960. “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” by Beyoncé — 174.021 points

  • Release Date: 29. November, 2008
  • Chart Peak: #07 (in 2009)
  • Weeks on Chart: 77 weeks
  • Year-End 2010: #189
  • Year-End 2011: #391
Possibly one of Queen B’s most iconic songs ever thanks to the simple yet intriguing music video. “Single Ladies” was released as the joint first single off of Beyoncé’s third studio album “I Am.. Sasha Fierce” alongside “If I Were A Boy”. The song never actually hit the Top 40 in the 2010s but it’s still spent a staggering 27 weeks lingering in the Top 100, accumulating over 170k points just in 2010 and 2011. The estimate for this song is 1.349k points to date, easily making it one of Beyoncé’s biggest tracks ever.

Top 40 Chart Run: ”Single Ladies” never entered the Top 40 in the 2010s.

957. “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay — 174.768 points

  • Release Date: 28. June, 2006
  • Chart Peak: #01 (in 2008)
  • Weeks on Chart: 76 weeks
  • Year-End 2010: #373
  • Year-End 2011: #326
  • Year-End 2013: #402
  • Year-End 2016: #406
  • Year-End 2017: #342
One of Coldplay’s biggest hits ever (if not the biggest hit they’ve ever had) was released around this time exactly 10 years ago and it’s recurring sales pattern definitely reflects that. “Viva La Vida” was released as the second single of Coldplay’s fourth album “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends” and it debuted directly at #1. The song has since reappeared on the chart very regularly and has so far spent 25 weeks in the Top 100 of this decade, most recently in 2017. I estimate their total points to date at as staggeringly high as 1895k pts.

Top 40 Chart Run (09/06/2017): 39

Coldplay Top 2000 entries:
“A Sky Full Of Stars” (#09, 2014)
“Adventure Of A Lifetime” (#07, 2015)
“Christmas Lights” (#13, 2010)
“Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” (#06, 2011)

1537. “Everglow” (#28, 2015) [69k]
1722. “Up&Up” (#37, 2016) [53k]

953. “Bad Boys” by Alexandra Burke featuring Flo Rida — 176.316 points

  • Release Date: 24. October, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #01 (in 2009)
  • Weeks on Chart: 27 weeks
  • Year-End 2010: #152
Burke’s proper debut single after winning the X Factor in 2008 as well as the lead single from her debut album “Overcome”, “Bad Boys” was a proper hit and would pave the road for numerous hits to follow from that same album. Her career didn’t last long after that however, as her second album flopped and only delivered one “hit” single (which failed to make the Top 1000). This song features rent-a-rapper Flo Rida who himself has 9 hits in the Top 1000 this year. “Bad Boys” has an estimated total score of 773k points to date.

Top 40 Chart Run (02/01/2010): ..-25-12-27-34-35-39

Alexandra Burke Top 2000 entries:

1704. “The Silence” (#16, 2010) [55k]

Flo Rida Top 2000 entries:
“Club Can’t Handle Me” (#01, 2010)
“GDFR” (#02, 2015)
“Good Feeling” (#01, 2011)

938. “Doesn’t Mean Anything” by Alicia Keys — 183.203 points

  • Release Date: 12. December, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #08 (in 2009)
  • Weeks on Chart: 18 weeks
  • Year-End 2010: #142
This is a tricky one. It feels like it might belong on the 2010s list because it was released so late but then again it had received some airplay before being released so I’m filing this one as 2009. “Doesn’t Mean Anything” was the lead single on Keys’ fourth studio album “The Element of Freedom” and spent two weeks in the Top 10 before taking a bit of a tumble and then stabilizing for a while in the Top 30. The song spent 11 weeks in total in the Top 40 and has sold upwards of 308k to date.

Top 40 Chart Run (02/01/2010): ..-16-25-24-27-32-23-27-36

Alicia Keys Top 2000 entries:
“Empire State Of Mind (Part II): Broken Down” (#04, 2010)
“Girl On Fire” (#05, 2012)
“Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart” (#07, 2010)

1586. “It’s On Again” (#31, 2014) [65k]

You might need to put that phrase in big, bold, capital letters!

