It's certainly better than having the tired format of Liechtenstein vs. Portugal or Andorra vs. Germany etc. This gives nations a chance to play more games against teams on their level which will help them develop and get confidence by not being blown out 8-0 every match.
I love that Iceland is now considered a Top 12 European side. |

Looking forward to the ties in dublin this autumn especially to see Coleman vs Wales!
Anyone know if the tv coverage has been decided for the other games? What do the groups within the leagues mean - so if Ireland get promoted do they go up into group above or relegated to group A or the League below?? |

If Ireland win their group, they are promoted to League A. The groups within the revise leagues will be decided by a new draw, so they could go into any of the four groups. My biggest reservation is that fact that one team from each league will qualify for the Euros. With the current format of the Euros, four third-placed teams in the group stage go through to the knock-out stage. If results against the fourth-placed team count towards this, the teams in the same group as the "minnows" will have a potential advantage. |

What do you guys make of this tournament? I'm feel quite confused about this but it seems like it's going to have more purpose than the dull friendlies that we used to get. It's like an international version of the Champions League the way the matches are formatted but how it leads into qualification for Euro 2020 is what really confuses me and the fact that there's a trophy at stake but the route doesn't point towards a clear winner unless I'm missing something?

I think it's a good concept but it's unbelievably over complicated. I think more is at stake for the smaller nations as someone from League D is going to make Euro 2020. |

Once the relegation from divisions kicks in countries will realise it's important and take it seriously. Especially if a traditionally big nation falls into the division below as they will want to play this big nations(albeit Iceland look like dropping after their disasterous result yday vs the Swiss)!
That Spain England game was a lot better than a friendly for me and it's better for people to go to Wembley to watch England play competitive games vs big nations each year than qualifying groups when some games are against mid ranking teams they easily beat! |

The only way the minnows are going to really improve is playing in competitive games, not playing against top teams with considerable more talent that end up not taking the match as seriously when they're up 8-0. They gain more confidence playing well against teams on level playing field. It's good to see the League C and League D action.

What a match.
If the ref hadn't ruled out that Welbeck goal in the first match we would be dominating this group. |

That has to be the most impressive result since 5-1 against Germany in 2001.
