I'm intrigued to see how he performs with this. Has he fully transitioned into a Radio 2 album act now?

Radio 1 playlisted all the singles from the last album, as did Radio 2. Guess we'll have to wait and see but on past form I'd tentatively say yes.

I'd say it depends on the sound of the lead single, I think R1 could still playlist him.

I'm looking forward to hearing the new stuff and it would be great if he can get radio support.

I can’t wait for his new material. I loved his last album, his best imo. Let’s hooe he gets the support to have another successful album campaign.

For us fans we are lucky.
Olly to date, has released consistently good albums and i would welcome this trend continuing.

Not necessarily related to the new album but thought I'd mention it here - Olly and his sister Fay are running the Great North Run in September, raising money for Brainwave Centre (a charitable foundation in Essex for young people with developmental disabilities that he is patron for) and Mind: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser...s&pageUrl=1

Reports on a certain tabloid news site tonight that the first single - due in a matter of weeks - is a collaboration with Snoop Dogg. I will believe that when it comes from Olly's mouth, but hey, I guess they made Flo Rida work on 'Troublemaker'...

Wow! Unexpected, but I'm very intrigued. Hopefully it's out in time for X Factor promo.

Murs will struggle in comparison to his previous success. The X factor is well past its sell by date and audience figures have dropped significantly so he’ll need more than support from the show and with his own career on a steady decline, unless he has a strong track then he might struggle to return!

Whilst I don't disagree re: The X Factor being a shadow of its former self, I have to disagree on the point in bold. Did you not see the level of promo he did for '24 HRS'? The 'relying on the show' criticism was possibly relevant on his first and second albums. Trying to imply that now is lazy and after nine years established and still around - longer than most artists who were around the same time as he launched - is disrespectful.

He was on everything and in everything up to and from its release and well into the Christmas period, Radio 1 and 2 playlisted all the singles from it. 'You Don't Know Love' was also number 1 on radio airplay for several weeks in the summer of 2016. And the album was also his fourth number one in a row. That doesn't just happen from 'relying on the show' that bought him success in the first place.

I wasn’t implying he was lazy. I think you have taken what I said out of context. I was merely pointing out that his career is in decline somewhat and he will require a lot more than just exposure from the show. His last album didn’t perform as well and neither did the singles. He has certainly passed the apex of his career - from what I recall “you don’t know love” didn’t make T10 despite being quite catchy and being no1 on radio play as highlighted by yourself.

the problem with olly is the lack of streams, but that happens to all non-urban old artists, they do well on itunes but not on spotify, cos streaming is dominated by kids age 12 that listen to drake, thats it, nothing to do with popularity declining if an old act cannot get a hit

This. Listening to the head of RCA talk above recently to Music Week though it looks like they are working on this album campaign to change that.

I know he's also got an online vlog series coming soon that he's been filming recently doing different sports - although I don't know too much about that yet, or indeed if it ties in in some way to the album/single?

Olly talking about the new album in the Daily Star Sunday today:

QUOTE
Olly Murs is going back to the fun factor on his new album.

The Voice mentor believes he got too serious on his last record after breaking up with long-term girlfriend Francesca Thomas. But Olly says he’s back to his bubbly best after starting work on his sixth album.

Chatting in my exclusive interview, he said: “I’m working on my new album and haven’t been this excited about a new release since 2012. I think the last album was probably too personal. I’ve never really been a singer-songwriter who writes about my personal experiences and I don’t think it’s what people want from me."

“I had broken up with my girlfriend and was in a bit of a low place where I thought I was still in love with her. But now I’m single, loving being single and loving life. The new music is much more back to the feel-good, fun-loving, uplifting music that people know me for.”

Olly has just launched a limited edition T-shirt, seen here, with all funds going to the Brainwave charity, of which he is a patron.

Buy one at yellowbirdproject.com

I actually thought '24 HRS' was one of his best albums, even taking the context of it being a break up album away from it. Still it's nice to hear we're getting something upbeat from him again.

Don't know how much truth there is to this, but a report in today's Daily Star Sunday is allegedly saying that this new album is going to be bundled as a double album with a greatest hits to mark 2019 being his 10th year in music: https://www.dailystar.co.uk/showbiz/733200/...gue-golden-tour

I'm in two minds about this. Obviously it is his 10th anniversary in music next year, and it would be a crying shame to not mark that achievement (I'm actually planning something exciting with the Olly fansite I used to edit and run). The only other ones from a show like X Factor to mark 10 years in music are Will Young and Girls Aloud.

But I think they should do the greatest hits next year because it'd be more fitting to mark it then for the actual 10th anniversary and also so it doesn't overshadow the new album. Still is exciting a new tour is in the offing!
