So folks tells us what your favourite and most shocking chart moments this year were?
Mine is obvious at the 15 week reign of King Drake from April to July, never thought we would see that run again! Always happens in changeover times - 1991/92 with Bryan Adams/Witney, 2007 with Rihanna/Jay-Z and now 2016. |

Not really one of the biggest in general but one of my favourite chart moments this year was The xx - 'On Hold' scraping into the top 40! That was a pleasant surprise as I thought it was just going to miss out. It was wonderful to observe as it's one of my favourite songs of the year and also their first top 40 since 2010!
Drake was definitely the chart 'moment' of the year ~ it felt like the most talked about chart event because of just how absurdly long that run was. Rick Astley and Craig David getting album #1s also felt pretty big. G'won comeback kings. |

I forgot The XX got a week when they first released On Hold and it was recently - hope it gets an extended run in January when it goes A listed on radio 1 and the albums out.

Sir Drake getting 15 weeks was a proper moment, we'll probably not see that kind of domination for a long time yet.
Clean Bandit ending the long run of X Factor and charity single Christmas number ones too. |

Lukas Graham. Full Stop.
The Neales making the Top 40 purely on physicals was nice as well (waits for Joseph to reply telling me how he had to make the song profile as there wasn't one pre-prepared ) |

One Dance ruling the spring & summer with an iron fist, and the amazing Tilted becoming one of the oddest chart hits of the year *.*

The fewer number of top 40 entries compared to 2015 meaning there will be less songs to choose from in the future when we look back at our favourite top 40 hits from 2016.

Dave Clark sneaking a top 40 hit yesterday. also the David Bowie influx too & Elle King getting a top 15 hit, didn't expect it to get anywhere near.
Disturbed top 30 too *______* |

One Dance ruling the spring & summer with an iron fist, and the amazing Tilted becoming one of the oddest chart hits of the year *.* Tilted wasn't an unusual chart hit imo, it is the sort of current in trend indie electronica (similar to Chvrches or MŲ) that often gets played by Radio 1 (the only type of indie that usually makes the charts these days). More unusual imo was Offaiah Trouble - a looped mix of funky and electro house that sounded like it was from 2006. This post has been edited by Snakin' Stevens: 24th December 2016, 03:35 PM |

Tilted was certainly unusual in how it took off by a Graham Norton performance, and it probably wouldn't have been given a commercial push without the resulting iTunes boost from that.

^^ Was gonna say that without GN it wouldn't have got a pish on radio 1 albeit they did add iT to the upfront list a month before that which I was loving when Tilted exploded!

That it might be but from the song itself (having known it for a year in its original french form, and knowing it was successful in Europe) it never once ringed to me as a potential UK hit, thinking it was too subtle/wouldn't have enough pop appeal to catch on (one of the cases i'm immensely glad to be proven wrong though~) |

You know me well :') Stitches going to #1 was my personal favourite moment of the year, I'd loved that song for months before and been a fan of Shawn's for about a year and a half beforehand so seeing him break through finally was a really excellent moment. I also loved how Shout Out to My Ex defied all expectations and debuted at #1 on four and a bit days! |

Biggest moments personally, not directly related to the chart~
- Disturbed becoming a hit completely out of nowhere. - Last week, where we saw two new entries in the top 10 for over a year and arguably the best chart all year. - The Neales getting a chart play when they were nowhere in the midweeks (and Joseph stating he didn't have a profile prepared subsquently ) - Fast Car zooming up the charts like a Fast Car and going 74-2- or something stupid. - The 'fart in a lift' meme - Mine and Pete's contradicting opinions on Drake :,) |
