Dunno, it's kinda both. I mean the promo is definitely on par with "a proper Ed Sheeran album": first single with Bieber, great push on streaming outlets, music videos, pop up shops around the globe. But it doesn't really "feel" like an Ed Sheeran album, just random songs out there.

Listened through to this in full for the first time today, and wow - what a bore/chore. It just feels like he’s purposefully trying to reach too many markets with this album, and just marketing it as ‘experimental’.

Someone may have mentioned it already in this thread, but part of the instrumental to “Put It All on Me” is a complete rip-off of Becky Hill’s “I Could Get Used to This”.

Leads for number one on 63.5k. Be interesting to see if this clears even three digits by week's end?

It should, JUST, depending on how big portion of the first bunch is pure sales. Was there a pre-order thing of some sort?

I think 101k or sth by Friday.

How do we know it doesn't sample it? There are numerous tracks used which are very similar to others, I think "Feels" samples Krept n Konan and "Remember The Name" certainly samples something during the chorus too.

I think he will make 3 digits by the end of the week but not as comfortable as i thought Ed would manage.

The reason why this isn’t selling as much is that the music isn’t calculated like Divide was to appeal to all ages. When Ed released Shape of You and Castle On the Hill that wasn’t for any other reason but to appeal to a young and old audience. The older Radio 2 audience don’t have a Castle on the Hill on this album it’s full of rap songs and Shape of You copies with features that again don’t appeal to an older audience. When Ed releases his next proper album that will be massive but only if he waits for a couple of years and disappears like the last time and build up the hype again.

I like ed Sheeran myself but this album wouldnt appeal to me, his next album will hopefully be back to his usual style, the album isnt aimed at his usual fans so I dont think it's anything to worry about.

Who are "the usual fans" of Ed Sheeran? Why IDC and BP wouldn't work for "usual fans"?

I want to know because it's interesting. IDC is exactly like Shape of You as a song and BP is the most least offensive pop single that one can get for airplay in 2019.

It's true that there are not a song like Perfect on the album but there ARE, however, songs like Shape of You and Castle on the Hill on it. And his lyrics haven't changed a bit.

Maybe for some they don't want him to collab with artists who are "unknown" to them

On the contrary, there are songs dominated by the likes of Meek Mill, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Skrillex, Young Thug and J Hus. Do you think the average buyer of Perfect would like these artists?

And even in the movies, an all-star cast only do little impact on the records overall except for some like Avengers etc

Maybe Ed Sheeran either doesn't know his fanbase then or don't care?
It's not like this is comparable to the jazz album Gaga made with Tony Bennett (someone mentioned it in the chart forum) - that was a separate project and nothing like she had done or has done since.

To me this is just bunch of Ed Sheeran tracks with urban leaning guests.

To be fair, he did make a song addressing this. tongue.gif

There’s plenty of Shape of You’s on the album but no Castle on the Hill or Perfect two songs which sold Divide to the Radio 2 crowd.

Anybody else getting 'NASA' by Ariana vibes from Anti-Social? Every time that staggered drop happens I always burst into the chorus of 'NASA' laugh.gif

Overall, I liked this album more than I thought I would. A lot of the songs blend into one for me but there are a couple that stand out. South of the Border, Cross Me, Remember the Name, Take Me Back To London and BLOW all stand out to me, especially BLOW. wub.gif

I also hate that I Don't Care has grown on me sad.gif

Decided to listen to all of the songs on here just out of interest, the quality is a bit inconsistent but chopping off some of the filler there is a very solid EP hiding in there. 'Cross Me' is still probably my fave but I'm really liking 'Antisocial' straight away (and the video for it is pretty funny as well, his videos this era beyond the 50p budget one for 'I Don't Care' have actually been really good) and 'Take Me Back To London' and 'Nothing On You' are my other highlights from the songs not already released before the album. The only big disappointment really was 'Feels' as I thought the artist lineup on that one looked pretty good but the song is very bland and I don't like the chorus at all oops. 'Remember The Name' also had potential but I'm not feeling it too much, I didn't have super high expectations though after how terrible the last Ed & Eminem collab was (it is at least better than that laugh.gif) meanwhile the tracks with Ella Mai and H.E.R. were actually both surprisingly decent.

I’m not sure of the need for the remix but it seems to be helping him be on course to nab yet another #1. I prefer the original version though.
