Joseph's Hit 250 | Year-End 2016 (click the picture below!)

Chart Commentary

I hope all of you had a fantastic Christmas! Wishing everyone a Happy New Year also. I'll be commenting on your charts this week to return the favour for all the lovely comments you've given me recently!

The final #1 of this year comes from DJ trio Kris Kross Amsterdam and British popstar Conor Maynard, alongside rapper Ty Dolla $ign. Are You Sure? marks the first appearance of Kris Kross Amsterdam, joining former collaboration partners Cheat Codes in hitting the top spot with the follow-up to their track Sex, which didn't make my top 40 at all. Conor Maynard however is not a stranger to my chart, with seven previous top 10 hits to his name and two #1s from his last two singles Talking About and Royalty. Ty Dolla $ign has only charted once before, with Fifth Harmony on their #1 hit Work from Home. He is only the fourth rapper to achieve 2 or more #1s singles, following Iggy Azalea (7), Nicki Minaj (2) and G-Eazy (2).

Kris Kross Amsterdam
2016 01 Are You Sure? (Kris Kross Amsterdam & Conor Maynard feat. Ty Dolla $ign) | NAS | 1-... (1+ weeks)

Conor Maynard
2012 09 Can't Say No | 1 | 17-14-13-10-9-13-17-X (7 weeks)
2012 04 Vegas Girl | 2 | 16-16-11-6-4-4-7-9-12-16-21-X (11 weeks)
2012 21 Just In Case | AT | 21-X (1 week)
2012 09 Turn Around (feat. Ne-Yo) | 3 | 9-11-15-17-25-26-29-X (7 weeks)
2013 05 Animal (feat. Wiley) | 4 | 5-7-9-14-16-23-19-17-27-33-40-39-X (12 weeks)
2013 03 R U Crazy | NAS | 3-4-7-12-15-19-26-31-X (8 weeks)
2015 01 Talking About | NAS | 1-4-5-8-10-15-19-21-26-38-X (10 weeks)
2015 01 Royalty | NAS | 1-3-6-17-22-30-38-X (7 weeks)
2016 01 Are You Sure? (Kris Kross Amsterdam & Conor Maynard feat. Ty Dolla $ign) | NAS | 1-... (1+ weeks)

Ty Dolla $ign
2016 01 Work from Home (Fifth Harmony feat. Ty Dolla $ign) | FEAT | 14-1-2-2-3-5-7-11-15-16-20-30-39-21-16-19-25-32-38-X-32-X (20 non-consecutive weeks)
2016 01 Are You Sure? (Kris Kross Amsterdam & Conor Maynard feat. Ty Dolla $ign) | FEAT | 1-... (1+ weeks)

JP Cooper also achieves his first top 10 hit this week, as September Song climbs up 19 places to #9. It's his second top 40 hit, following Jonas Blue collaboration Perfect Strangers, which only got as high as #37. September Song's taken a while to impact my chart, initially getting released in September (appropriately). I listened to it upon release and whilst I liked it, I didn't download it and it only entered my chart at the beginning of November, climbing into the top 10 in the final chart of 2016!

JP Cooper
2016 37 Perfect Strangers (Jonas Blue feat. JP Cooper) | FEAT | 37-X (1 week)
2016 09 September Song | 2 | 31-13-25-X-28-9-... (5+ non-consecutive weeks)

Also this week, George Shelley charts with his sixth and final weekly release from his Originals project. Only two of the songs made the top 10 but two further tracks made the top 20 and none lower than #22. This week, Prove Me Wrong is a new entry at #15, the third highest position to date. Last week's track Poltergeist also becomes the first song of his to climb in week 2 to a new peak! Soldier is the most successful track as things stand, peaking at #7 and it's currently on its 5th week in the chart.

George Shelley
2016 08 360 | 1 | 8-12-26-38-X (4 weeks)
2016 07 Soldier | 2 | 7-12-18-25-32-... (5+ weeks)
2016 20 Scars | 3 | 20-40-X (2 weeks)
2016 22 Make It Better | 4 | 22-37-X (2 weeks)
2016 22 Poltergeist | 5 | 33-22-... (2+ weeks)
2016 15 Prove Me Wrong | 6 | 15-... (1+ weeks)

Also this week, RHODES and Felix Jaehn (pictured) jump up to a new peak of #3 with Your Soul (Holding On). It's still yet to match RHODES' highest peak of #1 with single Close Your Eyes, but it does however mean Felix Jaehn has a brand new personal best for the second week running. This has had a positive impact on RHODES' debut album Wishes too, released last year. It soared to a #1 debut and is back at the top spot today after over a year. It knocks Tom Odell's Spending All My Christmas With You EP off the top spot, as it drops 10 places to #11, marking the biggest drop from #1 in my album chart ever (mostly down to Christmas now being over!).

