Hello Noah
I am in love with DBSHYS, it is so joyous and uplifting (something Rachel Platten should take notes from with her dreary empowerment song ), her voice is actually so heavenly too, I can't get enough when she belts it during the middle 8 and final chorus. So glad to have CHVRCHES back, Leave a Trace is definitely stronger so glad they've decided to push that first, nothing is hitting the mark of The Mother We Share or even Gun yet though. Calvin really picked the perfect time for a non-album single, I'm a massive fan of his formula but one single with a complete different sound but still an utter jam is such a good decision, quite sad to see it didn't find a slot to sneak a week at #1 though as it's clearly very popular. So pleased Rita has delivered us an R&B jam, yes it's still a little poppy but it's still so sultry and the video really backs that up, everything Chris is on at the moment is so good too so props to him. Shame OA/OS this time hasn't really worked for her, excited for the album now though, she's always been consistent for me so I'm excited to see what else she has to offer, hopefully a good mixture of pop and r&B. Trip Switch is so good, I'd probably have given you 18 points if you'd sent that to BJSC It's just thrilling from start to finish, like the chorus literally gets your heart beating, I predict the album is not going to disappoint, they just keep getting better. Shame High By the Beach just isn't taking off, I'll be devastated if she misses #1, Rudimental must have loads of pre-orders by now and they've had more singles success too. I really loved Ultraviolence as an album so it's really sad to see her reputation go down, I actually preferred it to BTD. Do It Again is like an Ariana song but better than anything she's ever done, I know everyone loves Problem but for me this is what Problem should be, it has a way stronger chorus for me and no weird forced whispering or anything, really sad that this probably won't make the top 10 officially because R1 are just too late and it doesn't have great streaming anyway Fab chart! |

Chris Brown & Tyga | Do It Again 50 | 31 | Erik Hassle | No Words [01-04-22-31-50] Nice chart and a great month for overlap, 14 songs! Hi there, I see that throwing some sort of ~shade~ at my chart is becoming a habit of yours now ...and everyone thinks you're such a nice guy. (jk) Indeed, 'Save My Soul' is just :cheeseblock: all over! When that chorus hits, oh my *.*.*.*.*.* Hmm, I'd thought 'Graveyard Whistling' was a single last year as the title track of the band's EP, but after some quick research it seems it only made the 'BBC Introducing' list and wasn't pushed in the same way as their later singles...so to (sort of) answer your question, I don't know why it was 'snubbed' in that way . I feel like it'd still flop if it was made a proper single now though . Remains my favourite track of theirs overall anyway~ 'Black Magic' is really only climbing due to me being impressed by some US promo performances actually! I still wouldn't choose to listen to it much but the song translates fantastically well live, and it's been great to see Little Mix making a bit of an impact with it stateside. That's great but I don't care what Ryan thinks of me cos I'm gonna love myself, no, I don't need anybody else (HEY). Gonna love myself, no, I don't need anybody else (I LOVE MAY). Can't help myself, no, I don't need anybody else, anytime, day or night tbh. I LOVE MAY. I really like 'Cheyenne' but just haven't been listening to it much lately. It'll probably climb a bit when/if (worry) it gets a good push over here. I still think it's perfectly suited to him and doesn't feel in any way faceless to me, which is extremely rare for a Derulobop . The video is also one of his best - would recommend if you haven't seen it. Haha, not us subtly and inadvertently taking sides in the Disney-child-star-turned-popstar stan wars . Demi's waaaaay more talented vocally tbf but hasn't been serving the jams like Selena has for me . 'Cool For The Summer' is pretty good though and I'm reading great things about the new single so looking forward to checking that out. Oop 14 sounds quite low but nice that it's an improvement at least! Cheers Jordan. Shawn Mendes! Indeed! 'Stitches' is a tune and he has a lovely voice. Will almost certainly climb next month too so YAY. Chris Brown & Tyga | Do It Again Excellent chart! Hi Mango! That's interesting re: Jess. From what I've seen, it's more that people like/love certain songs of hers, rather than loving Jess as an artist and everything she puts her name to...but then her album sales would seem to disprove that so maybe I'm wrong there! I find her very hit and miss anyway, 'Don't Be So Hard On Yourself' currently challenging 'Rather Be' as the best thing she's done. <3 Yep, 'Eyes Shut' is the next single! Seems like the perfect choice to me - strong melody, accessible, change of pace from the previous singles, lends itself perfectly to the colder months...not to mention it's one of my favourite tracks on a very strong album. Ah, I love seeing Nothing But Thieves in other charts as well! This is among their better tracks for me and I'm very much agreed about the chorus. I find their songs tend to have a nicely casual delivery of gentle vocals in the verses followed by a properly anthemic refrain , and 'Trip Switch' is one of the best examples of that. I'd agree with you about 'Drag Me Down'. Solid song but not a standout in their discography. Indeed, I'm looking forward to 'Cheyenne' (hopefully ) making a big impact here soon as it's so much better than some of his past hits. Yeah, it's a shame in a way that Lana is looking less and less likely to ever have a big hit single again, but it's also clear that she's built a very strong fanbase and has a significant amount of casual interest in her, so once she keeps delivering the goods, her albums should always do pretty decently. I'd imagine she's a lot happier with the level of prominence she has now as well, if it means she has more creative control. /ramble ('High By The Beach' is wonderful and has been growing majorly on me)! Thanks for the comments! |

