I'll have seen 106 movies from this year after I see Collateral Beauty, Passengers and Why Him? and then we can begin Just a note: There are a few movies that won't be on the list that I either just missed or don't interest me (I hate horror!) such as the likes of the Angry Birds Movie, Conjuring 2, Don't Breathe and Lights Out! I'm just a bit of a scaredy cat really so try to avoid pretty much all horrors unless they're more light-hearted like Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse or Pride & Prejudice & Zombies I really enjoyed 10CL though so if it's kind of like that then I might enjoy DB too? (also it has Dylan Minnette in it soooo )

'Bastille Day'/'The Legend of Tarzan'/'War Dogs'/'Queen of Katwe' are the ones I wouldn't have minded checking out / missed out due to lack of time I guess / chose other options, so interested to see how highly you rank any of these.

c: Joined: 12 March 2014 Posts: 13,152 User: 20,692	Ah, I haven't seen these from your list: The Hateful Eight (was an 18 so ) Our Brand Is Crisis A Bigger Splash Freeheld Anomalisa The Man Who Knew Infinity Demolition Sing Street Everybody Wants Some Departure A Hologram For The King The Stanford Prison Experiment Maggie's Plan Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping Captain Fantastic The Girl With All The Gifts A Street Cat Named Bob Indignation The Edge of Seventeen The Pass Some of these like A Bigger Splash, Demolition (mainly for Jake like you say), Sing Street, Popstar, Edge of Seventeen are films I was really looking forward to but my local cinema has only six screens so we don't get so many films there. I'm lucky that Milton Keynes (about 30 mins drive) has 16 screens so gets pretty much everything but we only go about once a month as it is quite far away and no free parking For Demolition, we missed out on it because we'd just been the week before to see Jane Got a Gun and Louder than Bombs at MK! From the ones you mentioned, all were decent but the only one I would really recommend is Bastille Day, that was a lot of fun! This post has been edited by Josh.: 28th December 2016, 10:51 AM

c: Joined: 12 March 2014 Posts: 13,152 User: 20,692	101. The Divergent Series: Allegiant - We're not even in the top 100 yet but we have already reached our first massive disappointment. I've read all the Divergent books and thoroughly enjoyed them so was very excited when the film series was announced. I found the first movie really enjoyable and probably would rank it in my EOY top 20 of 2014. Whilst Insurgent was a bit of a drop off in quality, it was still a fun film and had its moments of great action so I really wasn't expecting such a cliff drop in quality into this film but it was really quite terrible. There were still small parts to enjoy which is why it's above five other films here but there was so much bad about it that it's hard to focus on the good things My main problem with it was how terrible the outside world looked. Jumping the wall should have been this great moment but instead we got this weird CGI landscape that just looked so cheap and completely took me out of the movie. Tris had some good parts and I still think she's a good character but unfortunately (much like the book) her role in this is shared pretty much equally with Four is unlikeable in the movies I think and I don't think Theo James as the right charisma for the role at all. Also, the villain was just dull and Jeff Daniels really needs to try something new because playing the same roles is getting boring now. Not a patch on Kate Winslet as the villain which is another reason why this movie is just so much less enjoyable than its two predecessors... 102. Dad's Army - This was probably a great little film if you're a fan of the old series and the sort of humour in that but for me, everything just felt pretty flat. There are some very talented comedians and actors in this film such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Gambon and Blake Harrison but it seemed like a waste of talent when all the jokes were played so safe which meant it was difficult to laugh at much really. Zeta-Jones was definitely the highlight of the whole movie and she ended up being the only bit I really enjoyed because she spiced things up a bit and pulled off the more serious yet cheeky role really well which probably shouldn't be the case in a comedy film where the jokes should be the best thing about it. Not a bad film but I found it difficult to engage and therefore can't place it very high in the list. 103. Bad Santa 2 - One of the more recent films that are the this low down as the quality seems to have picked up a bit now we're in awards season but it seems not all Christmas movies can at least provide a holiday charm that makes them even slightly enjoyable because this film felt like a chore to watch. Of course, I understand that it wasn't intended to be an upbeat family movie but it was just too crude, too unfunny, too boring to enjoy whatsoever and I can't say my lip even curled into a slight smile once during the whole film. Everyone in the film just felt so unreal too like a massive caricature (Tony Cox being the worst here, I mean I couldn't even understand what he was saying most of the time, nevermind laugh at the supposed jokes he was coming out with). Kathy Bates was probably the best thing about it but she's capable of so much more and she really couldn't save this stinker of a movie for me. 104. Midnight Special - I imagine this will be yet another controversial choice for being so low and I know quite a lot of people on the site enjoyed this too who saw it but I just remember finding it SO dull, like nothing happened the whole movie apart from a few weird sparkling white eye scenes or something ? I've never fallen asleep in a film before but this was the closest I've gotten in a long, long time. It felt like the film was never going to end at one point! Luckily it did finally end but not without about FIVE minutes of different angled shots of some random alien city just to end it all on a high note (not!). As well as being boring, the whole thing was very confusing too and basically every question there was to ask was left unanswered in some sort of mysterious, elitist indie way that just made me hate it even more. There were a few short scenes of excitement such as the petrol station scene but they didn't last long enough to warrant a higher placing on my EOY. 105. The Choice - Much like The Big Short, I don't think I'm really this film's main target audience so it's understandable why I didn't enjoy it so much. Writing commentary for this is going to be hard too because I pretty much don't remember anything about it as it was such a forgettable film too so I'm using my comment from back in March about it to help me write this. My main problem with this was the overly sweet, cringey dialogue and I do remember having this sort of lump in my throat in the cinema at some of the scenes because it was just so uncomfortably cringey watching it Apparently I did find it quite funny though and laughed at a proposal scene so I'll take my word for it, I don't remember any of that though 106. The Big Short - Probably a controversial choice for dead bottom because it is a very critically acclaimed film and even bagged FIVE nominations at last year's Oscars ceremony but I think it's just one of those films that wasn't for me. I just don't know if I'm intelligent enough to 'get' this sort of film () and the majority of it really just flew over my head and I had no idea what most of the dialogue was even about (despite the celebrity cameo attempts at explaining things that didn't really help). The only positive thing I can say about this is the acting was really good and Bale especially deserved his awards nominations for sure. I can understand why it was such a popular film but I can't say that I enjoyed it one bit really. I don't think Jahq liked it either so at least he'll approve

