The line-up for this year’s Top of the Pops Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve hour-long specials have been announced.
Both shows will be hosted by Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates and will feature performances from some of the year’s biggest acts. Clean Bandit featuring Anne Marie, DNCE, Olly Murs, Skepta, Jonas Blue featuring Dakota, Zara Larsson, Calum Scott, Kungs, James Arthur, Craig David and Louisa Johnson will all perform on the Christmas Day show. Then, the New Year’s Day special will feature performances from Craig David, Dua Lipa, Alan Walker, Nathan Sykes, Anne Marie, Kideko & George Kwali featuring Nadia Rose and Sweetie Irie, Clean Bandit featuring Louisa Johnson, Zara Larsson, Jonas Blue featuring JP Cooper and Blossoms. "The festive Top of the Pops specials are such a wonderful tradition, and I’m so happy they’re back for another year,” said Cotton. “The line-up is as epic as ever, and the show’s promise to be a special watch.” Yates added: "Hosting the annual Top of The Pops Christmas and New Year’s Eve specials is one of the highlights of my year - it’s always a pleasure to present the biggest pop party on TV alongside my old friend Fearne." disappointing that they've had to get quite a few people doing both shows, they really should just condense it to one show

Why oh why do Fearne & Reggie keep getting asked back to host this every single year???
Interesting to see they've got Blossoms performing, even though they haven't even had a minor hit this year. Not that I'm complaining, mind. |

Yay for Olly, DNCE and Craig David. The continual lack of Little Mix on this when they've smashed it both album and singles wise this last year is beyond us!

Skepta should make a few grannys choke on their turkey on Xmas Day
Hope Blossoms release another track in the new year and their album has a chance of being that big New Year revival album! |

I just got an audience ticket for this!! But I don't know if I'll be able to make it yet as I've just started a new job
Hope so though, I may be getting older (28) but it would still be cool seeing some of the above live, 'Faded' especially is my favourite song of the year so that would be heavenly! |

So I just got back from seeing the afternoon recording of this, absolutely brilliant - there's four different recording sessions in all, good job too as we were all exhausted after just the one lol. Fantastic day though! Here were the acts and songs played:
James Arthur - Say You Won't Let Go (Christmas AND New Year versions, either he's genuinely on twice or they don't know which show to put him on yet) DNCE - Cake By The Ocean (Xmas) Louisa Johnson - So Good (Xmas) Clean Bandit ft Anne Marie - Rockabye (Xmas) Anne Marie - Alarm (NY) Clean Bandit ft Louisa Johnson - Tears (NY) Look out for me in the Screamadelica t-shirt Should be a good one! |

There was a bar where you could buy drinks before going in, but nothing in the studio itself - a few throats (including mine) were pretty sore by the end after being encouraged to whoop and cheer along at every take.
It was surprisingly empty in the end - being a Monday afternoon they were quite low on audience and had to keep arranging us to make it look like there were double the amount of us, something that got trickier as more and more people left the longer recording went on. Astonishing really given you're seeing a ton of currently A-list acts for completely free, but not everyone I suppose can get the time off work. |

Yeah they were there, they recorded the start and end of the Christmas special and beginning of the New Year one. (I think they planned to film the end of the New Year one too but ran out of time, so presumably that was filmed in another recording)
They don't know the exact order of the appearing acts yet, so filmed a load of different links in the middle of the recording introducing the same act but in various different ways (start/middle/end of the show etc) so it can be easily edited later. For now it's Louisa - So Good opening Christmas and Anne-Marie - Alarm opening New Year, but it could change! |

Is there any apparent logic to which songs go in which show? I presume you can tell by the set/costumes but if they were split arbitrarily presumably they could do one show at a time.

They tend to put the bigger/better songs in the Christmas show and have a few more random selections in the New Year one |
