TRUE STORY:

I used to hate Charli XCX oops. At the time I was ~involved with a guy that stanned her and I just could not see the appeal. I found her annoying, try hard and I thought she was too vulgar ohmy.gif She then performed at a club I frequented every week... and I hated the experience. She was drunk, late, annoying, and I continued my dislike.

THEN THE BITCH RELEASED POP2 AND I SAW THE LIGHT AND I WENT BACK AND ACTUALLY LISTENED TO HER EARLIER MUSIC and the rest is HISTORY.

What is your ~discovering Charli~ story?

didn't really know who she was at all bar maybe knowing boom clap and break the rules but my brother was into her stuff so I got him tickets for christmas, ended up going to see her with him. The gig wasn't terrible, I actually quite enjoyed it even though I'm pretty sure she was drunk but the crowd was awful like i've been at gigs with moshpits and god knows what else going on but that was one of the worst, i was nearly floored so many times :') anyway sucker was really up my street taste wise in 2015 like it was undeniably pop but it had an edge/attitude to it which i liked so i began listening to that a lot. I think I think heard You (Ha Ha Ha) and Superlove from her earlier stuff as well and then I was hooked, those two tracks are still up there with my fave songs she's ever done tbh. It's weird that I probably stan her mixtapes the most when that's a branch of pop music I didn't think I was that keen on but I think I'm at the stage now where I'm just gonna love anything she puts out

My first proper memory of hearing of Charli is when "You're the One" was entered into BJSC in 2012 and it was instant love, gave it my twelve or ten points and been a fan of her ever since. "I Love It" must've been around the same time, I can't remember which I heard first but I'll give the credit to her solo song.

Nuclear Seasons was my first love, what a song wub.gif I kind of fell out of love with Sucker, I didn't dislike her but didn't care so much, but the mixtapes/random songs/now album have brought me back in!

I was a huge fan of I Love It and I was kinda curious to see what the fuss with her was about since I hadn’t seen her name thrown out nor was she getting false rumors for US follow ups like Icona Pop was (okay maybe not that false but I genuinely thought We Got The World was going to be the follow up instead of the generic af Just Another Night). So I took a listen to stuff like SuperLove and fell for her almost instantly. There was something infectious about her earlier discography - it was just the right amount of cookie cutter without it actually being cookie cutter. Then her feature in Fancy and the Sucker album kept that momentum going.

I will admit that I’m less into her stuff now than I was back when I first joined Buzzjack but her sound is still so appealing and I’m glad that she’s managed to evolve throughout the coming years. Dirty Sexy Money remains an underappreciated fave from her even if it’s only a feature sad.gif

I also used to hate her as lastfm pushed her all the time. First album ok minus the pushing, few decent tracks. Second album not my thing at all & Boom Clap is the devil. Fancy was shite when it came out and is shite now. Missed Vroom Vroom at first bc I had no interest in her, gave a second chance around time of Number 1 Angel bc of her collaborators and wtf, she was actually damn good and pretty cool. So it was a long road tbh.

I Love It was the first song I heard/loved by her, although at that point she was kind of a faceless artist for me. It was probably Fancy that properly introduced me to who she was! I was then on board for the Sucker era. wub.gif
