So a big change is happening on Monday, Radio 1's Breakfast show will have a new host in the form of Greg James. The change comes after Nick Grimshaw and Greg James switched show times. But will you listen to James's very first breakfast show?

Strange week to start, usually change these things at the start of September, not mid summer. But no I never hear the radio 1 breakfast show!

I remember listening to Greg between 4am and 6:30am when I was on night shifts in the late 2000s, I probably won't be listening as I usually have the 6Music breakfast show these days on with Shaun Keaveny (if I'm even awake at that time!)

I won't hear his very first one but I usually put the Radio 1 Breakfast Show on for between 5 and 10 minutes before work, so I expect I'll be hearing him come September.

I am a Radio 2/Chris Evans man in the mornings these days so probably not. I actually didn't mind Greg when he started on Radio 1 as he championed a lot of pop acts, but in recent years he's turned into such a company man it's hard to warm him.

So pleased to see Greg get all the way to the top job. I'll always remember sitting in with him do the Student Radio Chart once at UEA, the night after he'd won Best Male DJ at the Student Radio Awards. One of his mates came in the studio and said he'd been chatting to someone in the industry who said the award basically would guarantee him a job in radio. We had about 6 listeners online at the time but he still took it very seriously. Even then he'd work out the timings of the songs so he would end exactly on time for the news - I asked him why he bothered and he said it was good practice for when he does it for real.

My other main memories of him was him always sticking up for me when I was arguing with someone about a record being playlisted in a playlist meeting. Most of the other students wanted it to be a purely indie-rock station, and I had to fight to get anything mainstream on the playlist. Once someone wanted to throw the CD of Madonna's Hung Up out the window rather than playlist it, but he stepped in and said no, this is a great record, we're playing it!

I don't tend to listen to Radio 1 very much but I'll certainly tune in to see how he's doing

Since I started swimming in the mornings, I hadn’t heard any breakfast show before going to work but since being off I’ve been waking up around 7/8 so I expect I’ll hear this.

The first show may not be too good as these things often take a while to find their feet. Nick Grimshaw’s early shows were quite painful IIRC but he got much better towards the end.

I’m very happy for him, he’s SO incredibly passionate about radio that this will be a dream for him and very well deserved!

Doubt I will be listening as I prefer to listen to my own music or podcasts (such as the Scott Mills one oops) but I’m sure I’ll catch bits here and there!

I haven't listened to Radio 1 properly since about 2015/2016 so I'm not going to start now. When it comes to radio it's all about Capital Xtra for me!

I’ll probably catch the last hour on my way to work on Monday. I like Gregg and wish him all the best for the new show and hope he has the right team to help make the show a success and pull the ratings of Radio 1 up to the 10 million+ mark again! I guess starting now whilst it’s still in holiday season is a good move as it gives them time to iron out any creases before the first week in September when everything goes back to normal.

Doesn't anyone else think it's an odd time to start a new breakfast show? You'd think they'd have waited until the schools went back and everyone was back from their holidays.

Not really. Like I said it gives them a week or two to iron out any creases. It appears to be a soft launch to the show as I’ve not seen or heard any trailers promoting the new show so I presume they’ll start pushing it across the BBC in the run up to everything going back to normal after the bank holiday!

I've never really understood why people always treat the breakfast show as if it is much more important than the other shows.

No I barely listen to radio in the morning these days and I'm finding Greg grating a lot in the last couple of years too!

It's the one which gets the highest listening figures on any radio station.
