Some great 80s music in it too! The bad news is that it emphasised how much further i have to go in learning German.

Yeh, I really liked episode 1 and the music and culture back then was great. It was funny when he just stood in the supermarket looking at the varieties of fruit they had lol. Then when he kept hearing the same song he was like...'they play this all the time'. Looking forward to episode 2. Although surely when they see West Germany they would realise their system is flawed??

Just watched the 2nd episode and can't wait to watch the 3rd one. Second time I see Jonas Nay playing a East German guy and he really does that well.

His training seems to have left certain areas untouched. Still, that made for some entertainment when he ordered his steak.

I watched all episodes and I'm not gonna spoiler but it's getting better every episode. I love the musical soundtrack, Major Tom is one of my favorite 80s songs.

Same here, just watched this weeks last night. Phil Collins is the best finale track so far.

I love how the commies were enjoying their Woschester Sauce at the end whereas nobody else in the East would have had it, very Animal Farmesque!!

Yeh they said its feature length - loving it!!

I'm intrigued to see how Annett fits into things, absolute stunner she is too by the way.

Funny how the intelligence guys in the east have an interest in keeping the confrontation going - maybe he's meant to be a Putin style character lol.

I think the point is that both sides wanted to keep the conflict going. In the west, it could be used to justify huge amounts of spending on weapons that would never be used. In the east, it helped to keep their people paranoid as a way of justifying their repressive form of government. On both sides, it helped keep the intelligence services in a job.

Just watched Sunday's series finale - it was nearly two hours long - but it was absolutely fantastic - is there plans for another series?

Apparently not. It would be rather difficult to pick up the story from there. Deutschland 89 with Martin witnessing the fall of the Wall would make an interesting series though.

Indeed it would and it would make sense too to see the effects on the characters. Loved how his aunt was moving to Mozambique lol.

Post 1983 the Cold War Dec did begin to thaw!

Anyway fantastic watch - Tobias was set my fav character.
