Such an underrated band - did radio 1 ever give them support?

I don't think they're that underrated - their last album got to #1!

Well true, they have a loyal fanbase but they don't really have a signature song and do they get or previously have much radio 1 support?

they had cazillions of signature songs but let's face it, they're not R1 material
Bloodbuzz Ohio is probably their most famous song |

agree, they're very under-rated
I'd say they're probably the most popular band who have never had a top 40 single in the UK This post has been edited by Bjork: Mar 6 2019, 12:16 PM |

I'd probably say Tame Impala are more popular, but The National would certainly be up there.

'You Had Your Soul With You' is such a great song. The National aren't a band I've ever paid much attention to (although I did love 'Bloodbuzz Ohio' back in the day as well ~) but I might have to now. <3

They have so many great songs in they discography, Conversation 16, Bloodbuzz Ohio, I Need my Girl are probably my top 3 I personally think High Violet is their best album |

for me, the best song by The National will always be Conversation 16
this is one of the best songs lyrically in the history of music every single line is pure genius from genius lyrics: In this song, a married couple with kids seems to be breaking apart at the seams. The narrator is speaking about how they try to put up an act for all of their friends, and how he’s evil. The title of the song might reflect that this is the 16th conversation they had on the matter already, so they keep falling into the same rut. This is one of the album’s themes: trying to stay in a relationship that is slowly but surely falling apart. love this verse in particular: I'm a confident liar Have my head in the oven so you'll know where I'll be I try to be more romantic I want to believe in everything you believe If I was less than amazing I do not know what all the troubles are for Fall asleep in your branches You're the only thing I ever want anymore |

This sort of passed me by on first listen yesterday but today it is sounding better. Interesting addition to include such prominent female vocals, I think I'm going to end up really liking it as usual.