Really want to see The Choice, especially now its on Netflix! Loved Midnight Special & Allegiant was so bad, so much that I still haven't been bothered to read the last book!

Definitely had me thinking a long while afterwards about it's meaning. The Big Short is definitely an acquired taste, I didn't know what was going on for a lot of it, but I think it was the actors' performances that made it worthwhile and I actually loved the celebrity segments! I hope the top of your list is AMAZING to make up for these two so low In regards to Midnight Special, I am usually into more thought-provoking films but this just left me bored for the whole thing really, I was really disappointed The only celebrity cameo I liked was Margot Robbie from The Big Short because it was quite fun but even then, it didn't actually help me to understand what was going on even a little, it was like watching a film in another language I hope so too but tbh, I'm a big fan of blockbusters and most 'terrible' movies so everyone will probably be hating on my top 20 or so Thanks for commenting Chez !

Zoolander 2 - I'm actually not a huge fan of the original of this either and didn't find the first one THAT funny in the first place but yeah, this didn't have any of the charm of the original and pretty much all of the jokes fell flat. Will Ferrell was my big highlight and his character of Mugatu is loads of fun so I'm glad we got a few more great one-liners from him. Penelope Cruz was also very likeable as usual and Benedict Cumberbatch had a funny cameo too, would love to see him do more fun roles like that. The rest of the jokes relied far too heavily on the former glories of the first film and some just didn't make sense like Kiefer Sutherland being pregnant or something? I guess it was a nice ride to meet the characters again years down the line but I wish the finished product was a lot more enjoyable. 97. Louder Than Bombs - I quite enjoyed this at the time but it has gone down in my rankings quite a bit since I saw it in April as it hasn't really stayed with me much over time. The performances in the film were excellent, especially the mum who was my personal highlight but aside from the acting, the film was a little on the weird side which I guess made for a little bit of uncomfortable viewing. I remember enjoying watching the sort of dysfunctional family dynamics and how it all unfolded but idk, some parts were just a bit unnerving I guess. 98. Ride Along 2 - This is one of those comedy sequels that nobody asked for at all. I guess the first film did pretty well financially so I can see why Hart and Cube wanted to capitalise on its success but it wasn't very funny in the first place and far from either of their best comedy work so I wish they had focused their time on better projects rather than this which also wasn't very funny. It did have its moments though and I especially enjoyed the joke where everything became a video game and I can't deny that the two leads are very likeable and have very good chemistry too. Much like the first movie, I thought the last act was a drop in quality too because it was just boring action that we've seen before in loads of movies and the comedy was pushed aside for the end which is a shame. 99. London Has Fallen - This film was pretty must just action scenes non-stop with very little plot and therefore, there was little to really take from this film for me. It just felt like 100 minutes of mindless action and I struggled to enjoy it much because there was nothing interesting or unique about the action scenes either. I enjoyed the London setting and the familiarity of that so found the scenes with the landmarks blowing up and all the Royal Guards turning on the spectators quite fun to watch but after that it was just car chase after car chase and shootout after shootout that my mind pretty much just switched off. Aside from using London as the film's setting, my only other highlight was Gerard Butler who remains as likeable as ever and a great action film star who can always make a bad film at least slightly more enjoyable. 100. Capture the Flag - This is just one of those cheap animated films that nobody even goes to see or has probably even heard of (I'm the only one to have commented in its thread on here anyway ) but I was struggling for something to see one week so ended up just going for the sake of it and seeing if I could maybe get a surprise good film from this. It's certainly not a bad film but I can't say it left any impression on me at all. I sort of just went to watch it, watched it, then forgot about it as I was walking out the door of the cinema basically I seem to have enjoyed the character Igor who was a chameleon looking at my comment in the thread but I don't really remember anything great he did now. Kids movies are usually enjoyable for the odd great joke they throw in there but I think this was aimed at pretty young children and the humour was very immature so there wasn't much to keep me entertained in terms of comedy either. I don't think you guys missed much if you didn't see this!

