He showed blatant discrimination towards the new Boris government. Andrea Leadsom said so on TV. I believe her over you.

There is no hope for you whatsoever if you believe anything Andrea Leadsom says, ever. Period.

Well why would she say something like that about him if it wasn't true? It's said they hated each other when she was leader of the house and could hardly bear to talk to each other. Just did the bare formalities. Boris was no fan of his either so I was reading. A lot of MP's liked him but some saw him for what he really was, a remainer doing the best he could, like others, to stop Brexit.

You are clearly biased against Bercow because he doesn’t agree with you about Brexit.

It’s concerning that you believe all Tory politicians at face value.

They didn't like him for the simple reason that he didn't act as a government lackey. He did what he was elected to do, stand up for the rights of backbenchers to hold the government to account. That's how a parliamentary democracy is supposed to work.

Oh come on Chris, not liking someone because Leadsome and Boris are critical of them is bordering on hilarious. Leadsome is a horrible piece of work.

I don't like him because of his bias against the Tory government over Brexit. Not because those others dislike him.

What bias? It is not the job of the Speaker simply to do what the government wants. They are supposed to allow MPs to hold the government to account. At the risk of being repetitive, that's how a parliamentary democracy is supposed to work.

So the new Speaker is predicted by Electoral Calculus to lose his seat. Could he still be speaker if he did?

I assume they haven't taken into account the fact that he is unlikely to be opposed by any of the main parties.

Indeed. There is no way he will lose his seat - only the Greens standing against so far.

I agree the some Tories aren't keen on the NHS, but I find it hard to believe that they'd ever dare try to abolish it - that would give Labour a cast iron landslide in the following GE!

Well, of course they're not going to abolish it. They'll just slowly privatise it, piece by piece, selling it off to outreaches of American companies, and then once the public realises that it starting to cost them a lot more and this isn't the NHS, they'll claim that it's economically unfeasible to roll the changes back and please American investors. That's how they're a threat. It's already far more private than it was 10 years ago.

Voters will call BS on that, as Labour will tell them it *is* feasible.
