One of the many benefits of being an uncle for me now, this biggrin.gif The Clangers have a new series - animated by the son of one of its former creators, Oliver Postgate (he died in 2008) and narrated by Michael Palin starting on CBeebies on Monday next week.

I remember watching the reruns of it on Channel 4 after Sesame Street in the 90s. How refreshing, with so many awful remakes of old classics of late that we finally have one that, on the basis of the preview above, stays faithful to the original whilst making it a bit more up to date. My nephew who's two can't wait to see it.

More in depth article about the new series here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/artic...e-new-show.html

First episode is on iPlayer now. Just wonderful! Nephew loved it as well and was wandering around whistling for a good hour afterwards!

Fantastic rework of this. Still got some of the original in it.

Aww! I rather enjoyed the one yesterday, particularly Michael's closing line, which was something along the lines of 'Small Clanger is glad he got the little thing back with the big thing. It doesn't matter what the big thing was, but it is complete again, and that's all that matters.' Something quite poetic about that. Hopefully it's a marked sea change in kid's TV!

That was a rather sweet ending. It had a definite Oliver Postgate feel about it,

Has been topping the ratings on CBeebies for the last two weeks now, one episode clocked in nearly a million viewers...and a new line of Clangers toys and collectable figurines are going on sale soon.

The fact this is the show I'm most excited about of late and I'm not even the target audience...well. It's a very special thing, let's put it that way.

cheer.gif I get the impression that the show has attracted viewers well beyond its target audience. What a wonderful revival biggrin.gif

1st run of 26 episodes finished on Monday - the second run of 26 will begin in the new year. DVD of the first 12 episodes is out in October!

It's so pleasing to see such a faithful remake has done so well, my nephew particularly loved the 'Eggbot' episode. The new Dangermouse which starts in September on the other hand looks absolutely horrific!

Series 3 starts this Saturday, 20th July. The first episode will feature a guest star appearance from Maggie Aderin-Pocock, space scientist and host of 'The Sky At Night' as an astronaut in an episode to mark 50 years since both the debut of the original series and man landing on the moon!

That first new episode was wonderful. Definitely the most charming tribute to the moon landings.

Oh wasn't it just? I loved the little touches/Easter eggs as well like the Bagpuss keyring and the Blue Peter badge!
