23rd July 2017
In the week of the tragic loss of Chester Bennington, I had to finally give the epic Numb the love I didn't give at the time, 14 years ago (I was in a bad place that year and couldnt cope with depressing music) - it only peaked at 30 in my charts, and it took the Jay-Z mash-up to take it to 15 on a long chart run to see what I'd missed. So, 16 years after In The End hit 7 in my charts (and re-enters at 15 here), Faint did ditto a few years later, and Steve Aoki took A Light That Never Comes to 5 4 years ago, Linkin Park finally get a number one here, knocking off the still-superb Adam Lambert track. The Union climb fast into the top 5, Syml into the top 20, and the highest new new entry, as opposed to older tracks, is from The Script at 27 - it never rains on Danny, it seems, but hey, for TLC it's Sunny - a fab reworking of the 1966 Bobby Hebb classic (who features on the track along with an Earth Wind & Fire sample - September). Last in my charts courtesy of Boney M 40 years ago! OMD got top 40, along with a host of returnees, but they also have another new track in at 55 - the new album title track, The Punishment of Luxury, while The Weeknd makes it 5 in a row off Starboy, Rockin' in at 48. Coldplay at back with a goodie at 53, Miracles, and Kylie is also back for her 31st year of chart hits here, assisting Zoot Woman at 58, as Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks assists Lana Del Ray on her 3rd of the year, nicel leapfrogging her two Mac compadres in the process for 41 years of charting. Enrique's Latin smash also enters at last (I've given in, I'm bound to hear it next week on a Spanish theme park family break), and gives him 18 years-worth of hits, loads of 'em. You want longevity though? The Selecter have been away for a while, since their 2-tone heyday - Pauline Black has always popped up here and there over the years in the media or touring, but they haven't troubled my charts since 1980, or solo Pauline since 1982's Shoorah Shoorah - so a gap of 35 years, that's one of the longest gaps ever for a returning act with new material. 1 NEW 1 1 NUMB Linkin Park 170000 2 1 1 4 TWO FUX Adam Lambert 570000 3 3 3 3 LOOKING FOR THE RAIN UNKLE featuring Mark Lanegan & ESKA 188500 4 2 1 3 DREAMS Grace Slick 350000 5 22 5 3 NO GOOD FOR YOU The Union featuring Lovespeake 96800 6 7 6 2 TRUE FEELING Galantis 105000 7 5 5 4 CHINATOWN Liam Gallagher 183000 8 8 3 6 THE MAN The Killers 336000 9 6 4 10 CRYING IN THE CLUB Camila Cabello 401100 10 10 10 2 AVE PLAGUE KING PLAGUE 84000 11 4 1 6 SUMMER WINE Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood 642000 12 12 12 2 GENEVE John Otway 70000 13 9 9 3 UNFORGETTABLE French Montana featuring Swae Lee 106000 14 17 14 9 MALIBU Miley Cyrus 157250 15 NEW 15 1 IN THE END Linkin Park 27000 16 27 16 4 FEELS Calvin Harris featuring Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean 71200 17 11 1 11 INTO THE FIRE VINAI featuring Anjulie 1115000 18 13 5 10 FEEL IT STILL Portugal. Hiya John, here are my favourites of the week!
It's nice to see Ben Haenow poke his head in at #75 I love your number one, the Jay-Z version was my jam back in the day but since Chester's passing the original version has taken on a whole new meaning for me! A lot of their music feels different to me now as I think about the anguish he must have been in. I really like the Steve Aoki collab that was prevously your highest charting Linkin Park single! Your number #2 is really good too, his last album was really good and I likd Welcome To The Show last year! It's nice to see Subeme La Radio enter too, that song was a #2 for me bakc in March. The Script's new single I really like too! 1 NEW 1 1 NUMB Linkin Park 170000 2 1 1 4 TWO FUX Adam Lambert 570000 14 17 14 9 MALIBU Miley Cyrus 157250 15 NEW 15 1 IN THE END Linkin Park 27000 16 27 16 4 FEELS Calvin Harris featuring Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean 71200 26 21 11 12 DESPACITO (REMIX) Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber 205100 27 NEW 27 1 RAIN The Script 18400 51 31 15 10 SWISH SWISH Katy Perry featuring Nicki Minaj 172950 53 NEW 53 1 MIRACLES (SOMEONE SPECIAL) Coldplay & Big Sean 11250 54 37 37 6 CAME HERE FOR LOVE Sigala & Ella Eyre 74750 72 NEW 72 1 SUBEME LA RADIO Enrique Iglesias featuring Descemer Bueno, Zion and Lennox 5600 75 NEW 75 1 ALIVE Ben Haenow 5000 Great chart this week |

Hi Toffo thanks for the list, glad you liking UNKLE, very dramatic synthstrings on that one (I do love dramatic synth/strings!). I don't understand why Galantis isn't rocketing up the charts, I can only guess it's not being featured on streaming sites and radio! Mr Sandman will hit my top 10, just like yours, hooray! Blondie def on a roll again which is fab to see for a seventy-something! cheers! john |

Ben Haenow has managed to climb a bit in the new chart, so no more on the bottom rung You were way ahead of me on Subeme - I liked it when I heard it a few months ago but it didnt grab enough to buy it till I heard it again a couple of times more recently. cheers! john |
