Hmm... Phantom Thread pulling a couple of surprises over some more obvious contenders. Surprised at Daniel actually getting a nom for Get Out though...I don't get the huge acting award noms for that film tbh. Didn't really strike me as "awards worthy" but ehhhh.

SUFJAN
Great to see Loving Vincent there too and glad Three Billboards received a lot, that’s definitely my favourite of the year so far. Can’t wait to see ‘The Shape of Water’, looks incredible. |

I'm not shocked at the lack of 'The Florida Project' tbh. In fact, it's the only category that it deserves the nomination haha #UnpopularOpinion
The Post being snubbed for as much as it is, is surprising. Definitely thought Spielberg was one of the dead certs for director at least. But I kinda half expected T Hanks to get snubbed. Just by the trailers I'm not convinced it's an award worthy performance. --- Yay for CMBYN getting as much recognition as it has, although again, Director snub is surprising. Would've thought that'd have been one that was more or less set in stone. Sufjan getting original song nomination is good to see, even if the song didn't do much for me personally. It is a nice song though. I hope 'This Is Me' gets it, but I imagine it's a two horse race between those two and we get to see them performed on the night Yeah, REALLY excited for 'The Shape Of Water'. Can't believer we've had to wait so long for it though |

Oscar nominee Greta Gerwig though *.*
Thought Jessica and James would be certs, especially James who won the Golden Globe. Although Aaron Taylor Johnson missed out for Nocturnal Animals. |

I think James would've made it if it wasn't for the allegations coming out during the oscar voting period. I'm surprised it was Washington though that made it and not Hanks, I find Hanks so underrated in the post and he really deserved to get in
I'm not surprised at the post doing really bad. I only predicted it for four noms (with Hanks and score both in 5th), I think I said to Josh that I thought it would do really similar to Selma in the end which it seems to have done I'm low-key annoyed that the best pic wildcard spots ended up being darkest hour and phantom thread. I was rooting so much for the Florida Project, the big sick and I Tonya. I wish the latter got in so Margot would get a best pic nom + all 5 leading actresses would be for a film nominated in best picture this year TFP I don't rly have any more to say than I think that certifies Dafoe isn't winning I'm glad TBS made it into screenplay but I'm crying over the Hunter snub, she so deserved that nomination and I'd be shocked if she wasn't 6th considering TBS made script over the post and I Tonya. Actress turned out to be the obvious five in the end after all that talk about how there would have to be a shock somewhere in there I'm shocked mudbound did so well, I didn't think Oscars would get over there Netflix bias so quickly so that's a massive win for Netflix. I predicted 5/5 for supporting actor, I had a feeling CMBYN was gonna miss that category completely ever since the SAG noms. Yasss at baby driver slaying in techs, this is me making best song, screaming at boss baby actually getting into animation and I had a feeling one of the big films of the year was going to get that last adapted screenplay nod! And where the actual f*** did that phantom thread director nom come from???? Shocked McDonagh was snubbed and both Peele/Gerwig got in |

Ahhh. I didn't see Armie wasn't in "Supporting Actor" That's a huge loss to that category and only confirms and guarantees Sam Rockwell's win imo (which would still be a brilliant outcome/my first choice anyway).

Those James alligations were from YEARS ago and were put to bed I hate how they get sorted and he can move on with his life until something like this happens and suddenly he's a monster.

BEST ANIMATED FILM > THE BOSS BABY > THE BREADWINNER > COCO > FERDINAND > LOVING VINCENT SCREAMING AT THE BOSS BABY AND FERDINAND !!! NO LEGO MOVIES This is just insulting. Not sure if 'Your Name' was eligible for this year or last year with how it works but 'A Silent Voice' was definitely eligible and to get... whatever that Boss Baby thing is over it is really kind of ridiculous when you consider this is an awards session, supposed to highlight the more niche films. Animation can be a viable medium that isn't just for kids etc etc (although to be fair, googling The Breadwinner, Loving Vincent and Coco, those seem totally legit films to be on there) Actually, I've just found the list of films submitted. They had ASV and In This Corner Of The World, and even Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale would have made the animation category look less of a joke. Or the Lego Movies. I'm sorry, who made these choices? |
