It's Tears For Fears shooting up to 1, the melody finally got through to me today, fab and Roland & Curt's 4th chart-topper, Mad World, Everybody Wants To Rule The World (3 times) and Sowing The Seeds Of Love being the others. That's bad news for Bucks Fizz who were out of nowhere and the highest new entry - OK, The Fizz if we want to be picky - in at 2 with the great 80's pop sound of Amen, fighting for their 6th chart-topper a whole 31 years since the last one, and 29 years since they last made the top 10. Who woulda thought it!? I do like stats. Led Zep make the top 10 for the 3rd time, all of them long after they stopped existing at a recording unit, Whole Lotta Love hit 10 in 1997, Stairway To heaven topped my chart in 2007, and very neatly Immigrant Song makes it a satisfying decade later for a number 8. 2027 for the next one? How about a stat like...ooh, Sufjan Stevens has had just the one chart entry, Chicago in 2006 which peaked at 10 - well he equals that right off the bat 11 years on with a movie theme tune, the lovely Mystery Of Love. Number 10 next in 2028? RUFUS is the highest newish act at 21, while Written By Wolves bring some more rock into the chart, culpriit revisit Nu-Shuz I Can't Wait as a backdrop and nick another melody for a fab pop record, while Rita Ora is back after a gap - most of her recent hits have left me unimpressed, but this one has a proper hook in amongst the obligatory 2017 squiggly computer noises. Meanwhile, actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg enters at 54 with a very credible dance track, debuting at the age of 46, and may well be the longest wait ever between pop stars having a hit (naughty Je Ta'ime..Moi Non Plus topped my charts in January 1975 for her parents Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin) and a daughter entering my charts. She was 4 at the time. There's still time for Sean Lennon to take that record - his parents topped my chart in 1969, just before Charlotte's topped the UK chart. 1 14 1 4 I LOVE YOU BUT I’M LOST Tears For Fears 228500 2 NEW 2 1 AMEN The Fizz 115000 3 1 1 6 WAIT UP Hurts 533000 4 4 1 6 MAGNIFICENT Hurts 700000 5 2 1 9 MY KINGDOM (WILLIAM BLACK REMIX) Evangeline 735650 6 3 3 4 BETWEEN TWO ISLANDS Pet Shop Boys 207000 7 5 3 6 READY TO GO Hurts 390000 8 12 8 2 IMMIGRANT SONG Led Zeppelin 83000 9 7 1 10 CRYBABY Paloma Faith 770000 10 NEW 10 1 MYSTERY OF LOVE Sufjan Stevens 42000 11 6 4 5 GO 2.0 Burak Yeter & Ryan Rybak 224300 12 8 8 7 BEST FRIEND Sofi Tukker featuring NERVO, The Knocks & Alisa Ueno 228150 13 10 10 4 SEXY NORTHERNER Pet Shop Boys 115750 14 16 14 8 LIFE WITH THE MACBETHS Sparks 146600 15 15 15 13 BOTH SIDES NOW Glen Campbell 235000 16 23 16 2 HOLY MOUNTAIN Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds 44250 17 11 1 9 FOOTSTEPS Pet Shop Boys 815000 18 18 18 2 ULTRA LOVE Marlon Roudette 44000 19 9 9 8 EDITH PIAF (SAID IT BETTER THAN ME) Sparks 207350 20 20 20 4 LOVE HURTS Roy Orbison & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra 71900 21 NEW 21 1 YOU WERE RIGHT RUFUS 19750 22 32 22 2 COMIC LIFE Matt Maltese 37300 23 13 3 9 CLOSER TO HEAVEN Pet Shop Boys 391950 24 21 6 12 GET LOW Zedd & Liam Payne 367500 25 25 25 9 DO IT AGAIN Steely Dan 139500 26 17 3 13 DRINK UP Train 