Okay I was with you until you placed the magical "Amar Pelos Dois" one place higher than the hilariously awful "They Can't Stop The Spring".
"Un Blodymary" was un blodymess wasn't it? |

Sorry I just really don't get the hype behind Salvador. I honestly don't understand how this song won in 2017 when there were SO many superior songs. It's just SO boring I literally cannot bear listening to it the whole way through lmao.

If it was really just a boring song then it wouldn't have come anywhere near winning for a country that had never even had a top 3 finish in nearly half a decade.
On this occasion I think it's you missing the magic somehow Maybe you'll find it eventually! Move swiftly on to the next block of 5 to avoid any more embarrassment hahaha! |

Dervish will no doubt be Top 50 on my list. Way too amazing and even that unfortunately ~tuneless~ performance cannot change it.

I'm not sure about top 50 but I'd put it maybe in top 200 and certainly one of Ireland's best basically because it's not a dirge. Salvador, I'm somewhat with you on that Jafet, I really don't get how it can be so loved, it's just rather twee, certainly background-esque as you said and it doesn't really conjure up any feelings in me at all. |

I occasionally listen to the studio version of They Can't Stop The Spring, it's perfectly lovely for what it is. I'm always going to like anything trad Irish.
Her live vocals though...that point they got in the final was one too many, woeful. You still get the impression it would have been a top five 10 years earlier though, the 90s juries would have been all over it. I actually voted for C'est Ma Vie in its semi-final, can't remember exactly why now but it's still pleasant to me. And I really like Amar Pelos Dois, it's all rather lovely in a La La Land jazz bar scene sort of way. Guess those Disney-esque songs will always hook me in. Are we listening to the same "They Can't Stop The Spring"? Top 50 from 1999-2017? Have a laugh

That Belgian entry was truly horrific! It made my ears bleed.
The Estonian one I found middling from that contest - at the time anyway - not sure how I'd feel now! |

Love Power is dreadful, argh Belgium were so awful for so long.
I don't mind 80s Coming Back but not disappointed to see it this low! Without You seemed to be pulling the same trick as Extreme's More Than Words, but it's nowhere near as strong a song. It came 6th in the semi-final somehow and then tanked in the final thankfully, not sure where its semi support went in the space of a few days. |

An interesting batch! Can't really argue with "Boom Boom" or "My Turn" - thankfully Czech Republic have FINALLY gotten it with this year's entry. Though let's see what they send next year. If you put all of Czech Republic and Slovakia's entries in a playlist you'd probably continue to think "wtf". (I do love "I Stand" though!)
Did you really think "Tomorrow" could win?! I never saw that coming at all; I was actually shocked it even managed to come top 10. Generic AF. "Wolves Of The Sea" was novelty fun though I understand totally why it would be hated. If it was an entry now, I'd just glaze over it tbh. |

Yeah I actually did think it could win and wasn't surprised that people voted the cute guy with the Jason Mraz-ish song (people are suckers for Jason Mraz, just look at the chart runs for I Won't Give Up and I'm Yours) and I would have HATED it if it won. I guess the main reason for my hate towards WOTS is because of the striking similarity to the song in the icelandic national final (which was revealed - IIRC - in november 2007 while the latvian one seems to have been revealed in march 2008 so......). Just listen to it: Not to say that this isn't complete garbage as well but the fact still remains it really feels like Latvia got some inspiration from Iceland lol. Imagine how awk it would be if both had been chosen to represent their countries lol. Iceland and Latvia were even in the same semi lmao. |

That's really interesting about that Icelandic NF song, it does sound nearly the same. Wolves Of The Sea, I really feel there's a lot of charm to it and I've listened to it many times outside of the contest, it's just a really fun song.
Tomorrow I ended up falling for with the performance, it went completely past me until then, placing it on the decent side of radio-pop. My Turn is boring trash, glad to see that one out. |

Omg, I do totally see where you're coming from I think the Latvian one is more commercial and fun but just imagine those competing together
