YouTube Music streams I’m guessing - which should definitely count towards the charts.

Yeah, he's well known in the music industry, used to come up with a lot of scoops in Record of the Day magazine. He'll have heard it from somewhere (rather than just trolling). July 1st is a Sunday though so he might have the date wrong.

Well this was inevitable really. The Chart is a dynamic, ever-changing animal now.

He must have heard that about "YouTube" counting towards the charts before they announced the launch of YouTube Music so he must have misinterpreted that. If YouTube video views were going to count then the OCC would have released a press release well in advance. I'm pretty sure the OCC wouldn't count YouTube video views towards the charts anyway as it's not always someone listening to music (just think how long Gangnam Style would have been #1 if it did )
There is a reason that being a #1 in the UK has always been a big deal compared to other places and that's because the OCC didn't do stupid things like count airplay or YouTube views which don't necessarily represent whether people actually like a particular song like things like the Billboard charts have done. |

It's linked to the launch of YouTube Music, a subscription service, which is a YT streaming service akin to Spotify and Apple Music. Normal YT video streams won't be included. Shame though, as my watching of Newcastle United videos would be interesting if they were to chart due to the same background music being used!

But some people do use YouTube has a primary source of listening to music. Also as far as I can tell YouTube Music is just the Music tab in YouTube expanded and organised a lot. Most of the music you listen to is music videos it's just a lot cleaner than the actual YouTube app. I don't think only counting streams from this app should count towards the chart yet streaming directly from YouTube doesn't - even if its the same video. If you listen to Gangnam Style in YT Music, its the exact same thing as listening to it on regular old YT. This also brings back the whole thing about a "single package" including the music video. Often times a music video can make you change your opinion on a song, so why shouldn't it count towards the chart? It's still the song it just has bonus visuals and sometimes extra bits thrown in. The OCC is almost as inconsistent as ARIA This post has been edited by Dexton: 21st June 2018, 02:22 AM |

but their streaming service is primarily video streaming, no? From what I saw (I was on the app the other day and it directed me to a link to download YouTube Music) it is an audio streaming thing - and costs £12.99(!!!) per month. It did seem to have an interesting function where it would find the song you want to listen to if you type out lyrics or explain the song though (not sure how that would work, sounds very smart)... |

It’s still just video streaming though. Only it’s limited to music Youtube videos. All the songs available are already available on the regular Youtube (and I mean all, not just MVs). It’s just the same as YouTube Red That said I do like the whole “what is this song” mechanic. It looks as if you can type “bLLOOody sHooOes” and be directed to Bodak Yellow which is a cool idea - even if it is just skipping the part where you Google the lyrics and find the song that way |

I'd totally get behind YT streams in the chart if it gave El Chombo another official top 100 hit *_*
alas, 'Dame tu Cosita' is only at #71 in the YouTube chart so it would be unlikely. |

It did seem to have an interesting function where it would find the song you want to listen to if you type out lyrics or explain the song though (not sure how that would work, sounds very smart)... Youtube has already been doing this for years. Definitely since 2014. There was a song called Rich Gang - Lifestyle, which a lot of people found funny because half of it was complete gibberish (and this was back when "mumble rap" wasn't so common yet). Then people found out that if you typed "Song that makes no sense" or "Song that sounds like gibberish" into Youtube then Rich Gang - Lifestyle would be the first result. So Youtube has definitely been doing this since 2014. Type in things like: 'Is all it takes' - Gives you One Kiss 'Square root of 69' - Gives you What's My Name? 'Song that samples Lauryn Hill' - Gives you Nice For What 'Annoying amphibian' - Gives you Axel F 'Spanish song' - Gives you Despacito |

Oh wow, it's true - if you type 'mediocre overrated generic eurovision flop' you get Fuego by Eleni Foureira.

Also if you knew the lyrics you could Google it and it'd come on that's not really that special or worth paying more than Spotify for tbh
