Maria Haukaas Storeng does not belong with the others around it! "O Jardim" is also beautiful, though not quite sure where I'd place it among the 726 songs myself...!

"Ding Dong", whilst generic and uninspired, deserved to make the final in the weakest contest of the decade. Some questionable finalists to say the least.

Now that Stig Van Eijk is out of the running we've made it to the top 10 of 1999 making it the third year to reach the top ten already.

So my top ten is fairly similar to the actual top ten. We have eventual winner Sweden here, Iceland’s joint best result Selma, third placers Germany, fan faves Croatia, as well as sixth placers Estonia and ninth placers Netherlands. That means I’ve got 6 of the actual top 10 here and four newbies that in my opinion should have made the top 10 instead. That includes girl group Precious representing the UK, Belgium’s version of Enya, a cute pop song from Malta and so far my biggest disagreement with IRL 1999: second-to-last placer Cyprus. Now onto the rest of the year..

Ok lets take a look at the songs falling from the top 10 here. First we have Bosnia & Herzegovina who drop 7-13 for me with a song some of you seemed to mourn. Denmark’s generic pop song also drops a similar height 8-14 but no one was bothered by that. Israel has the highest fall of all here from 5-16 and I’m still quite surprised it was an actual top tenner. Finally it’s Austria’s Bobbie Singer who drops 10-18 and again no one seemed impacted by that result. All of these songs are in the 11th-19th range so there was no song in 1999 that I was just appalled by placing so high but still a few disagreements. All of my bottom 5 songs were rather low IRL (ranging from 17th to 23rd/last) so I’m happy about that.

1999 was such a glorious Eurovision year. The top 5 was incredible (yes, I even stan the Israeli 9th place X Factor boyband) even if I do think Dame Harlot should've stepped aside for an Icelandic victory OR let's be real Croatia should've won quite easily, not Jon Ola Sand being salty and getting their points docked for future relegation calculation purposes! In fact I only actively dislike Malta and Denmark from 1999, probably my favourite set of entries ever actually.

the top 2 in 1999 was okay but my absolute faves are of course Croatia, Germany and Bosnia. Slovenia also slayed. I agree that it was a stellar year, I'll need to revisit it sometime soon~

Only for the purpose of calculating their five year score average, which was used before the semi finals came into play. Her 4th place finish for the archives was kept untainted.

I actively dislike Rybak's most recent output that quite honestly belongs in the bin because it's TASTELESS TRASH.

Agree that Albania 2015 suffered from being terrible live. The studio version was played by me to death iirc
