This week becomes the third week in a row that sees a brand new #1, as well as a #1 by an artist reaching that spot for the first time. Normally because of how long a period my charts cover I can foresee what upcoming #1s are likely; this one however was a bit unexpected, reaching the top spot now after entering at #26 just two weeks ago! I was familiar with Syn Cole as a more upbeat producer, so to see him partnering with Nevve on a slow jam was a surprise, but this is a stellar tune with a bit an early-2000s throwback feel to it. (Saddle up guys, this will be the next decade everyone’s nostalgic for, the bootcut apocalypse is on its way) There’s also an influence of Alan Walker, I’d say.
Last week’s topper by Wale, Major Lazer and Dua Lipa slips to #4 this week, its fourth in the top 10. Top 10 sees new entries from Shakira and Inna this week, and a re-entry from Cardiknox’s Perfect Strom, matching its previous peak. There’s a bunch of new entries this week, which means a lot more commentary to write, joy! Only one more Eurovisioner, but it’s this week’s highest new entry from Bulgaria’s second-placing Kristian Kostov. Last year’s Bulgarian entry, Poli Genova, made it into my end-of-year top 20. Other new entries this week come from Lana Del Rey, Calvin Harris, Cashmere Cat, HAIM, Felix Snow, Imagine Dragons, Emily Warren, Felix Jaehn and Linkin Park, among others. As ever, I’ll be making some posts further down this thread about the new entries with some video/audio and commentary so y’all can see what you think of em. Seems a lot of folk are re-releasing 2015 tracks this year anyway - Dua Lipa and Mura Masa are two I can think of right away! Ty for commenting

@Tombo: I don't see anything wrong with old songs charting
 Heck, my most recent debut on my charts is a song from like 1984 xDYour #1 song sounds nice! It feels like an Illenium song to me though, especially on the drop I feel like you might like his album Ashes if you like this song!The only songs I've heard on your list aside from that is The Cure, and (kinda) Despacito. And even then it's only a few times, so I don't have much of an opinion on them yet... Keep it up! |

Always awkward to write commentary late after posting the chart and starting to compile the next one! A nice shot of new entries this week helmed by a #1 I'd count as one of the strongest of the year, as well as being one that came out of the blue to claim the top spot. Bon Appetit was very unlucky to be pipped to the post reaching what's probably a peak of #2, denying Katy two #1 hits running. Likewise for Young and Menace which was in the running for a lot of the week to be FOB's first chart topper.
As for new entries during this week: My pick to win Eurovision unfortunately ended up second for the second year running. Kostov's Beautiful Mess wasn't my favourite song from this year's contest, but it's still pretty solid. It's his first charter for me. Great production and a stellar vocal for someone only 17 years old. Just a few weeks after her first #1 Jhene's back in the top 20, again on an EDM track, this time with Cashmere Cat. It's an interesting direction I didn't quite foresee her taking in 2017 after flirting with rap in 2015 and 16 and before that, staying squarely in middle-of-the-road R&B, but it works, her vocal's light and fragile, yet able to take charge of and run the tracks she appears on. It's Cashmere Cat's debut credit, although I feel I've charted tracks the producer produced but wasn't credited for in the past. This was much more immediate for me than the CC/Ariana track off his album that everyone seems to be raving about rn. Speaking of immediate. Lana goes back to basics on this one, bringing back the sound of Born to Die's production with her new deeper default vocal level. Coachella's by far the most instant of the three tracks she's released this year for me, favouring a trip-hop inspired beat and slightly darker vocal content than the for-her upbeat Love and Lust For Life she released earlier in the year. Those are cute songs, but why write about something happy when you can embrace the darker things in life? Having said that, LFL's video raised it in my estimations; it too re-enters and re-peaks this week. A really solid track from Imagine Dragons, following the standard set so far this era. Debuting inside the top 15, this becomes even on debut their highest charting song for me so far. I think it's a grat for now rather than a single, but it's strong material, they should consider rethinking that. HAIM's Right Now was more immediate for me than lead single Want You Back. The soft-to-blitz form of the track is great, blending together the band's pop rock and harder rock sensibilities. It's also reminding me of Sleigh Bells, a band I'm a big fan of, as well as an EDM-like structure. Rare to find a guitar-based song with a 'drop' these days. Not a lot to say about this one, funk is funky, current classic EDM production is on point. Felix Jaehn's return marks the chart debut for the two featured artists, although Alex Aiono's track Work the Middle has made it to just outside the top 40 for a few weeks this year. This one's much less cheeky. New Calvin Harris is essentially Slide Part II, and moves past the blip that was Heatstroke - not a great choice of second single, I think. Like Slide, it debuts at #20 in my personals. It's one of two debuts for featured vocalist Khalid in this week's chart. Yet another mid-20s debut for Felix Snow, a producer I've got right back into this year after being off my radar for a few. Lovesick follows Whippin with Kiiara and Windows with Icona Pop into this kind of position in the charts. Snow's biggest success this year is of course #1-peaking Redrum with Era Istrefi. As well as being a fourth top 40 for Snow, this one's a debut for lead Caroline Pennell. Like this week's #1, this track crept up on me out of the blue. I don't recall off the top of my head if it was a spotify Discovery/recommendation or just a newly-released track I came across, but it's pretty solid. It's the debut for vocalist Shaylen, and the return after a long time away of producers Manila Killa (what a great name) and AObeats, who last appeared with Foster the People back in 2014 or so. Early summer vibes. |

As for the lower new entries, I'm just going to be cheeky and share a few of them this week with shorter comments because I'm a bit behind schedule. A few of them will still be on my A-Playlist linked in my sig and in the first post in this thread, if you're interested in seeking them out.
Warren's solo debut, after appearing with Frenship on Capsize last year. You'll find more from her on the Chainsmokers' album. A double from two lower-ranking and less well-known rap-R&B ladies here was something I just couldn't resist. The track gives Keke and Dreezy their respective third charters. Keke's previously scored a top 10 and a top 30, and Dreezy two solo top 10s, as well as a feature on AlunaGeorge's Mean What I Mean. Second charter for Scottish band Vukovi. The slower midtempo has a feel of retro Paramore to it, or much older Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The band are still just getting started and could do with being shared on if you like them The number-titled track by Logic, Khalid and Alessia Cara is a solid track with an anti-suicide / mental health awareness message, which is a really worthwhile thing to focus on. The title refers to the national suicide prevention hotline phone number - although I think maybe just American. A good thing to share on in any case. For me, it's Alessia Cara's chart debut as I didn't like any of her solo stuff so far (too much sampling) and Stay with Zedd has been pipped to the post of getting into the top 40 for several weeks. Other new entries this week come from Ritual and Linkin Park, but have been a wee bit harder to find on youtube. Spotify is your friend. That's the week, quite late! My next chart should be up probably today or tomorrow  Hope y'all enjoyed this one

I was just intrigued as I loved her Inna/Body And The Sun album and I thought that maybe she had done more promo or wasn't sure if he had discovered the osng recently or something