603500 27 NEW 27 1 TIMEBOMBS HURRICANES Written By Wolves 18400 28 19 19 6 BEAUTIFUL TRAUMA P!nk 107900 29 29 29 3 A DIFFERENT CORNER George Michael 53500 30 22 14 10 ALL STARS Martin Solveig featuring Alma 191900 31 NEW 31 1 DRIVEWAY culpriit 17900 32 24 13 9 DUSK TILL DAWN ZAYN featuring Sia 192200 33 37 33 4 EVERYTHING IS NEVER ENOUGH (VIDEO MIX) Goldfrapp 51600 34 34 34 3 PRAYING FOR TIME George Michael 46200 35 26 10 6 CLOSE TO YOU ARLE 166900 36 38 36 4 OH, PRETTY WOMAN Roy Orbison & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra 57550 37 50 37 4 SAY A PRAYER TIEKS featuring Chaka Khan & Popcaan 44500 38 NEW 38 1 JEALOUS (I AIN’T WITH IT) Chromeo 17200 39 46 39 2 RISING COST OF LOVE Elkie Brooks 29850 40 27 19 5 WORD UP The BossHoss 96400 41 30 30 5 SPENT THE DAY IN BED Morrissey 78000 42 28 8 13 I HEAR YOU CALLING DJ Licious 304350 43 33 33 7 ILL RAY (THE KING) Kasabian 75700 44 NEW 44 1 ANYWHERE Rita Ora 13250 45 54 45 3 ROBOT MAN Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark 30800 46 31 10 12 RUN FOR COVER The Killers 254400 47 39 1 16 STILL FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME Zoot Woman featuring Kylie Minogue 851600 48 42 1 17 TRUE FEELING Galantis 942850 49 58 49 2 LOVING IS EASY Rex Orange County featuring Benny Sings 22300 50 44 44 7 HAVANA Camila Cabello featuring Young Thug 59250 51 35 12 10 TALL THIN MEN Pet Shop Boys 242000 52 45 6 11 LIKE AN ANGEL PASSING THROUGH MY ROOM Madonna 306450 53 51 1 18 DREAMS Grace Slick 634100 54 NEW 54 1 DEADLY VALENTINE Charlotte Gainsbourg 11000 55 55 1 19 TWO FUX Adam Lambert 1053600 56 40 4 14 MORE MESS Kungs featuring Olly Murs & Coely 532050 57 36 36 5 KAAMOS Tom Fall 66750 58 48 48 3 FREEDOM ’90 George Michael 28900 59 41 7 13 NEW RULES Dua Lipa 305850 60 NEW 60 1 PART X1V Prequell featuring Rae Morris 10000 61 49 10 13 WHAT ABOUT US P!nk 278100 62 56 56 3 SILENCE Marshmello featuring Khalid 28100 63 65 63 3 FATHER FIGURE George Michael 21200 64 63 1 34 ALONE AGAIN OR Love 971950 65 67 65 2 SAVOIR FAIRE Beth Ditto 13600 66 70 66 2 HOW LONG Charlie Puth 12800 67 60 60 6 HEROES David Bowie 44800 68 43 18 9 FANTASY George Michael featuring Nile Rodgers 163650 69 68 1 21 SUMMER WINE Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood 823900 70 47 14 8 WALK ON WATER Thirty Seconds To Mars 149100 71 53 19 15 POWER Little Mix featuring Stormzy 226300 72 NEW 72 1 WHEN WE WERE HIGH LP 5600 73 52 27 10 SWINGIN’ WITH MY EYES CLOSED Shania Twain 148200 74 59 9 13 HOLDING ON Dannii Minogue featuring Jason Heerah 259600 75 NEW 75 1 SPACE AGE LOVE SONG A Flock Of Seagulls 5000 DROP OUTS 57 35 4 END OF THE LINE The Traveling Wilburys 58000 61 8 20 SWISH SWISH Katy Perry featuring Nicki Minaj 404600 62 8 15 ROCKIN’ The Weeknd 364750 64 13 11 REGGAETON LENTO CNCO & Little Mix 221550 66 50 6 MORE THAN FRIENDS James Hype featuring Kelli-Leigh 51000 69 33 9 DARK NIGHTS Dorothy 125300 71 71 2 I KNEW YOU WERE WAITING (FOR ME) George Michael and Aretha Franklin 11600 72 72 4 NOBODYS CHILD The Traveling Wilburys 21600 73 73 2 FAITH George Michael 10800 74 53 5 I THINK IT’S STUPID BUT I THINK IT’S LOVE The RPM’s 39550 75 8 16 I’LL BE AROUND Empire Of The Sun 381200 comments on others chart to follow tomorrow when i get time... |

