Welcome boys & girls, to heat 4. We have for you today, the indie nation that people don't appreciate when they send glorious dad rock, slightly appreciate when they send emotional and strained singers but mostly just ignore like most of Europe does. We have the little kid of the Nordic bloc who used to be doing well but has shifted to going through a period of bad luck despite the high quality of the entries not changing. And then we have the tiny island of Malta who is for the most part are just happy to be here, while Switzerland, the original kings of Eurovision have had some really tough times lately with most of this lineup having fallen deep in the semi. I think the theme of this week is EUROVISION LONERS. The only nation here with more than a 50% record is Iceland, three of the nations here are three of the nations that have never won but come 2nd in the past and with only 19 of the 40 songs here being finalists most of these have few close Eurovision 'bros' to constantly see them through. Shall we see what you think of them? ALBANIA 2008 ► Olta Boka - Zemrën e lamë peng 2009 ► Kejsi Tola - Carry Me In Your Dreams 2010 ► Juliana Pasha - It's All About You 2011 ► Aurela Gaçe - Feel The Passion 2012 ► Rona Nishliu - Suus 2013 ► Adrian Lulgjuraj & Bledar Sejko - Identitet 2014 ► Hersi - One Night's Anger 2015 ► Elhaida Dani - I'm Alive 2016 ► Eneda Tarifa - Fairytale 2017 ► Lindita - World ICELAND 2008 ► Euroband - This Is My Life 2009 ► Yohanna - Is It True? 2010 ► Hera Björk - Je Ne Sais Quoi 2011 ► Sjonni's Friends - Coming Home 2012 ► Greta Salóme & Jónsi - Never Forget 2013 ► Eyţór Ingi Gunnlaugsson - Ég á lif 2014 ► Pollapönk - No Prejudice 2015 ► Maria Olafs - Unbroken 2016 ► Greta Salóme - Hear Them Calling 2017 ► Svala - Paper MALTA 2008 ► Morena - Vodka 2009 ► Chiara - What If We 2010 ► Thea Garrett - My Dream 2011 ► Glen Vella - One Life 2012 ► Kurt Calleja - This Is The Night 2013 ► Gianluca - Tomorrow 2014 ► Firelight - Coming Home 2015 ► Amber - Warrior 2016 ► Ira Losco - Walk On Water 2017 ► Claudia Faniello - Breathlessly SWITZERLAND 2008 ► Paolo Beneguzzi - Era Stupendo 2009 ► Lovebugs - The Highest Heights 2010 ► Michael Von Der Heide - Il Pleut De l'or 2011 ► Anna Rossinelli - In Love For A While 2012 ► Sinplus - Unbreakable 2013 ► Takasa - You And Me 2014 ► Sebalter - Hunter Of Stars 2015 ► Mélanie René - Time To Shine 2016 ► Rykka - The Last Of Our Kind 2017 ► Timebelle - Apollo VOTING As normal, voting will be done in the traditional manner of 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point(s). When we reach countries which have less than 10 entries, the number of points will simply reduce accordingly. You must rank each set of entries from the different countries separately. Do not send one ranking with a mixture of all 4 countries. Votes for this heat can be sent via PM to myself before 23:59 Saturday 15th July 2017. The results will be presented the following evening. The top 2 songs from each country will progress to the next round, as well as the next 2 highest ranked entries from across the 4 countries. |

Ugh, I just know Iceland especially is going to be agony. Switzerland on the other hand...won't be.

Look at Albania, they might have had the worst run for me of any country so far. Just worse than Netherlands and their Radio 2 MOR tripe.

Frankly I think we need a clean sweep of all the 2008 entries this round!

Do you have to vote for every one? Or for instance can I just vote for Iceland?

There are specifically four songs I want to go through for Iceland, I'm fairly confident for two of them but the other two I'll be incredibly disappointed if they don't make it.

I have... 10 votes. Hopefully that'll shame a few more people into voting (I'll accept late votes) but otherwise I shall be starting the results at... some point this evening, I'm afraid I'm not sure on details yet. You'll hear when it does, I'll do a final 30 minute warning or something.

Half an hour - I know we've got BJSC going on at the same time but you can check this in between or something.

SWITZERLAND
Let's get the country that people probably care about the least out of the way first (although it IS a tough tie with Malta and Albania on that front), so I'm just going for my personal least essential. Anyway, here are the results of the bottom 5. 10th Michael Von Der Heide - Il Pleut De l'or - 26 points 9th Rykka - The Last Of Our Kind - 44 points 8th Takasa - You And Me - 52 points 7th Sinplus - Unbreakable - 55 points 6th Mélanie René - Time To Shine - 56 points Mourning the loss of Switzerland's attempts at guitars. Correct bottom 2 though. The top 5 going to be safe for the next round are Anna Rossinelli - In Love For A While Lovebugs - The Highest Heights Paolo Beneguzzi - Era Stupendo Sebalter - Hunter Of Stars Timebelle - Apollo |

MALTA
10th Glen Vella - One Life - 27 points 9th Thea Garrett - My Dream - 40 points 8th Claudia Faniello - Breathlessly - 42 points 7th Kurt Calleja - This Is The Night - 55 points 6th Gianluca - Tomorrow - 62 points Inessential Breathlessly manages to beat two other entries! If it weren't for the insatiably cheerful Tomorrow being awfully low considering the low quality of Malta on the whole then this would be good, none of the 4 below it are worth keeping so onwards! Amber - Warrior Chiara - What If We Firelight - Coming Home Ira Losco - Walk On Water Morena - Vodka is the Maltese top 5! |

Aw that Takasa song for Switzerland isn't too bad, it could've at least done better than the dreadful "Time to Shine".
Correct bottom three for Malta, the rest are pretty interchangeable for me. I assume Ira will be in the top 2 and she is just about my favourite but out of the four countries this week, I think I prefer my other top picks. |

ALBANIA
10th Eneda Tarifa - Fairytale - 30 points 9th Aurela Gaçe - Feel The Passion - 42 points 8th Adrian Lulgjuraj & Bledar Sejko - Identitet - 44 points 7th Hersi - One Night's Anger - 45 points 6th Lindita - World - 53 points GREAT SUCCESS as with two 12s and a barrage of 1s, Identitet beats two out of the nine inferior Albanian songs to get into 8th place. I've developed even more love for it this week. World is a bit of a loss too but I guess it's rather soon. The Albanian top 5 is: Elhaida Dani - I'm Alive Juliana Pasha - It's All About You Kejsi Tola - Carry Me In Your Dreams Olta Boka - Zemrën e lamë peng Rona Nishliu - Suus |

Finally, the main attraction for most people and certainly the least predictable nation, considering so many of their entries are loved: ICELAND
10th Sjonni's Friends - Coming Home - 36 points 9th Pollapönk - No Prejudice - 40 points 8th Eyţór Ingi Gunnlaugsson - Ég á lif - 44 points 7th Maria Olafs - Unbroken - 57 points 6th Svala - Paper - 64 points Rather UNSURPRISINGLY, the three entries done by masculine (and mostly bearded) Icelandic men fill up the last three places (No Prejudice is a right anthem guys), followed by the least essential of the Icelandic pop from Unbroken and Paper. Icelandic top 5, but which are the top 2 here? Euroband - This Is My Life Greta Salóme - Hear Them Calling Greta Salóme & Jónsi - Never Forget Hera Björk - Je Ne Sais Quoi Yohanna - Is It True? |

I was concerned Paper might have pushed out a better song because of its recentness but glad to see that's not materialised