(And I'm actually being serious, becauase this is 1,000 songs long, you could get asked this question 30 times).

I like the countdown btw. Your formula seems to be fairly good so far as well.

Thanks, you’re right. I do probably need to make it more apparent, but still it’s not much to ask that readers at least know what they’re commenting on before they do so. Especially when those comments suggest the OP has absolutely no idea what they’re doing.

I don't remember that Alicia Keys song at all! First one I don't know.

I kinda wish there was still a sales chart countdown somewhere on the radio, that would be a great listen with actual new songs all the time.

920. “End Credits” by Chase & Status featuring Plan B — 187.846 points

  • Release Date: 14. November, 2008
  • Chart Peak: #09 (in 2009)
  • Weeks on Chart: 36 weeks
  • Year-End 2010: #215
  • Year-End 2011: #254
The lead single from Chase & Status' second studio album "No More Idols" which I think is generally perceived as their breakthrough album and this as their breakthrough single. More interestingly this is also the first time we hear Plan B in the Top 40, something he would manage to do on his own six more times in the next three years. "End Credits", by many considered Chase & Status' best song, has an estimated 419k points total to date.

Top 40 Chart Run: ”End Credits” never entered the Top 40 in the 2010s.

Chase & Status Top 2000 entries:
”Blind Faith” (#05, 2011)
”Lost & Not Found” (#09, 2013)

1453. ”All Goes Wrong” (#32, 2016) [77k]
1590. ”Hitz” (#39, 2011) [65k]
1963. ”Spoken Word” (#32, 2016) [39k]

914. “Where Is The Love?” by Black Eyed Peas — 189.474 points

  • Release Date: 30. August, 2003
  • Chart Peak: #01 (in 2003)
  • Weeks on Chart: 46 weeks
  • Year-End 2012: #296
  • Year-End 2013: #398
  • Year-End 2015: #490
  • Year-End 2016: #372
  • Year-End 2017: #249
While maybe not the group's debut single per se it's definitely their breakthrough single and at the same time the first one to feature Fergie. "Love" was released two years after 9/11 and features messages about racism, war, pollution and intolerance among others which made it pretty accessible for anyone who doesn't like those things. The song also features uncredited vocals from Justin Timberlake which may or may not have helped them break into the mainstream. To date this is among BEP's best sellers as it's accumulated an estimated 1758k points.

Top 40 Chart Run (12/05/2013): 40-35
Top 40 Chart Run (09/06/2017): 14

Black Eyed Peas Top 2000 entries:
”Don't Stop The Party” (#17, 2011)
”Just Can't Get Enough” (#03, 2011)
”Rock That Body” (#11, 2010)
”The Time (Dirty Bit)” (#01, 2010)

904. “Cry Me Out” by Pixie Lott — 193.595 points

  • Release Date: 14. November, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #12 (in 2009)
  • Weeks on Chart: 24 weeks
  • Year-End 2010: #139
Pixie Lott was something of a staple on the UK pop scene at the start of the decade as she had three successful singles in 2009 starting with summer #1 "Mama Do". "Cry Me Out" was the third single, released in November so it was still going strong once 2010 rolled around. It spent a total of 9 weeks in the Top 40 in the 2010s but hasn't troubled the chart since. Overall the song has managed an estimated total of 377k points to date.

Top 40 Chart Run (02/01/2010): 26-24-29-29-27-27-32-30-38

Pixie Lott Top 2000 entries:
”All About Tonight” (#01, 2011)
”Gravity” (#20, 2010)

”Turn It Up” (#11, 2010)

898. “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence — 196.200 points

  • Release Date: 24. May, 2003

  • Weeks on Chart: 50 weeks

  • Year-End 2013: #455
  • Year-End 2016: #318
  • Year-End 2017: #330
The anthem to emo & goth kids everywhere in 2003 has resurfaced for a total of 27 weeks in the 2010s, enough to propel it well into the Top 1000. "Bring Me To Life" was the lead single for Evanescence's debut album "Fallen" and their breakthrough single which helped pave their way to success well into the mid 2000s as they managed three other Top 10 hits from 2003 to 2006. "Bring Me To Life" remains their biggest by far, accumulating an estimated 1567k sales to date.

