The video is AMAZING.
The song is... okay. I'll see if it grows. |

It's very Meghan Trainor second era isn't it? This is the perfect description of it for sure. I can't help but feel like this is a very odd choice of lead single. The video almost makes it work and I can almost see what she was attempting but it ends up feeling very limp and lacking in any kind of memorable hook. I don't hate it and it may grow on me but I think she is above this. |

I honestly don't get the "Meghan Trainor era 2" comparisons at all lmao . These lyrics, although hardly ivor novello worthy, are 1000x more mature and far better. I just think it's a bit of a lazy comparison tbh. Meghan didn't invent the doo wop pop sound lmao. (Which this is barely even that tbh)
Also this is majorly growing on me too. |

It's not her second era it's her first though, that had that sound. I think I get what Sean means though, this is like a step up from that sound so it's kind of what the follow-up to Title would have been had she not changed it up. It's not terrible because I enjoyed Title but I'm just not finding myself going back to it a lot.

I did admittedly feel a little bit disappointed in the chorus so I think it's like Taylors track where the chorus took time to grow on people whereas initially it wasn't as instant?
Her voice on this is so flawless as always so I think that's really what swooped in my first post about it really (& the OMG Kellys back, slay etc lol) I'm just happy we got Pink & Kelly back at basically the same time tbh! |

I really like this! It is very Meghan Trainor but that's no bad thing imo. I loved Meghan's second era.

Meghan certainly didn't invent the sound but shes the only comparison I could think of! Having that said, this is finally (but slowly) starting to click with me. It's the bits when it slows down just before the chorus that I am enjoying Leads mini singles rate: Amazing, listen to regularly Miss Independent Since U Been Gone Mr Know It All Catch My Breath Great Never Again My Life Would Suck Without You Acceptable Love So Soft Heartbeat Song Hardly listen to/meh Underneath The Tree (even at Christmas time I hardly listen to this and often forget about it as I always go back to Wrapped In Red) |

Absolutely screaming that "Piece by Piece" is outselling this by almost 10x on iTunes - such a shame that she's overshadowing her own comeback Although that is a tune and deserves a much better peak than #90 or whatever it got.

This has finally hit me, I couldn't leave Kelly out in the cold for too long It's still one of her weakest leads for me but I love them all so it's not a damnation. SUBG, My Life and Never Again are all in my top 40 of all time (maybe NA just outside). As Sean said, I adore the bit where it slows down for the chorus <3
01 Since U Been Gone (of course an ultimate belt it out ANTHEM) 02 My Life... (such anuplifting pop song) 03 Never Again (SO underrated, I love the rockiness to it but I can see why others don't like it and it wasn't the best single, but then nothing on My December was as perfect as the album is) -------- 04 Mr Know It All (again underrated, it was a nice change of pace and I adore it even if Stronger should have been the lead) 05 Catch My Breath (lovely bop, I love it more than I realise when I listen to it) 06 Miss Independent (a tune) 07 Love So Soft 08 Underneath The Treee (I'm not much of a Christmassy person in the first place so Xmas songs suffer in my rankings but this is deffo a fave Xmas song, lovely little song) 09 Heartbeat Song (a bop but I'd have chosen like 4 or 5 songs as the lead over this, although it did well in the UK so it must be doing something right) Even HS is a 8.5/10 tho oops |

Ahhh. So pleased to see it's grown on you! The slowing down before the chorus actually reminds me a fair bit of Adele - Rumour Has It. But I might be making that up as I haven't listened to that song in a while haha.
SLAYED obviously. Although THAT note, she said in a video on FB today, that she is saving the note for tour and not gonna attempt it when promoing haha. I think it's due to her having to get up early and her throat not being 100% first thing in the morning (but I believe she'd be able to hit that note whether it's 5am or 5pm ) |

I guess it's insurance too, if she went for that note all the time she might risk damaging her voice. I know Celine Dion pre-reocrds some of the more difficult notes in
a few songs, it's how she's kept her voice so strong. Obviously they can both hit these notes but it's better to be safe. |
