'Salute' extremely low considering how successful it was! ohmy.gif The BGT performance helped, but only for a few days/a week at least!

It's crazy Salute is so low, it's one of their most memorable songs now, I think it's even more of a go-to than 'Wings' these days for the general public. Radio 1 took it off the playlist the week before the BGT, though which was silly, and they never played it since (apart from on the chart), despite it being such a big hit!

Without BGT the song's chart performance would have probably been something like this; 35-40-24-39-OUT, but it's BGT boost picked it up loads of commercial airplay and instead it went 35-40-24-6-14-24-33-OUT, so it's a shame R1 didn't play it for a bit longer, as it would have even better longevity!

For Ref.
1. Wings - 250 plays (A)
(C-B-A-A-A-A-A-A) - (8)
2. Black Magic - 211 plays (A) *
(C-B-A-A-A-A-A-A) (8)
3. DNA - 200 plays (A)
(C-B-B-A-A-A) (6)
4. Move - 163 plays (A)
(C-C-B-A-A-A) (6)
5. Change Your Life - 133 plays (A)
(C-B-A-A-A-A) (6)
6. How Ya Doin' (feat. Missy Elliott) - 121 plays (A)
(C-B-A-A-A) (5)
7. Love Me Like You - 105 plays (A) *
(C-B-A-A-A-A-A) (7)
8. Word Up! - 81 plays (B)
(C-C-B-B-B) (5)
9. Little Me - 73 plays (B)

If anyone can help me with their exact runs on the playlist, that would be fantastic.

I compiled this list a while back, but I've updated it with era 3's singles now.

Wings = (C-B-A-A-A-A-A-A)
DNA = (C-B-B-A-A-A)
CYL = (C-B-A-A-A-A)
HYD = (C-B-A-A-A)
Move = (C-C-B-A-A-A)
Little Me = (C-B-B*-B)
Word Up = (C-C-B-B-B)
Salute = (C-B-B-B)
Black Magic = (C-B-A-A-A-A-A-A)
LMLY = (C-B-A-A-A-A-A-
*playlist was frozen for a week

So good to see BM matching Wing's mammoth run on the playlist. I imagine LMLY will be removed next week, but 5 weeks A-list is still amazing. Poor Salute. sad.gif R1's lack of support for their second era in general still pisses me off - I mean only 3 weeks A-list for Move? Got to say, I'm relieved that they're fully back on board this time around.

Thanks for this, I'll edit the top post with that info.

It'd be great if LMLY gets one more week, as it takes the airplay right up to the RV performance, but it'll almost certainly get dropped on Wednesday - either way, it's fantastic it's been supported so much - if only Capital was playing it a bit more.

I'm really shocked at how little Salute was supported. That song surely should have been poised to be the group's worldwide smash. I remember hearing it a couple of times on radio when Black Magic was taking off as well.

I still hear it on Kiss all the time! One of their biggest hits for sure - I'm sure it does well with trickle sales.

I'd imagine 'Salute' is one of their best trickle sellers, probably after 'Wings' and 'Move'. 'Black Magic' will obviously be their biggest trickle seller in the next year or so.

I'd say it probably gets more trickle sales than Wings now. I feel as though Wings is less remembered despite being such a big seller.

I wish we could get a sales figure from the OCC or Music Week for Salute (single), should be around 220k now? Its trickle sales speaks volumes for its wasted potential.

Whenever they perform somewhere, 'Salute' is usually the highest download out of their past eras.

Updated on main post.

Black Magic is very close to overtaking Wings as Radio 1's most supported song.

Love Me Like You gets very little support since being dropped from the playlist, but is now just about their 4th most supported.

Secret Love Song plays are still very low, which goes to show things are only just starting for this song. I predict 3/4 weeks on the A-list for this.

Big update:

- Black Magic has overtaken as the top played song by Radio 1, still gaining fairly regular plays, even throughout SLS's campaign
- Secret Love Song halts at under 100 plays, which is a very underwhelming run for song that managed to drum up so much momentum. Even on it's days on the A-list, plays were fairly minimal, and it hasn't been played once since leaving the playlist, unfortunately.

Such as shame about SLS. I really thought this would have longevity but with no radio support that's not going to happen.
I wonder what happened that made them decide to take it off so soon.

It is pretty odd (less plays than HYD and CYL is quite appalling), but the fact that they still give 'Black Magic' a few spins shows that they're still very much receptive to playing Little Mix. I wonder if it was just a case of SLS being a little too soppy for them? Little Mix aren't exactly known for their ballads. But then again, they recently hammered 'Army' which isn't a mile away in terms of sound, and that was much less commercially successful. Regardless of the reasoning, I really hope they're back on board fully if we get a 4th single.

It's really irritated me, as has probably hindered the song quite a bit, especially that first 'A list' week. It could have been the difference between #6 and #5. The soppy thing is my biggest guess, too. But realistically, it was obviously connecting and they've played other soppy songs like Marvin Gaye...

I've updated this.

Considering what a huge hit SLS song is, hitting 500k this week, I'm still annoyed at the lack of support this got. The fact How Ya Doin got more support is a bit... :\ I appreciate everything Black Magic has done for the girls, but I wish Radio 1 would give it a rest when it has eaten into SLS and Hair's support from them.
