3rd June 2018

It's a first week on top for Panic! At The Disco's first chart-topper, I had High Hopes it would do well! Fab. If only tracks like this made the singles chart. No chance, Spotify would explode... Meanwhile highest new entry is Gorillaz with a bit of George Benson help in at 16. I always love the variety of acts they use/collaborate with, and George Benson first charted here in 1975, kick-starting a long run of mostly-jazz-disco entries for a decade or so. This is his first mention for well over 25 years...

Talking of 1975, Judy Collins A Little Night Music musical cover version of Send In The Clowns did well that year, and it's finally back again as a song for Faultline and Lisa Hannigan, currently backdropping a horrible car advert, but showcasing this fab version. Kylie's got another single - none of the ones I'd wanted as next choice, but it's a goodie anyway, fits in with her 50th, and Kylie usually doesn't pick my preferred album tracks.

Florida Georgia Line return solo, as their big collaboration drops out, in at 25, Sparks enter at 36 with the track they started their set with last Bank Holiday Monday when I finally saw them in concert. I'm not exaggerating when I say I instantly went mad on them in 1974, have admired them throughout their ongoing career, and loved the concert (I was near the front singing along to their recent stuff - not many others were!). Still got it, and I've waited a whopping 44 years to see them, and now a 44-year career span of new material. Not bad for a couple of one-time American art-glam-rockers.

All saints are back! 21 years chart-span on and off, and 2 years after their last top 10 - UK chart flop so I wasnt optimistic there'd be another release, but hooray there is. Rick Astley has a cover of the All Seeing I and Tony Christie 90's cult-goodie for a new Brit movie. It's soundalike but good. It's 5 years since Celine Dion popped up in my charts, but a bit of Deadpool2 action is enough to convince me, giving her 28 years of chart action, while Gabrielle is also back after a 5-year gap, and a chart span of 25 years!

Hi John!

Nice to see Panic Room enter - I should give it more of a listen, it sounded very Cola-y on first listen but great to see it becoming popular!

Rise sounded nice as well on first listen, hope it can get Jonas another hit biggrin.gif

Girlfriend sounded interesting on first listen also, very different from Tilted but I'm sure it could grow

Great chart biggrin.gif

Hey there John hi.gif heart.gif

Really glad to see 'Girlfriend' debuting in your chart! Christine and the Queens can do no wrong it seems. Also pleased to see 'Humility' making it here, I'm impressed with all three of the Gorillaz songs from this new era so far but that is my favourite one as well.

Great stuff happy.gif

Hi Pete! smile.gif

Panic Room is worth re-listening to, the rhythms underlying it are fab and subtle and moor-ish

Rise sounds like a hit to me, its got that "now" sound that is all over the official chart, Girlfriend less so, but it's nice.

cheers!

heya Tombo! smile.gif

I can't get over how long my chart has been running either laugh.gif I still love new music too much to ever stop I think! I'm guessing I hold the world record for continuous personal charting (give or take the odd repeat-week due to life issues) at (gasp!) 44 and a half years, mostly-continuous at 47 years, and span from my first-ever personal chart age 10 at 50 years, oops! I thought I'd invented it as I never met anyone in my whole life that did their own charts till I came on Buzzjack ohmy.gif Turns out there are other music chart fans, who knew?! laugh.gif

cheers!

Golden by Kylie is a catchy song.
The Sparks are not as catchy as during the 70's.
All Saint is great

All new tracks in your bottom half have my approval biggrin.gif

Hi Sven! smile.gif

Thanks for the liking of the new tracks, All saints is a goodie. Kylie's golden is as country catchy as most of the tracks on her album, she certainly has found a new niche appeal!

cheers!

Hey Jude, I mean Jade (sorry couldn't resist the Beatles ref I know you like 'em laugh.gif )

Christine is so cool, I wouldnt be surprised if she influenced Ria Mae a bit, she has the same EDM coolness about her. I like all 3 new Gorillaz songs too, they seem very low-key compared to previous ones so it will interesting to see how the album does with their fans. The great thing about Damien is his musical unpredictability, keeps it new!

cheers!
