TTWE was a bonafide hit for Britney. Becoming a pilot light for her resurgence on dominating pop radio in the USA and still selling a considerable amount of units, in markets where she did not peak in the top ten. With that being said, lackluster promotional performances did not help ignite the original video into the highly acclaimed realm of her flawless music videos. The very videos that are responsible for a shift in pop culture. (Baby One More Time, (You Drive Me) Crazy, Oops... I Did It Again, Slave, Boys (one of the early pioneers of perfecting a green screen on a small scale), Toxic, Everytime, Womanizer, Work Bitch)

IMAGINE THE 'FEMME FATALE' ERA WAS LAUNCHED WITH 'TTWE' AS A FIRST SINGLE WITH THIS MUSIC VIDEO BEING IT'S MAIN SOURCE OF PROMOTION. How do you see this changing the general publics opinion on her at the time?

For some reason my laptop won't play the video sad.gif

If TTWE had launched Femme Fatale, i think it would have been huge!! It stuck around in the UK, but with the push of being the comeback song, i think it would have far outperformed 'Hold It Against Me' (as much as i love HIAM) as the lead. She should have released a video with both Ke$ha and Nicki for the remix too, both were doing pretty big things in the UK / globally at the time.

Subsequently i think it would have put her in a better place, with later releases from Femme Fatale. 'I Wanna Go' would have done much better. 'Criminal' is filmed in the UK (just need some kind of promotion!) In turn I think this would have helped 'Work Bitch' / 'Britney Jean', i certainly think she'd still be in the realm of getting playlisted radio-wise.

You have to see it. WHAT'S HAPPENING?

My friend Carlos makes these! He's also responsible for 'Breathe On Me' getting an almost legit video.

Also let's discuss how 'Till The World Ends' would have been a hit that rivaled even her most iconic of hits. If this was how the 'Femme Fatale' era was launched. TTWE as the first single with this video.

Literally if she slayed a choreography to peak levels instead of the lackluster performances of 'HIAM', the era would have been just as big as 'Circus'. No promo performances, just this video. Her return to form would create so much press it would sell the entire era. Keep in mind I'm comparing Britney in the FF era... not Britney now. I feel like a lot of her tides in the market began to lower. Because of her lack of enthusiasm during the entire project... well up until about the hall dancing in the Criminal video.

Do you feel that if the 'Femme Fatale' era had been handled in a better way by her team, she would still be seen as a dominating force in today's charts.

OBVIOUSLY NOT JUST THE SLAVE VIDEO REHASHED. Just take the question on the basis that these aren't scenes from her older video.

Also noted:
I'm writing a paper for finishing up a PR program I'm enrolled in. Writing a paper on sexism and ageism against women in the industry and it's level, not just on the media, but on an individual basis. Since Britney did not release a video where she looks 20 years old and doing pop culture defining choreography for the "Till The World Ends" video, I'm able to use this as a perfect scenario on how to document an individuals reaction and even compare them to reactions of the actual video.

Sorry for lack of grammar skills. Typing this on my phone while simultaneously doing school work. Thanks so much for any input. Was trying to not tell it was for a project so there wasn't that as a variable... but, pls halp thx

I think this really needed to be THAT era when she actually returned to form. The use of 'Britney's back, better than ever' was used for far too many album launches - especially for Femme Fatale. There were glimmers of that spark being there, but overall the whole campaign was lacklustre. I finally got to see her live on this tour, and as much as i absolutely loved every minute, performance wise she just wasn't there. I think overall, singles etc. (minus the switch of HIAM / TTWE) - the era wasn't handled that terribly, but her heart wasn't it.

This album could have been a pretty big campaign if she had the fire she has now. She even released FOUR singles, which (exlcuding the whole 'Circus' / 'Radar' situation) hadn't happened since.. 'Britney'?

'How I Roll' should have been a single as well.

Actually even though it peaked much lower, TTWE outsold HIAM in the UK

Personally, besides all the improvements on videos and performances, the only thing I'd change would be the 4th single choice. INSIDE OUT was begging for a release and I dont think it would've flopped the way Criminal did

Which begs the question, why wasn't it the lead! Would have sold so much more. And probably help the album sell a lot more than it did too.

I admire the record company for taking a bit of a risk by having 'Hold It Against Me' as the lead but, ultimately, it just didn't catch on. I remember both the song and video being extremely hyped up and I think the public's underwhelmed reaction probably made the media and radio reluctant to drum up that same level of hype with future releases. At the time, you had Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Ke$ha releasing huge pop anthems and you had Jennifer Lopez drop 'On the Floor' which was an all out pop banger and resurrected her career, so yeah, I think releasing 'Till the World Ends' as the lead would have definitely put Britney in a better position for the era and for her career after it. It's exactly what was popular at the time but is also what people love from Britney. It's not one of my top favourite Britney songs but it's hard to deny that it would have been a huge hit had it been released first.

I think the video we got was pretty good; I'd just have had a bit more focus on some killer choreography like you see in the 'I'm a Slave 4 U' video/the fan-made video Tyler posted.

OMG at that fan-made 'Breathe On Me' video! So damn sexy. Those 'My Prerogative' bed scenes! It's got me stanning for the song all over again

I definitely agree with the majority in here. Till the World Ends would likely have put the era in a better spot for the future, certainly as far as the UK is concerned. It managed to be a long-running hit anyway and has basically sold the same as Hold It Against Me despite a much lower peak. Goes to show that if TTWE had the hype of a comeback single with it, it could've been massive, then future singles would've had Radio 1 support too.

The music video there has much more character to it than the actual TTWE video for me. The real video is visually great but it lacks a spark, a spark that this video achieves. If she came back for a new era with this song and that video, she'd have been in great shape and I think the public could finally have started to move past the memories of her breakdown.

True. Also TTWE was ignored by Radio 1 while HIAM was A-listed. I think that's part of the reason why the peak was so low, people had to discover it.

Here in Portugal HIAM was totally ignored by radios while TTWE was her first played record since the ITZ days
