Excuse me? What's brought this on?

We cannot make a decision between the two options you have presented us without context.

in which case charges seem to have been withdrawn after the police performed their appropriate duty to investigate if it was a hate crime.

But when interacting with trans people it's polite to find out what pronoun they prefer and then use it according to their wishes.

IMO it's absurd to classify merely using the wrong pronoun as a *hate* crime. Now spraying swastikas on synagogues, or placing pigs head's outside mosques - *those* are hate crimes!

Which is all very well face-to-face, but on-line, you never who who you are talking to.

It's an issue that is being largely ignored by a reluctant press to open a can of worms. There is a fair bit of context for the use of police resources eg

https://mirandayardley.com/en/when-a-transs...der-hate-crime/

However, it's a loaded question. Police resources need to be increased and they need to review their policies overall and it's prob best we don't get into the use of pronouns as it only takes one person taking offence for someone to end up on nodding terms with the local constabulary...

What is a better use of government time?

a) Tackling knife crime;
b) Screwing the country based on the result of a close-fought advisory referendum in which the winning side broke the law numerous times.

I don't *have* to, but I choose to. I thought this was a discussion forum?

Don't I have the right to say that tackling knife crime is more important than issues of political correctness?

And posters choose to read them. And respond. Perhaps in disagreement with you. Is that not allowed?

Of course they are - but I'd rather they discuss the issue I actually raised, rather than make a knee-jerk defence of PC at every opportunity. mellow.gif

Maliciously misgendering someone (not saying the case here as I know nothing about it) and having nothing in place to stop this, can lead to the normalisation of society against transgnder people and put them at more risk of violent hate crime - which of course includes knife crime. Therefore, one can lead into the other? It’s about prevention and cutting it off from the start.

I don’t think that because one can trump another in terms of importance means that the other shouldn’t at least be looked at - it doesn’t mean charges have to be brought and I don’t think anyone will be getting a prison sentence for misgendering someone? You have to look at the wider issues and what can stem from it though.

What do you think about using police resources to ‘arrest’ a 104 woman because it was on her bucket list?
