Well Hello to you, it's been a while but I've been busy working on some things for y'all......
Anyway here's a new rundown for you! Top 100 records of the 2010's. It's an attempt to put some science (sales) into the concept of "Unlucky" records. So onto the sales bit to see how the rundown has been arrived at: Firstly each year is taken separately and the 52/53 weekly totals of the No 1 record are put in descending order according to sales. Next we look at all the weekly sales of the tracks that never made No 1 and see in how many weeks of that particular year it COULD have been No 1 based on its best weekly sale. So if the lowest weekly sales tallies for the No 1 record for the year 2010 were 41k, 43k, 44k, and 45k, and a song at some point in the year peaked at No 4 but sold 46k then it COULD have been No 1 in 4 weeks of that year (the weeks indicated). Hope that all makes sense. Now to make it even more interesting (and perhaps even more unlucky) we'll only look at the singles that never even peaked at No 2, yes just non top 2 singles that sold enough to make the weekly charts No 1 if only they'd been released in a different week. Once this is done I've ordered the songs firstly by the number of weeks in that year that the song could have topped the charts of that year, and then by the amount it sold! And finally I've ignored the final chart weeks of the year (Xmas week and the week after) as the "gift card" effect effectively distorts sales and isn't a normal chart week. Hopefully whatever I've not explained will become clear as we go along. So let's see just who can claim to be the unluckiest record of the decade so far! AS ALWAYS CAN WE PLEASE AVOID SPOILERS- IT JUST RUINS THE THREAD but you're participation is encouraged naturally on the tracks that come up- were they unlucky and should they have been No 1? |

There are actually 118 records that sold enough to top the charts for at least 1 week in their respective year so here's the one that didn't make the top 100 because of their sales......
THE WEEKND- Can't Feel My Face JAMES BLUNT- Bonfire Heart DAVID GUETTA FT EMELI SANDE- What I Did For Love BLONDE- All Cried Out NICOLE SCHERZINGER- Boomerang DEORRO & CHRIS BROWN- Five More Hours DEMI LOVATO- Heart Attack GALANTIS- Runaway (U & I) JESS GLYNNE- Take Me Home SIGMA FT ELLA HENDERSON- Glitterball DR KUCHO! & GREGOR SALTER FT ANE BRUN- Can't Stop Playing (Makes Me High) TAYLOR SWIFT FT KENDRICK LAMAR- Bad Blood SKRILLEX & DIPLO PRESENT JACK U FT JUSTIN BIEBER- Where Are U Now? WALK THE MOON- Shut Up & Dance COVER DRIVE- Sparks FLO RIDA FT SIA- Wild Ones THE WANTED- I Found You STOOSHE- Black Heart |

Notably high number of 2015 songs there. Especially liked the ones from Derrero & Chris Brown, Blonde, Dr. Kucho and The Weeknd... agree that 2015 was quite good for chart music really and certainly better than this year on the whole.
Remember 'Wild Ones' being everywhere too. |

I heavily doubt Sparks wouldn't have been a complete non-number one had it been released on the correct week. In which it would have beaten Good Feeling by only 200 copies.
Also Glitterball, as much as I would like to think it could have easily been a number one, only could have been number one had it been released on What Do You Mean?'s final week, at which point held-back releases were well on the way out. Bonfire Heart also only would have beat Somewhere Only We Know on its second week at number one, and by 18 copies. This post has been edited by Taylor Jago: Aug 31 2016, 08:09 AM |

99. T.H.E (THE HARDEST EVER)- Will.i.am Featuring Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger (53,977) #3
No 1 in 1 week in 2012 Premiered on the MTV awards in 2011 it gave Mick Jagger his first solo credit on a top 10 hit in 27 years, it was also one of the first instances of a held back release being subject to a cover charting whilst we waited for the original to be released, in this case King Of Pop’s version made No 40. |

98. DIBBY DIBBY SOUND- DJ Fresh Vs Jay Fay Featuring Ms Dynamite (60,537) #3
No 1 in 1 week in 2014 You’ll be hearing a few DJ Fresh tracks here, first up and starting this thread is his 2014 track which would have sneaked a week at the top if he had released in December instead of February. A marked return to the charts for Ms Dynamite whose career had been resurrected by Katy B three years earlier. |

DIBBY DIBBY DIBBY DIBBY DIBBY SOUND *.*
T.H.E is obviously godawful though (the only redeeming feature being the slightly hilarious Mick Jagger verse) |

Again, Dibby Dibby Sound DOES NOT sound like a number one - however I would have thought T.H.E was a number one. Two good songs to start off with.

Neither of those should have been #1s, and those sales don't look great either. Guess it'll be a while before we do come to the unlucky records.
'Dibby Dibby Sound' was #3 behind two songs you may have heard a lot of, Pharrell "Chart Saviour" Williams 'Happy' at #2 and Clean "Chart Saviours" Bandit 'Rather Be' at #1. 'T.H.E.' was similarly behind two massive songs, David Guetta 'Titanium' at #2 and Gotye 'Somebody That I Used To Know' at #1. |