In an otherwise quiet week, only Kent Jones also achieves a new personal best, thanks to his feature on M.O's Not In Love which is up two places to #8. There's a re-entry from Sean Paul and Dua Lipa with No Lie at a new peak of #30, and Lady Gaga finally enters at #36 with Million Reasons. As of right now, it's looking to be her first single to miss my top 10 since my chart began, but things may change if it climbs up!

Probably their weakest single since their commercial breakthrough cry.gif (it's not BAD but I much prefer the others I must say)

Interesting chart changes...

1. Kris Kross Amsterdam & Conor Maynard feat. Ty Dolla $ign - Are You Sure? - 1- A #1 debut! That's got to be rare? I've only ever had one...anyway, I quite like this song, altho Conor Maynard is trying his best to become Justin Bieber 2... still, JB is on break, so what better time!
3. RHODES vs. Felix Jaehn - Your Soul (Holding On) - 6-3- this sounds fun, will check it out
4. Louis Tomlinson & Steve Aoki - Just Hold On - 1-2-4- this will debut strongly on my next chart, to come later this week too
6. Little Mix - Touch - 25-1-2-5-6-5-6- they're having a strong era! Listened to the album yesterday, very on-trend for a pure pop group!
8. M.O feat. Kent Jones - Not in Love - 13-10-8- good on them for trying. I have a soft spot for them because of the Mini Viva girl
9. JP Cooper - September Song - 31-13-25-X-28-9- will need to bring this back myself, enjoyed it when it released LY
13. Zara Larsson - I Would Like - 34-10-15-16-13- slightly baffled by the official chart success of this...it's not bad, but not better than AMF or Lush Life...
14. Louisa Johnson - So Good - 13-1-1-1-2-3-6-10-11-14- you might want to check out Molly Kate Kestner on my chart this week, v similar
18. JoJo feat. Remy Ma - FAB. - 15-7-11-15-18- ooh new Remy Ma? a name I've not seen in a while. Onto my list
21. Clean Bandit feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie - Rockabye - 27-1-2-2-4-7-9-13-20-21-21- so deserving of its success. Anne-Marie must be thrilled
23. Pia Mia - We Should Be Together - 19-23- still surprised how interesting this one is. Too bad about her flop with will.i.am
24. The 1975 - She's American - 40-24- one of my top tracks of 2016

Hi Joseph!

1. Kris Kross Amsterdam & Conor Maynard feat. Ty Dolla $ign - Are You Sure? - 1- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** Conor's still getting around isn't he, despite his chart career having flopped! Fair play to him, and this song's actually alright.

24. The 1975 - She's American - 40-24- one of my top tracks of 2016
26. Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello - Bad Things - 37-23-26- Camila is so young! in her element here tho
27. Lost Kings feat. Emily Warren - Phone Down - 20-2-7-27- will this see success this year I wonder?
28. Ryan Lawrie - If Only - 6-10-15-26-X-1-2-4-5-7-11-14-15-15-17-10-16-17-19-23-29-30-28- this impressed me - was it a pre-XF release?
31. ZAYN & Taylor Swift - I Don't Wanna Live Forever - 17-24-31- underwhelmed by this
34. Banks - Trainwreck - 21-18-25-31-34- just came across this one, what a banger
36. Lady Gaga - Million Reasons - 36- single version far inferior to live versions, but not a bad song

Lots to comment on here! Thanks for sharing! smile.gif

Hey there, thanks for so many comments! ohmy.gif

1. 2016 saw only 9 #1 debuts, which is almost definitely down on previous years! This is mainly because of New Music Fridays, and the fact I type my chart up on Friday evenings, meaning some new releases will chart low on that same Friday and climb high with a full week the following Friday! Are You Sure didn't actually chart on release day so it entered straight at the top biggrin.gif
6. It's a fantastic album, certainly their best to date!
13. I agree that her previous singles are better but I'm definitely not complaining at more chart success for Zara heart.gif
14. I will check her out, thanks for the recommendation!
27. I hope so! It's a really catchy song, although it's falling very quickly in my chart oops.
28. Yeah that's right! He released it in February last year biggrin.gif
31. Me too unfortunately sad.gif

Hey Mango! Thanks for commenting biggrin.gif

1. Yeah he's not doing too bad at keeping his name out there! I was thinking this could be a decent sized hit but Capital have dropped it already so maybe not drama.gif
8. I pray it can be big! Would be great to see them achieve a second hit.
9. And not just top 40, it of course ended up comfortably top 20! ohmy.gif What a great turnout! Really hoping it can leap into the top 10 next week too wub.gif
23. I think so too, although sadly I can't see it after how Touch fared sad.gif
26. It proved to be a bit of a grower for me too! The chorus was instant but the rap took a bit of getting used to laugh.gif
31. I thought so too, I think the lack of Spotify in week 1 was quite damaging! Still time I guess but I've seen a lot of people say they're disappointed in the song and I'm the same unfortunately.
36. Indeed, it's a really nice song, although not one of her strongest moments for me! Should be doing better than it has been for sure though.
