As we head to the polls on Thursday, this is a list of #1s on election day:

2010 - Roll Deep - "Good Times"
2005 - Tony Christie ft Peter Kay - "Is This The Way to Amirilo"
2001 - Shaggy ft Rayvon - "Angel"
1997 - Michael Jackson - "Blood On The Dancefloor"
1992 - Shakespears Sister - "Stay"
1987 - Whitney Houston - "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"
1983 - The Police - "Every Breath You Take"
1979 - Art Garfunkel - "Bright Eyes" (Not a love song for Maggie lol)
1974 oct - John Denver - "Annie's Song"
1974 feb - Suzi Quatro - "Devil Gate Drive"
1970 - Mungo Jerry - "In The Summertime"
1966 - Walker Brothers - "The Sun Aint Gonna Shine Anymore"
1964 - Roy Orbison - "Pretty Woman"
1959 - Craig Douglas - "Only Sixteen"
1955 - Tony Bennett - "Stranger In Paradise"

Not really a vintage list I may add. The Jacko song could be a metaphor for the Tories heavy deafeat that year. I remember another landslide on the 3rd of May, the UK's last Eurovision win with Katrina and the Waves.

That's not a bad list, really. I'm sure there are plenty of events which would produce far worse lists.

It's laughable a song called 'Good Times' was Number 1 when David Cameron was elected to run the UK. I'm sure for many it's been quite the opposite! laugh.gif

Perhaps Roll Deep should re-record it as "Bad Times" and all what they intend to do be the failures of the coalition?

If you look at it, all of them in one way are inappropriate/appropriate to the result.

I do agree about "Stay" - then again the dark video seems to fit the Tories. "Bright Eyes" a song about death, could (whatever you side are on) be a preminition of life under the Tories with the death of the industries in this country under Maggie's reign of terror.

"Angel" and "Amarillo" - well a lot of people were better off under Labour and sums up the mood of the people at the time, rather upbeat. "Every Breath You Take" the Iron Bitch's threat to people.

See You Again would be a fairly appropriate welcome back if Labour are back in government next week ;o (you could pretty much put a political twist on all of these song titles lol)

Reading this thread has reminded me that Roll Deep had not one but TWO #1's in 2010! How times have changed since then, they are on hiatus at the moment and only God knows what the rest of them apart from Wiley are up to now.