890. “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus — 199.488 points

  • Release Date: 17. February, 2001
  • Chart Peak: #2 (in 2001)
  • Weeks on Chart: 44 weeks
  • Year-End 2011: #295
  • Year-End 2012: #348
  • Year-End 2013: #283
  • Year-End 2014: #466
  • Year-End 2017: #439
The debut single for pop rock group Wheatus from their debut album all the way back at the start of the millennium has upwards of 1014k points accumulated to date but that's not enough for this noughties teen anthem because it keeps popping up in the Top 100 every year and usually with enough points to score in the Top 500. The same can unfortunately not be said about any of their other hits as this is the only song they have managed to chart since January 1, 2010.

Top 40 Chart Run (26/03/2011): 35
Top 40 Chart Run (21/04/2012): 36

874. “Wherever You Will Go” by The Calling — 206.035 points

  • Release Date: 22. June, 2002
  • Chart Peak: #3 (in 2002)
  • Weeks on Chart: 36 weeks
  • Year-End 2011: #166
  • Year-End 2016: #421
Initially a hit back in 2002, The Calling resurfaced towards the end of 2011 after Charlene Soraia's cover version was used in an advert in the UK. The cover sold very well, managing to replicate The Calling's original peak at #3 but perhaps unsurprisingly heaps of people decided to download the original instead sending it skyrocketing all the way to #16. "Wherever You Will Go" has managed an estimated 622k since 2002.

Top 40 Chart Run (22/10/2011): 25-16-29-28-33

The Calling Top 2000 entries:

  • Release Date: 28. November, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #7 (in 2010)
  • Weeks on Chart: 18 weeks
  • Year-End 2010: #121
Chipmunk (today known just as Chip) was pretty much everywhere at the end of last decade and start of this one, with "Look For Me" being the fifth single from his debut album "I Am Chipmunk" (although the first one failed to chart). "Look For Me" features Talay Riley, a Nigerian singer who surprisingly has had a couple of hits to his name with Wilkinson and LuvBug but none of these are in the Top 1000. "Look For Me" has however managed to accumulate a total of 330k points to date.

Top 40 Chart Run (02/01/2010): ..-13-10-07-16-22-26-35

Surprisingly low for 'Teenage Dirtbag' tbh as it seemed to return to the chart 500 times due to being reduced to 59p on iTunes but I'll take it, can't stand that song xx

  • Release Date: 24. October, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #5 (in 2009)
  • Weeks on Chart: 35 weeks
  • Year-End 2010: #132
Canadian heartthrob Michael Bublé achieved possibly his biggest hit yet with "Haven't Met You Yet" in 2009 which spent 4 weeks in the Top 10 and a total of 15 weeks in the Top 40. This was the lead single from his fourth album "Crazy Love" but up until this point he had only had four songs make the Top 100 and while their total number of weeks in the Top 100 was 89 weeks (!!) they had only spent a combined 5 weeks in the Top 40 so this was a big step-up for the Bubs. The points total for "Yet" is 630 over the last 9 years.

817. “Ordinary People” by John Legend — 227.600 points

  • Release Date: 18. June, 2005
  • Chart Peak: #4 (in 2012)
  • Weeks on Chart: 25 weeks
  • Year-End 2012: #145
  • Year-End 2013: #253
Believe it or not but before the monster hit "All Of Me", John Legend was just an ordinary person who performed ordinary songs about "Ordinary People". This was released as the second single from Legend's debut album all the way back in 2005 but it was really just a minor hit originally having only peaked at #27. However, in 2012 after having been performed on The Voice UK by semi-finalist Jaz Ellington, the song suddenly raced up the iTunes charts before settling for a #4 peak in April 2012. The song's points total currently is estimated to be 402k.
