of days in Istanbul where he is working. Meanwhile, the patriarch of the community of the Albanian gang of human trafficking, Murad Krasniqi, seeks revenge for the death of his son and organizes another gang to kidnap Bryan and his family. Bryan and Lenore are abducted by the Albanians, but Kim escapes and is the only hope that Bryan has to escape and save Lenore.

Recommend to Whom? Pretty much anyone who enjoyed the first one tongue.gif

After watching the first one and getting recommendations to watch the second, I decided I would watch it. It had a similar plot to the first, except it was about revenge for the murders of the original kidnappers in the first movie. I liked how this movie involved more of his ex-wife Lenore and daughter Kim rather than just Bryan (the main character) chasing after the kidnappers. Not as much suspense and action as the first but still a very good watch smile.gif

I decided to watch this because my plan to watch Interstellar was dashed as it was nearly 3 hours long drama.gif so in the short time I had I watched this instead. I knew it starred Seth MacFarlane who does the voice of Brian in Family Guy and Ted so I thought it promising, but after watching a little over half an hour I got a little bored of it. I was hoping it would have an actual plot by that time so I gave up laugh.gif a few jokes now and then but overall a little dissapointing nocheer.gif