Hello Noah I am in love with DBSHYS, it is so joyous and uplifting (something Rachel Platten should take notes from with her dreary empowerment song ), her voice is actually so heavenly too, I can't get enough when she belts it during the middle 8 and final chorus. Hello Josh My thoughts exactly! The whole thing gets the empowerment message across effortlessly. And yeah, her voice has always been great but for whatever reason sounds especially awesome in the song and seems really suited to the sort of rushed phrasing throughout it. I don't know why but I really love her unusual intonation when she sings the title/start of the chorus. I'd agree that 'Leave A Trace' wouldn't quite be up there with their best but it's definitely solid and has been subtly growing a lot on me lately, so it's too early to say for sure. 'The Mother We Share' was so instant though and hasn't lost its appeal at all so I don't imagine it'll be overtaken easily (and I love 'Gun' too). I've actually been quite impressed over the years with how Calvin regularly switches things up and hasn't overly relied on his winning formula, but yeah I don't think I'd have guessed 'How Deep Is Your Love' is a Calvin production. That said, it's characteristically bold and infectious despite the experimentation. A week at #1 would've been great as it's one of his best for me, and that's saying something. Interesting that you think of Rita as consistent because I think of her as anything but . I don't know, she's had some good songs but they always seem so faceless to me and very loosely connected to each other artistically. 'Body On Me' feels really suited to her though, more so than her big hits. She really shines on it and Chris' contribution is typically great too. Ah wow, that's high praise! I think if I'd heard 'Trip Switch' at the same time as 'Graveyard Whistling' I'd have had a hard time deciding which to enter BJSC as I love both...but actually the former sounds a little more accessible so maybe that would have swung it. Ajanbuanda would've happened so much sooner in that case gah . An album would indeed be amazing! The frontman's vocals are outstanding in any style of song from what I've heard. Oh I'm hoping Lana nabs the #1 album too, if only to keep up the streak, but yeah she's seemingly got a lot of stiff competition. Wow, rare to hear of someone preferring 'Ultraviolence' to its predecessor ! I think it gets a bit unfairly criticised as well because it's a very cohesive piece of work, but I guess it's not surprising given the very high standards set by 'Born To Die'. Ooh that's interesting as I wouldn't think of 'Do It Again' as being like an Ariana song, and I'd have to disagree about it being better than her stuff as I adore the post-album singles of 'My Everything' in particular. I actually find Pia's vocals sort of uncontrolled/seemingly out of tune in most of the song though, and now thinking about it, I guess her tone isn't far off Ariana's . The chorus is easily the best part of the song for sure, and yeah an official top 10 would be much deserved. Thaaaaanksssss! Hi Just wanted to give a big YASSSS to Sharpness <3 it's nice to have Jamie back. A delicate little track but still carries a nice groove, his vocals sound great as usual too Come And Get It still in the Top 10 Hi Seven Absolutely. I've been looking forward to his second album for years now and if 'Sharpness' (btw I really like your description of it ) is any indication, he hasn't deviated too much from the sound and style that made his debut so amazing, so it's all pretty excitinggggggg. Indeed, though I think I must have been overplaying it as it's currently not very high in my affections and will most likely plummet in the next chart OOPS. Thanks! A thoroughly enjoyable ramble Ahaha I'm glad you appreciated it as I realised afterwards that some of what I said had very little relation to your comment . Cheers! Chris Brown & Tyga | Do It Again Pia's parts on this are so good I hate Chris's vocals on this but I like the song Hi UV! Yeah 'When Love Hurts' is good but it's really all about 'Save My Soul' for me. Would imagine you'd like it too if you're interested. Well in contrast, 'How Deep Is Your Love' will take a while to get old for me but I'm tiring of 'She's Kinda Hot' ! Surprised the latter never quite caught on with the public though - very catchy track that deserves a better peak/run. Excited for CHVRCHES' album as well! And what's more, I still need to hear the most recent track from it, which I see is picking up rave reviews in the album thread . All bodes very well~ Ooh, for me it'd go 'I Will Never Let You Down' > 'Body On Me' >>>>>>>>>>>> 'Poison'. Indeed, 'Run Away With Me' is pretty much perfectly executed pop, and 'Love Myself' and 'Black Magic' come close too. Would love an official top 40 placing for Carly but it's not looking likely. :/ 'Shower' - need to revisit that! 'Break A Sweat' isn't up there with it but definitely another enjoyable bop so would recommend. I think I've heard a few other Shawn Mendes songs and was generally impressed but can't remember any in particular . 'Stitches' wouldn't usually be my thing but it's fantastic. Ah, interesting that you bought the Sia album at this stage. I will get around to listening to it someday as I've liked/loved all the singles. I hadn't thought of it but I agree with you on 'What Kind Of Man' being the best thing from the era, and I find the album pretty strong overall. The song and its video are just so captivating. <3 Still too early for me to compare 'High By The Beach' to Lana's other leads but I'm certainly liking it at the moment. Haha, I think I tend to be very tolerant of Chris Brown songs/features in general compared to the average Buzzjacker and really like his contribution to 'Do It Again'! Actually, it's some of Pia's vocals that I find a bit dodgy/odd. Thanks for all the comments! |
