780. “Harder Than You Think” by Public Enemy — 244.837 points

  • Release Date: 13. August, 2007
  • Chart Peak: #4 (in 2012)
  • Weeks on Chart: 14 weeks
  • Year-End 2012: #101
This was a tough one to distinguish which decade it really belongs to because while this song first debuted in 2012 it was originally released in 2007 but it just never charted. "Harder Than You Think" was boosted up the charts thanks to being used as the theme tune to the 2012 Paralympic Games coverage on Channel 4 and it managed to become Public Enemy's highest-charting single ever and after 18 top 100 hits they finally reach the Top 10 and have a song last longer than 10 weeks on the chart.

777. “3 Words” by Cheryl Cole featuring Will.i.am — 246.227 points

  • Release Date: 7. November, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #4 (in 2010)
  • Weeks on Chart: 23 weeks
  • Year-End 2010: #108
Since going solo from Girls Aloud Cheryl had experienced huge success with her debut single "Fight For This Love" being a two-week number one hit and then the follow-up, featuring none other than Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am, was a big top 10 hit as well. From its' first week on the chart until now "3 Words" has managed to collect a total of 426k points, making it hard to deny that this was indeed a big hit for Cheryl.

773. “No Diggity” by Blackstreet featuring Dr. Dre — 250.502 points

  • Release Date: 19. October, 1996
  • Chart Peak: #9 (in 1996)
  • Weeks on Chart: 41 weeks
  • Year-End 2010-2017: xxx-491-xxx-175-381-289-xxx-xxx
In a surprising return to the chart Blackstreet and Dr. Dre owe much of their success (if not all of it) to Pitch Perfect as the song resurfaced after being covered in the movie by Anna Kendrick and the "Barden Bellas". Since then the song has resurfaced numerous times and in fact it seems somewhat strange for it to not be higher than this given that "No Diggity" seems to return to the Top 100 every other week. Perhaps more unsurprising is that due to its' short original chart run, the song has only managed to collect around 496k points to date.

Top 40 Chart Run (31/03/2013): 38

Blackstreet Top 2000 entries:
Blackstreet has no entries in the Top 2000.

Dr. Dre Top 2000 entries:
“I Need A Doctor“ (#08, 2011)

771. “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga — 251.807 points

  • Release Date: 24. January, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #1 (in 2009)
  • Weeks on Chart: 84 weeks
  • Year-End 2010-2017: 120-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx
Lady Gaga's second single from her debut album "Poker Face" is arguably one of her biggest to date, depending on who you ask. The song first entered the chart in the same week as "Just Dance" was spending its' second of three weeks at Number One, and from that moment started its' lengthy consecutive Top 100 run which included a whopping 34 weeks in the Top 40. Whether it's Gaga's biggest song yet will have to remain a mystery for now but it has an estimated 2275k points to date so I definitely wouldn't be surprised if it took the Gaga crown.

Top 40 Chart Run (09/01/2010): 32-39

Lady Gaga Top 2000 entries:
“Alejandro“ (#07, 2010)
“Applause“ (#05, 2013)
“Born This Way“ (#03, 2011)
“Do What U Want“ (#09, 2013)
“Judas“ (#08, 2011)
“Marry The Night“ (#16, 2011)
“Million Reasons“ (#13, 2016)
“Telephone“ (#01, 2010)
“The Cure“ (#04, 2017)
“The Edge Of Glory“ (#06, 2011)

1107. “You and I" (#23, 2011) [132k]
1324. “Perfect Illusion“ (#05, 2016) [94k]

757. “Fix You” by Coldplay — 255.869 points

  • Release Date: 17. September, 2005
  • Chart Peak: #4 (in 2005)
  • Weeks on Chart: 74 weeks
  • Year-End 2010-2017: xxx-192-366-xxx-491-xxx-324-292
British rock band Coldplay has had a slew of huge hits through the years but perhaps one of their most iconic is this emotional ballad that was reportedly written by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin for his wife-at-the-time Gwyneth Paltrow when her father died. This beautiful song has resurfaced more times than I can count on one hand since 2010 and I expect this pattern to continue for the remaining 17 months of the decade. Its' point estimate is currently at 1209k which is honestly lower than expected but still comfortably a million-seller.

Top 40 Chart Run (09/06/2017): 21

Coldplay Top 2000 entries:
“A Sky Full Of Stars” (#09, 2014)
“Adventure Of A Lifetime” (#07, 2015)
“Christmas Lights” (#13, 2010)
“Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” (#06, 2011)
“Hymn For The Weekend” (#04, 2016)
“Magic” (#10, 2014)
“Paradise” (#01, 2011)
“Princess Of China” (#04, 2012)
“Something Just Like This” (#02, 2017)

1077. “Charlie Brown” (#22, 2012) [139k]
1353. “Miracles (Someone Special)” (#24, 2017) [90k]
1537. “Everglow” (#28, 2015) [69k]
1722. “Up&Up” (#37, 2016) [53k]
1908. “Atlas” (#12, 2013) [42k]

The new rule banning 3+ year old songs from going back to SCR has probably completely ended any hopes for 'Fix You' to ever return to the top 40 again :'( after quite a few times it has resurfaced and got as high as the 40s or 50s.

Idk I'm kind of mixed on this. One one hand I like seeing some older songs returning to the chart but I'm also fed up of the same songs coming back and back again to the chart (i.e. "Mr Brightside" and "Chasing Cars") and wish we'd get more "freshness" in that department too lol.