Previous Bucks Fizz's single still have a good chances for my # 1 of 2017, but somebody also did a comeback : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vec4jNVhbs
Based on this fact "Amen" was dethroned after only 1 week at # 1. "Amen" became 10th number # 1 single for Bucks Fizz in my chart and 12th number one for Cheryl Baker (one solo + "The Bad Old Days"). |

Hi Alex, I dont know that act you linked Thanks for reminding about The Fizz, I love that new single and must check out more of the album. Totally unexpected comeback for me, and I have seen them 3 times in concert (sadly not Jay Aston though) it was 1986-1990-ish. Always put on a great show. cheers! john |

I dont know that act you linked John, are you joking ? After many number of my comments about them here, on Haven and two most popular Eurovision forums in last 4 years. It's very hard to avoid YVA. YVA is my all-time # 1 favourite group. YVA is the most popular Lithuanian group, mostly known for Europeans as a particapant of 2 national pre-selections for Eurovision Song Contest with "Barbie" (2005) and "I Dangu" (2009). YVA is a sexy trio of lead singer Natalija Zvonke (now Bunke), her sister Kristina Ivanova and Goda Sabutyte. "YVA" (Ypatingai Viliojanti Atrakcija) is an abriveatura, on English it means Extremely Seductive Attraction. Formed in 2003, YVA got their big breakthrough in 2005, when their song "Berniukams" (and debut album of the same title) caused mass hysteria in Lithuania, becoming the biggest hit of the summer. YVA based their success on combination of infectious uptempo pop songs and self promotion. Natalija is probably the most recognizable face of current Lithuanian pop culture – she takes part in most of the main music events and never denies an interview. YVA released 4 albums and a compilation of their greatest hits. After YVA's split in 2010 Natalija Bunke was a solo singer ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTITKT1fmy0 ) and a member of girl group Pop Ladies. Kristina and Goda also were involved in some other music projects in Lithuania. In the end of 2016 YVA did a comeback on Lithuanian pop scene with all their original members Natalija, Kristina, Goda. They even had some concerts in London clubs. "Kaukes" (Masks) is their first new song after 7 years of fans' waiting. Their comeback / news thread on Haven : http://fatherandy2.proboards.com/thread/88...kes-finally-new Buzzjack thread for new song : http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=206596 Also you can check my top 100 songs of 2009 (with Youtube links for all songs) here or on Haven forum. It was very successful year for YVA. In summary it's very original and interesting selection with a lot of low-known songs. http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=204875 This post has been edited by Good Old Days: 7th November 2017, 06:52 AM |

Bit late commenting on this
The Tears For Fears song is indeed a good tune although I'm not sure it's up to the standard of a lot of their first album. I actually quite like the Fizz song too Good to see Flock Of Seagulls joining the retro tracks as well. Is it just me or does the Noel Gallagher track remind you of Plastic Bertrand's Ça Plane Pour Moi? There is, of course, also more than a passing resemblance to Get Off Of My Cloud. Hope he doesn't suffer from a case of Verve syndrome. On the parent / child them, did Sonny and Cher ever top your chart? Perhaps their daughter will record something |

Led Zep is heavily featured in the new Thor film to great effect, so it's given the track a boost, yay! Doh! Over RUFUS... I've made some very poor decisions this year on tracks - I couldve sent Portugal. The Man, Kideko, Elizabeth Taylor, among many that would have stopped me DNQ'ing but I opted for others instead Zedd & P!nk! Snap! Father Figure is great, yes, it peaked at 2 in my chart first time round so this is just a little mini-boost to its "sales" totals cheers! John |

Just saw OMD at Soton, fab, the new stuff mostly fit in pretty well with the old stuff, so expect a mini-OMD invasion later today including one track I never charted that you love and picked up on before me I'm at you liking The Fizz song (but well done anyway!) I hadn't noticed the Plastic Bertrand or Get Off My Cloud similarities, but I spotted Mott The Hoople right off (All The Way from Memphis/Roll Away The Stone) right down to the horn section riffs, and the total rip-off of the hook to Ricky Martin's She Bangs - though I expect you're right he was more likely nicking Cloud than Martin Sonny & Cher did indeed top my chart back in 1972 (All I Ever Need Is You), though Chastity is Chas these days and if he ever recorded anything that would in itself be a couple of records! Cheers! John |
