29th October 2017

Even later than usual this week, life is so manic I barely have time to breathe. Anyway Hurts get a second chart-topper in 3 weeks with the lovely sultry Wait Up, it's their 4th in total. Pet Shop Boys, the other prolific duo in my chart, go to 3 with the tropical laid-back gorgeousness of Between Two Islands. The tracks they didn't put on the Release album would have made a much more satisfying (if very varied) album than the actual sparse laid-back album itself.

Another duo have a big climb - Tears For Fears get a first top 20 hit with new material in 12 years, and stretch over 35 years. Highest new entry is a debut for classic album track Immigrant Song, Led Zep's banger that has never been a single, but is now featured strongly in Thor: Ragnarok to great effect and now belatedly charts here for a rare Led Zep single entry (they didn't release singles so they never qualified until I changed my rules). Marlon Roudette is back with another goodie, at 18, and Noel Gallagher pushes out his kid brother from my chart with his Mott The Hoople-ish glamstomper (It's very The Golden Age Of Rock 'n' Roll crossed with Rocky Martin's She Bangs).

Matt maltese debuts with a haunting track, as does Rex Orange County with a sweet one, and Elkie Brooks returns with another 2017 entry and 40 years on from Sunshine After The Rain going top 10.

Good to see a former Suedeonian BJSC entry from Sparks in the top ten biggrin.gif and the sublime Alone Again Or still clinging on. No sign of this month's entry though sad.gif

Seems to be fairly Pet Shop Boys-heavy but that's never a bad thing.

this Hurts slayage ohmy.gif I like Ready To Go so I should probably give their album a deeper listen, I loved them during the Happiness era!

Some great new entries this week, Holy Mountain is still an absolute blast, Loving Is Easy is v lovely indeed (my unknown pleasures entry crossing over!!) and Comic Life too- I've liked most of the Matt Maltese tracks I've heard so far ohmy.gif

Hi Simon,

thanks for dropping by!
Yes my charts are Suedonia heavy these days (quite rightly) laugh.gif

I haven't heard your new BJSC entry yet, I only just managed to get through semi 1 in time, sadly (which is why none in my charts yet until todays!), but I'm sure it's quality and I will listen to it even if it DNQ's (I always run through the whole semi before voting in the final)

cheers!

Hi Seven,

Thanks for dropping in! I actually love Hurts more as they go on, which is in direct contrast with their sales figures! ohmy.gif

I didn't get to check out the Unknown Pleasures (or enter) due to lack of time and a hectic life, but you woulda got high points from me (and I wouldnt have been remotely surprised that you entered a quality track). The only reason your BJSC track isn't also in my chart is I did my chart before I got to hear it properly (as in several times) biggrin.gif

cheers!

Hi AH!

Thanks for the long list & comments, will return the same later when I get a mo! smile.gif

Tears For Fears topping your chart, wow! Better late than never with A Different Corner biggrin.gif It's actually my all-time fave George track, the understated sincerity and image of missing the love of your life and not meeting by luck was heartbreakingly moving for me in 1986, and since...

cheers!