745. “Russian Roulette” by Rihanna — 260.905 points

  • Release Date: 5. December, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #2 (in 2009)
  • Weeks on Chart: 22 weeks
  • Year-End 2010-2017: 105-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx
Rihanna's lead single from the long anticipated fourth studio album "Rated R" (which followed up "Good Girl Gone Bad" which is safe to say secured her status as a modern legend). This was also the first single she released after the whole Chris Brown incident and many speculated if the song was indeed about that whole ordeal as the heart-wrenching lyrics ask someone to "just pull the trigger". "Russian Roulette" has collected an estimated 550k points to date.

743. “The Climb” by Joe McElderry — 262.266 points

  • Release Date: 26. December, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #1 (in 2009)
  • Weeks on Chart: 9 weeks
  • Year-End 2010-2017: 96-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx
Some might find it strange that I group this song with pre-2010s given that it's first "charting date" is only 5 days before the new decade but the thing is the song was actually released on December 14 and while it did indeed spend 9 weeks Top 100, two of the weeks it spent Top 2 were technically in 2009 (if we go by the date that the chart is announced rather than the date the chart is valid until). This was of course Joe's inauguration song as the winner of The X Factor 2009, a cover of Miley Cyrus' song "The Climb" (No. 2323 on the full chart). While Joe has not really been a hit machine, this song has still managed to shift 351k to date.

741. “Merry Xmas Everybody” by Slade — 263.530 points

  • Release Date: 15. December, 1973
  • Chart Peak: #1 (in 1973)
  • Weeks on Chart: 92 weeks
  • Year-End 2010-2017: 341-273-320-393-345-459-469-400
The first of many christmas songs on this list (8 in total), Slade brings one of the oldest songs in the recurring list to the Top 1000 thanks to trickle sales every christmas. The song has only managed to peak at #33 in the 2010s but it's still spent 31 weeks these past 7 christmases (that's 4.4 avg every year). To date it's estimated that "Merry Xmas Everybody" has a combined total of 2189k.

733. “Little Lion Man” by Mumford & Sons — 270.334 points

  • Release Date: 5. September, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #24 (in 2009)
  • Weeks on Chart: 54 weeks
  • Year-End 2010-2017: 178-405-402-380-xxx-479-xxx-xxx
Perhaps one of the most surprising trickle sellers (in my opinion) is Mumford & Sons' debut single "Little Lion Man". I haven't noticed it resurfacing as often as it has and always thought "The Cave" would be the bigger hit of these two but this has managed to outsell it quite comfortably as "Little Lion Man" has an estimated 568k points to date, impressive given that the song has not reached the Top 40 at all in the 2010s.

Top 40 Chart Run: "Little Lion Man" has not entered the Top 40 in the 2010s so far.

Mumford & Sons Top 2000 entries:
“I Will Wait“ (#12, 2012)
“The Cave“ (#31, 2010)

730. “Young Forever” by Jay-Z featuring Mr. Hudson — 273.131 points

  • Release Date: 26. September, 2009
  • Chart Peak: #10 (in 2010)
  • Weeks on Chart: 29 weeks
  • Year-End 2010-2017: 98-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx
Jay-Z's first of two entries on this recurrent list is his borderline 2009/2010 single "Young Forever" which, while released in September 2009, didn't actually peak until February 2010 so it was a tough choice to exclude it from the actual Top 1000. The song samples Alphaville's "Forever Young" which actually never charted in the UK (which is a scandal) and features British singer Mr. Hudson. "Young Forever" has sold 400k to date.

Top 40 Chart Run (02/01/2010): 30-27-19-13-13-10-15-19-24-33

While "We Cry" was indeed the band's first single to hit the Top 100, it's safe to say that "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" was definitely their first proper big hit. The song was used heavily on the CBS show Ghost Whisperer during its fourth season which may have helped them break into the Billboard Top 100 as well with this emotional ballad. Total sales to date are estimated at a whopping 1.58m.

727. “One Day Like This” by Elbow — 273.848 points

  • Release Date: 14. June, 2008
  • Chart Peak: #4 (in 2012)
  • Weeks on Chart: 69 weeks
  • Year-End 2010-2017: xxx-294-133-xxx-444-xxx-xxx-xxx
Suffering from a similar problem to Public Enemy, "One Day Like This" was initially released in 2008 but its peak position wasn't reached until 2012 thanks to its usage in the 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony. Unlike Public Enemy however this song had been recurring and collecting more than 50 weeks on the chart prior to its breakthrough so it was very easy for me to mark this down as a 2008 song rather than a 2012 one. Thanks to a lengthy chart run this song has a total of 1145k to date.

  • Weeks on Chart: 65 weeks

While "We Cry" was indeed the band's first single to hit the Top 100, it's safe to say that "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" was definitely their first proper big hit. The song was used heavily on the CBS show Ghost Whisperer during its fourth season which may have helped them break into the Billboard Top 100 as well with this emotional ballad. Total sales to date are estimated at a whopping 1.58m.

697. “Do They Know It's Christmas?” by Band Aid — 288.321 points

  • Release Date: 15. December, 1984
  • Chart Peak: #1 (in 1984)
  • Weeks on Chart: 59 weeks
  • Year-End 2010-2017: 367-279-331-444-344-365-346-298
I think it's best to start off by making it clear this entry is only for the '84 version of Band Aid although it's hard to distinguish at times which version people are really buying. Christmas songs have always been big trickle sellers as has been shown previously on this chart and DTKIC has become one of the most popular ones in the past thirty-something years since its' release. Although this version has only gone once to number one, all the revamps have done so as well for a combined total of THIRTEEN weeks in the top spot. The original version of "Do They Know It's Christmas" has sold a very impressive total of 1.74m to date but if all versions are combined we have a monstrous 4.83m sales all-in-all.
