Seinfield is a VERY American show. It isn't universal. And yes, it is very EXCLUSIVE - it shows its age a LOT. Not an inclusive show at all

If I were to rank the Friends characters, I'd go...
1 Phoebe 2 Chandler 3 Rachel 4 Ross 5 Monica 6 Joey Not really a fan of Monica or Joey. |

Seinfield is a VERY American show. It isn't universal. And yes, it is very EXCLUSIVE - it shows its age a LOT. Not an inclusive show at all I've heard people say Seinfeld is too "American" or it's too "Jewish", and they're such lazy assumptions! It's no more American than say Friends, Cheers, Frasier, Roseanne, Will & Grace or any other American sitcom for that matter. Poor scheduling by the BBC was the main reason why it never really took off in the UK. Seinfeld did have success in other countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Israel. I'm convinced Seinfeld would have been very popular here if it was aired on Channel 4 and was given a good time slot like all the other big American sitcoms had in the '90s. 1 Phoebe 2 Chandler 3 Rachel 4 Ross 5 Monica 6 Joey 1. Phoebe 2. Rachel 3. Monica 4. Chandler 5. Ross 6. Joey As if Ross is not the absolutely worst character. 1. Phoebe 2. Chandler 3. Monica 4. Rachel 5. Joey 6. The other one But to be honest I find Friends to be the most overrated TV show ever. Also of course it hasn't aged well but it's not that problematic if you just cut out Ross lol. |

It’s not really problematic at all if you just take it for what it is. A product of its time. Basically this. It doesn't detract from the fact that I've always seen it as a show with a lot of humour and a lot of heart in it, and the fact we're all a little bit like each of them at times. We all have our awkward geeky Ross moments or our compulsive Monica moments or our more spoilt moments like Rachel. (I'm as full blown a Friends fan as they come, bytheby.) |

Rating in 2019...
1. Phoebe (actually just a sweetheart who's surprisingly well adjusted, given everything) 2. Rachel (fish out of water weirdo) 3. Monica (honestly she and Rachel go back and forth for me. Both great comedy characters too) 4. Joey (on balance the nicest of the guys) 5. Chandler (Generally grand and funny but has weird hangups with his parents & with women for someone of his age, commitment issues etc.) 6. Ross (what is there to say. Has moments of charm but is such a whiner despite being literally Mr Privilege. Particularly letting his parents bully Monica is just shitty) I'll chime in to say its great for its time & holds up better than a lot of comedy for the time. Seinfeld and Friends there's no contest in that regard especially. |

I think Ross has always had a lot of great physical moments of comedy in the show, and certainly the way he reacts to things, particularly towards the end of the show. The episode that springs to mind is when he finds out Joey and Rachel are a thing in Season 10 and he spends the whole episode saying "I'M FINE" Forever altered the way I say the words "fajitas" and "margaritas", anyhow

Why do you think so? Any examples? To keep it simple, Seinfeld is much funnier, the writing is far superior and the cast/characters/guest stars are 100x better. This is a great article on why Seinfeld is a much better sitcom than Friends is: https://screenrant.com/things-seinfeld-did-...r-than-friends/ |

I guess all the characters in Seinfeld I find insufferable, so, no matter how good the writing around them is, I don't have any interest in watching what they're up to. The characters in Friends are for the most part charming and broadly sympathetic.
Tbh I think comparing the two is an odd metric anyway as they're clearly very different shows. We could as well compare The Nanny and Supernanny because they're both about nannies, although everything else is miles apart. |