The Revenant - I seem to be getting rid of a fair few critically acclaimed really early but I promise I am leaving some for near the top This is a movie where I just feel like the runtime completely ruined the film, if the story was more concise without huge lulls in the middle then I would have absolutely adored this movie. I could sing praises about the massive highs in this movie for quite some time, some parts had me right on the edge of my seat like the bear attack and the final fight scene between Hardy/DiCaprio were so well choreographed. The acting was of course fantastic and the lead role is very deserving of the Oscar that DiCaprio won for it, Hardy did a very good job of being intimidating too although I struggled to understand anything he said so I'm not sure he'd have got a nomination from me. Overall, it is a fantastic piece of cinema but personally, I was bored for the majority of it and can't say I enjoyed it as much as the other 90 films on the list. 92. The Finest Hours - Disney have had such a massive year at the box office and very few disappoints, this being one of the very short list. It's pretty much the definition of a well-made solid movie but personally, boats and that just don't interest me so I wasn't massively enthralled in the action scenes. It had a stellar plot and I enjoyed the uplifting ending and strong acting (Casey Affleck is always great and Pine was as enjoyable to watch as ever, so much charisma!). I think mainly that my lack of knowledge and interest in the subject matter of sailing meant I didn't enjoy it as much as others and it did have some slow moments too that left me feeling a bit bored... 93. Triple 9 - This was an alright film and certainly had enjoyable moments but once you've seen far more intense thrillers such as Sicario, films like this just seem a bit lacking in comparison to those. I'm a fan of cliffhanger endings too most of the time but much like Burnt from last year, this just seemed to end right at the good bit that we'd all been waiting for which was a bit infuriating too I said in my comment from February that it felt like I watched three quarters of a film and then my Wi-Fi stopped working I liked the storyline though and how it unfolded as Casey Affleck's character began to work out who the fourth guy was and it had a fair few tense moments so overall I did enjoy it, just not as much as many other thrillers. 94. The Legend of Tarzan - A film about a guy that lives in a jungle, raised by apes and who can swing through trees really has no right whatsoever to be as boring as this was. It should be full of amazing action sequences and badass jungle man swinging but those moments were few and far between (although they were very good when we did get them, highlights being the wildebeest stampede and Tarzan vs. Gorilla) and instead we got loads of boring dialogue scenes with very little charisma to pull them off. Sometimes, the actors can inject a certain amount of fun into their scenes but I didn't find Skarsgård very enjoyable to watch at all and Margot Robbie was doing most of the heavy lifting in terms of making the film watchable, she did a good job too but we didn't get nearly enough of Jane as a character. It's not really a good thing when you'd rather watch Jane over Tarzan 95. Hell or High Water - Yet another critically acclaimed choice dropping out in a questionable position on my EOY and yet another film that I can recognise is a very well made film but just not really my cup of tea. I enjoyed the tense moments, bank robbery scenes and shootouts but the rest of the movie movie along very slowed for my tastes which made it difficult to enjoy so much. The accents were also very thick and I had trouble understanding the majority of the dialogue in the film which didn't help either really. The acting was fantastic though so I'd love for Jeff Bridges to pick a nomination up at the Oscars this year (not sure I'd put in my top 5 until I see a few more contenders though) and it's a shame Pine and Foster have been so overlooked for their performances here.

Triple 9/London Has Fallen/Zoolander 2 are definitely down there for me as well and yasss at that overrated crap just missing the top 90!!
