Chart Commentary
The highest new entry this week comes from American DJ duo Grey, consisting of brothers Kyle and Michael Trewartha. They made their chart debut last year alongside Hailee Steinfeld on Starving, which features Zedd, and now they are charting as the primary artist on I Miss You. It's the first chart appearance for group Bahari, however. The track is new in at #5 this week, two places lower than Starving's #3 peak. Grey 2016 03 Starving (Hailee Steinfeld & Grey feat. Zedd) | NAS | 27-4-10-13-22-35-X-23-12-3-5-9-14-21-28-39-X (15 non-consecutive weeks) 2017 05 I Miss You (feat. Bahari) | NAS | 5-... (1+ weeks) Bahari 2017 05 I Miss You (Grey feat. Bahari) | FEAT | 5-... (1+ weeks) Also new into this week's top 10 is Tinie Tempah's new track Text from Your Ex. It's the fourth single from third album Youth, and is his highest charting track as a lead artist to date. His last top 10 hit was Girls Like, which got to #8 and managed a very good run in my top 40, and this charts one place higher. It's his fourth top 10 hit overall, and the third for featured artist Tinashe, whose personal best is the #3 peak she achieved with Britney Spears on Slumber Party last year. Tinie Tempah 2012 12 R.I.P. (Rita Ora feat. Tinie Tempah) | FEAT | 15-12-16-19 (4 weeks) 2014 10 Lover Not a Fighter (feat. (1+ weeks) There are three other new songs in this week's top 10, all by artists who have never made my chart previously. Nightly entered at #19 last week with XO and shoot up 10 places to score their first top 10 hit, just ahead of Tiėsto at #10, who has surprisingly not scored any other chart hits before On My Way, featuring Bright Sparks. Shane Harper (pictured) re-enters at a new peak of #8 this week, after previously getting to #14 with first hit Like I Did. Lower down the chart, we have the debut chart appearance from Sage the Gemini, plus Joe and Jake follow up their #9 hit You're Not Alone with a #40 hit in the form of Tongue Tied. There are new personal bests for Future and New Hope Club alongside those previously mentioned already. SEE ALSO Chart Runs - all chart runs sorted by artist Archive - all previous charts |

Hi Joseph!
Oops, I haven't heard any of your Top 5 6. Ed Sheeran - Shape of You - 38-1-3-6- 7. Tinie Tempah feat. Tinashe - Text from Your Ex - 7- I just can't get into this at all, the chorus just annoys me, both in its childish melody and ridiculous lyrics. He's getting progressively worse for me with each era, nothing he's done since has ever matched up to the first three singles! (Having said all that I did quite like Mamacita, although it seems nobody else did ) 12. Jax Jones feat. RAYE - You Don't Know Me - 18-9-8-12- 13. The Chainsmokers - Paris - 9-13- 14. Ed Sheeran - Castle on the Hill - 40-2-7-14- 15. Robin Schulz, David Guetta & Cheat Codes - Shed a Light - 38-1-1-3-4-5-8-13-16-15- 16. JP Cooper - September Song - 31-13-25-X-28-9-4-7-10-16- 17. Little Mix - Touch - 25-1-2-5-6-5-6-7-12-15-17- 19. The Vamps & Matoma - All Night - 8-1-2-3-3-2-5-6-9-12-12-11-14-18-22-19- Can you explain why this is having such a lengthy run in the Top 40 when none of their recent singles have? It's genuinely baffling me! 20. Snakehips & MŲ - Don't Leave - 8-13-20- 21. Sean Paul feat. Dua Lipa - No Lie - 32-X-30-35-39-30-21- 22. Louis Tomlinson & Steve Aoki - Just Hold On - 1-2-4-6-11-14-22- 23. Starley - Call On Me (Ryan Riback Remix) - 8-14-18-20-21-24-20-23- 29. Sia - Move Your Body - 38-36-29- YESSS Sia get that Top 30 smash 30. Little Mix feat. Charlie Puth - Oops - 16-31-X-9-7-7-9-14-21-30- 31. M.O feat. Kent Jones - Not in Love - 13-10-8-10-16-23-31- So frustrating that this missed out on a Top 40 position last week and looks set to do so again I just hope they keep persevering and delivering quality songs like this. 32. Sage the Gemini - Now and Later - 32- Only heard this for the first time yesterday and I got into it pretty much straight away! I like its old skool vibe, it sounds straight out of about 2005! 33. Nathan Sykes - There's Only One of You - 29-20-24-33- 34. Kris Kross Amsterdam & Conor Maynard feat. Ty Dolla $ign - Are You Sure? - 1-2-6-18-34- ** FASTEST FALLER ** 35. Louisa Johnson - So Good - 13-1-1-1-2-3-6-10-11-14-15-22-29-35- 37. Tom Odell - Silhouette - 4-4-8-9-10-11-17-26-37- 38. Zara Larsson - I Would Like - 34-10-15-16-13-13-19-27-38- Excellent chart as per |

Hi Joseph!
The chorus to 'Text from My Ex' is definitely one that gets more infectious the further into the song you get; I think Tinashe always does a great job when she sings song hooks. The song as a whole is an improvement on 'Mamacita', which never really did anything for me, but I miss the quotable Tinie lyrics like those in 'Girls Like' or 'Turn the Music Louder'. I suppose he can't do that all the time, but I'd say those are the songs that appeal to me the most. As I said before, it's quite undeniable how much 'On My Way' is like a 'Sugar' meets 'This Girl' mashup, but it does result in a very catchy song. I don't think I'll be charting, but it's getting me prepared for warm weather and summery tracks already! |

Sage the Gemini - Now and Later - 32- Only heard this for the first time yesterday and I got into it pretty much straight away! I like its old skool vibe, it sounds straight out of about 2005! Excellent chart as per Hey Mango, thanks for the reply! This top 5 is quite obscure even by my standards tbh 7. It does seem to be dividing opinion, some people love it and some hate it! I liked Mamacita but didn't love it, Girls Like is probably my favourite of his though. 19. Partly I think the change in sound has helped this but the main reason is streaming really! It took *forever* to be added to any Spotify playlists, and when it did start climbing, it was falling on sales but it's still on those playlists so still riding high on Spotify! Definitely no complaints from me, amazing to see them finally have a long-running hit. 31. It's a huge shame, I really hope they don't wait too long before pushing another single cause that could definitely do better. 32. I didn't know what to expect from this but I like it waaay more than I expected to! Hi Joseph! The chorus to 'Text from My Ex' is definitely one that gets more infectious the further into the song you get; I think Tinashe always does a great job when she sings song hooks. I don't think I'll be charting, but it's getting me prepared for warm weather and summery tracks already! Hey Liam, thanks for commenting I totally agree with you on that! I love the vibe Tinashe adds to the song. I also agree about the quotable Tinie lyrics, it's always been something he's been good at, right from Pass Out. It's the one thing Text from Your Ex is missing I'd say, but nevertheless I really like it and it definitely puts him back on track after Mamacita. On My Way really isn't original in the slightest but I find it quite irresistible, it's very catchy indeed! Would quite like to see it blow up and become a hit. -x- New chart coming shortly ~ |
