QUOTE("Radio 2") This Easter, as part of BBC Radio 2’s commitment to celebrating the UK’s musical cultural heritage, the station will broadcast four programmes to celebrate the 70th birthday of one of Britain’s most successful composers, Andrew Lloyd Webber. Melanie C, who played Mary Magdalene in the hit 2012 arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, will present the story of this hit rock opera from the early seventies that shot Andrew Lloyd Webber to fame. The Superstar Story will see contributions from performers, producers, directors and critics including Tony Hadley, Murray Head, Paul Nicholas, Marcia Hines, Cameron Mackintosh, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber himself. Melanie C says: “I am really looking forward to telling the story of this fantastic musical, which I love, for Andrew Lloyd Webber's 70th birthday celebrations on BBC Radio 2.” The Superstar Story, presented by Melanie C, will be broadcast on Sunday 1 April (7-9pm). To promote the upcoming show, Melanie was on the phone on Radio 2, talking about Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, presenting on the radio, and then they played a blast from the past - the wonderful acoustic version of Next Best Superstar. What a treat it was! Listen here (skip to the 32:15 mark) - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09wg0d8 This post has been edited by Voodoo: 30th March 2018, 11:25 AM |

Great & insightful interview! I've extracted the bits about her future plans: We also loved your last album, Version of Me. Any plans for a new release? Yes, it’s going very well and I’m very excited. I’m working with a fantastic producer and having a lot of fun in the studio. I can’t say too much at the moment – I’m keeping my cards close to my chest. But it’s something I hope to release later this year. All I can say it’s going to be different to Version of Me. As you know I like to jump from one thing to the next. It’s very musical, not like musical theatre, but it has a real musicality to it. I’m working with a respected producer and I think it’ll be a nice surprise that people will enjoy. Rumour has it you’re also becoming a DJ. What’s this all about? Being a lover of music, I’ve always quite fancied it. Somebody approached me to see if I’d want to do it, and I thought, ‘you know what, I’ll give it a try’. It’s been really fun figuring out what I want to play and how I want to be as a DJ. And the era of music that’s really relevant to me, and there were so many great styles, is obviously the nineties. So I’ve been working on a nineties set, which is great, because it kind of spans dance music, more poppy stuff right through to clubby hard-core house and Britpop. It’s been really fun getting the dynamic of the set together, so that’s what I’ve been working on. My first DJ gig is in Paris next week. I’m nervous obviously, but if it goes well, I’ll hopefully do a lot more in the future. It’s really fun and another string to my bow. Girl, if Paris Hilton can do it, we’re pretty sure you’ll do just fine. [Bursts out laughing] Yeah… Many of your fans have noticed that you’ve gone a bit quiet on social media lately. Why is that? I had a really busy year last year, and this year I’ve been in the studio with the new album. I just wanted to take a break and give myself a little bit of a breather from social media. I sometimes find it a bit time consuming. I just wanted to step away for a little bit and come back fresh when I’m ready to start promoting my new work. DJ-ing is interesting hope it pans out well for her as it can pay nicely and also as she says is another 'music' related string to her bow alongside singing and musical theatre. She truly is Music Spice in the re-invented Spice for now nicknames

Dj-ing at the level she will be doing is 1 step above being a wedding singer.
I'm always amazed Mel bangs on about the spice girls legacy when she does such low brow solo stuff like Asia Got Talent, dj-ing and a fill in radio presenter. |

Melanie clearly knows that herself on her own is not Spice Girls. Her career (as with all the other 4) is a world away from the band, however all 5 have kept their name out their to various degrees so all credit to them. The likes of other massive bands of the past have not or did not manage to do that. Look at Take That during their obscure years... |

She played for over an hour nineties hits from the Spice, Daft Punk, Ginuwine, Nirvana, Oasis, Robin S... and some other house, techno, rock classics. It was a fun, very upbeat set and Mel looked on top form.
