BMG used to own RCA when they released the Westlife albums and stuff, but I presume they're only counting the more recent incarnation of the label which does specialise in "veteran" acts including Rick Astley as you said - also Morrissey, Gary Numan, Erasure etc.

Yeah, I think it should at least match Adele. I imagine once Mamma Mia comes out that will be the end of its run, but time will tell. Mamma Mia probably won’t do so well on streaming in comparison to TGS.

The majority of people going to watch the film don’t follow new releases and only pay attention when the movie is out, or they hear the songs on radio. ABBA Gold and the Mamma Mia 1 soundtrack are already back in the album chart, so the demand is there. Whether a big hit comes from the film, probably not, but that’s not what the point of soundtracks like the Mamma Mia one. |

None of the ABBA Songs from the 1st 'Mamma Mia!' Film were big Hits. It is pointless, to try to guess whether Film 2, and its Soundtrack, will be successful, based on how well, (or badly), any 'Singles' from the Film do. In 2008, the 2 biggest UK 'Singles' from Film 1, were Amanda Seyfried & Friends versions of 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!' and 'Honey Honey'. The 1st got no higher than No.91 and the 2nd stalled at No.61. (In the USA, the biggest 'Single' from Film 1 was 'Dancing Queen', by Meryl Streep, and that only reached No.99 in the Hot 100). It didn't stop the Film becoming the 'All Time' biggest Box Office success in the UK. Nor the Soundtrack reaching No.1 in the Compilation Chart for 11 Weeks & the Soundtrack Chart for 30+ Weeks. The Soundtrack is now on over 1,500,000 UK Sales, over 1,800,000 USA Sales & over 7,700,000 Global Sales. In November 2008 the DVD of Film 1 was released. It sold just under 1,670,000 on Day 1 in the UK - almost 3,200,000 in Week 1. It eventually sold over 5 Million in the UK. In the USA it sold 2,250,000 on Day 1. This is despite none of the 'Singles' from the Film being big Hits. Likewise - the 2nd Film and Soundtrack will be a success, no matter how 'small' the 'Singles' from it are. It does not need the 'Singles' off it to be big, any more than Film 1 did in 2008... |

I think once the film is out we'll see some of the singles start to do kinda well, like top 75 for a few weeks, now that streaming exists and people will be streaming the soundtrack like they are still doing with The Greatest Showman, though I don't expect the soundtrack to have quite the impact TGS had.
