Jesus wept. All I can say is thank god he's missing 2 days of sales this week.

The top 40 lasted 39 years before it died, Spotify's top 50 chart has died in a fraction of that time.

2017 - the year streaming killed off chart music.

Well this is wonderfully ludicrous. If only because this HAS to force a change, I can see how they could maybe wave away Ed as a one off but the chart majority belonging to two artists, that's unignorable. So I hope it happens in the most obvious and ridiculous manner possible. For once, go Drake.

The album tacks for that won't impact Spotify that much though?

Also if you think Spotify has it bad, look at Apple Music.

Drake has 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,15,16,17,18,19,20,22,25,29,30
Ed has 4,14,21,23,24,26,27,28,31,32,33,34,35,36,37,44,49

literally the highest song not by either of those is Clean Zara... at #38.

I think the album track chart rules will almost certainly be changed before then if a significant number of Drake album tracks make the top 40 officially.

biggrin.gif what a mess. Apple Music is even worse but I guess it's due to lower amount of subscribers too (so it's easier to get higher and fluctuate within the charts).

How hard is it for the OCC to just exclude streams from those who are obviously listening to the album as a whole (or most of it) rather than picking those tracks to individually listen to? Of all the ways the chart could be 'fixed', this seems like the most logical one to me, it's not excluding album tracks...if people are genuinely accessing them actively to listen to as a standalone song then great, they should be counted, if not then their impact belongs in the album chart.

This would do away with the majority of album tracks charting...certainly for weeks on end anyway.

I'm sure it's not that hard, given in Scandinavia they already do that.

Drake has top 14 in the US
1. Passionfruit by Drake 2,425,487
2. Free Smoke by Drake 2,411,546
3. Portland by Drake 2,236,677
4. No Long Talk by Drake 2,057,656
5. Gyalchester by Drake 1,784,079
6. Sacrifices by Drake 1,755,009
7. Blem by Drake 1,752,619
8. Get It Together by Drake 1,726,393
9. Jorja Interlude by Drake 1,701,865
10.4422 by Drake 1,584,239
11.KMT by Drake 1,575,799
12.Madiba Riddim by Drake 1,575,452
13.Teenage Fever by Drake 1,512,937
14.Glow by Drake 1,428,224

These are good but not record breaking.. One Dance reached 18.3 million in a week in the US at its peak so these are far far far away from that (as they will drop later this week)

I think the only artists that could hit this level, if they hit a joint iTunes/Spotify release impact (two of the following did not, last time) would be Adele, Beyonce, Drake, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber. I don't think there are many other artists that come close.

Yeah, I agree that those are probably the only 5 who would have that kind of impact. It is just unfortunate for the charts 2 of them have released in weeks of each other.

Having said this, I am not even annoyed. 'More Life' is a great album and if it can knock some of the Ed songs down a peg or two I would much rather have this album dominating than 'Divide'. I need 'Passionfruit' and 'Get It Together' to stay about for a while please.

Hahahaha Beyonce? Nope. The old girl hasn't placed a No.1 single in the UK in 9 years!!!! It's all hype. From her last album she charted 5 singles, NONE made the top ten and they charted 60 / 40 / 11 / 33 / 31 - granted Lemonade got to #1 in the album chart, but as a solo singles artist now? - nah!

If Beyonce released her album through Spotify and on iTunes at the same time, it would definitely be doing similarly to Drake just now, if not better.

She got loads of her songs in the iTunes top 10 when 'Lemonade' was released. The sales were there for massive domination, it was just the streaming that wouldn't allow it.

Taylor could have a top 40 invasion if she's on Spotify next time, which she surely will be unless she wants to seriously sabotage her chance of ever having another hit. Maybe not Drake/Ed level, but certainly at least five or six tracks in the top 40 I reckon.

The OCC weren't wrong tbh, this definitely isn't on the same scale as Ed was kink.gif
