That was one of the most dramatic few hours of sport I've ever seen. What a remarkable innings from Ben Stokes and a great role played by Jack Leach to keep the last wicket partnership going. Australia really messed it up at the end with the dropped catch, missed run out and using up their last review so they couldn't refer the one a few minutes later which was out but given not out by the umpire when it was 2 runs to win.

England's highest score batting last to win a test match! What a great summer of cricket this has been.

England need a miracle a la Botham Headingley 1981. Awful batting performance from their first innings.

And they did!!!!

This was thrilling as six weeks ago at Lords. Two of the greatest moments in English cricket we've seen. That sheer bottle and never say die attitude from Stokes was phenomenal,.the man with the golden bat and Leach playing his hand in that role he kept his nerves probably the best 1 anyone has scored in cricket. I'm looking highlights of this on the BBC next year.

England's leading Test wicket-taker James Anderson will play no further part in the Ashes against Australia after a recurrence of a calf injury.

The 37-year-old Lancashire seamer bowled only four overs in the first Test and missed the second and third.

He felt pain in the calf on Thursday during a four-day friendly for Lancashire second XI.

Somerset's Craig Overton has been named in England's 13-man squad for the fourth Test at Old Trafford.

England face a huge battle to save the Ashes after Australia took three late wickets on the third day of the fourth Test at Old Trafford.

Josh Hazlewood removed Rory Burns, Joe Root and Jason Roy to leave the home side 200-5, still 297 behind Australia's 497-8 declared.

They need another miracle, England.

England 166/6 at tea on the last day. They have to survive another 36 overs to keep their Ashes hopes alive. Hopefully, there might be some bad light later on.

Australia win the fourth test with 14 overs left and retain the Ashes. Steve Smith was the difference between the two teams.

Absolutely, who knows a fitty Jimmy Anderson and we might have been about even.

Magnificent effort by England, but all in all Australia deserved the victory of the Ashes. Our top order batters are far too inconsistent and Root seems to struggle as captain.
