Very sad to hear Shane's mother, Mae, passed away. Thank you for pushing the group to be discovered by Louis Simon and all record executives. Without her, we won't hear and see Westlife.

Another end of the decade death for the pop band. Kian and Nicky's father's died in 2009

Yes, Mae really was a starting point for the band and I am sure the Westlife boys will help Shane through this. It was lovely when they all came together when Jodi's mom died.

It looks like Westlife added a new tour date.

Album price marked down to £6.99 on HMV, some for just a day. Some for 2 days.

#11 on last Monday's album update

Irish band overwhelmed by rapturous welcome they receive in China, Chen Nan reports.

Westlife is used to adulation. The Irish pop band is a global phenomenon and sells out concert venues the world over. But even the band members were surprised at the enthusiastic reception they got in Shanghai on Aug 16.

Arriving at the city's National Exhibition and Convention Center for an afternoon rehearsal they were warmly welcomed by more than 5,000 waiting fans.

Westlife's performance received fantastic feedback from fans in the arena and fans who watched the livestreaming elsewhere. The band is no stranger to Macao, after playing two shows there in July.

"We came all the way from across the world and saw the joy on the fans' faces, that's what it's all about," Filan says, adding that their fans in China are very passionate and the songs mean something special to them.

"They (our fans) tell us stories and share their memories, which make us proud."

The group will announce a new global tour in January, says Markus Feehily, one of the lead singers of Westlife, though he didn't give details of dates or cities.

"We want to return to more Chinese cities to meet more fans. They know us so well. They even know our children's and pets' names," Feehily adds.

"For the fans, they have a lot to choose from and they chose us, which is very special for us."

Byrne says of the ideas behind the album: "We are very picky this time and we want to make sure what we have on this album is still Westlife but also works for the current music industry because it has moved on a lot.

"It was an enjoyable process, recording the album. We even recorded three songs in Macao and we had never recorded in Asia before."

Filan adds: "The album has everything that we love in music, heartfelt emotional songs, which are full of energy and are colorful. We will perform more shows for the overseas fan base to get our music out there."

The four members are all fathers, and Feehily recently welcomed his daughter Layla. They have paid touching tributes to their children as they perform the song titled My Blood from the new album.

Their children are their fans too, says Byrne.

"Our children sing our songs at home and they watch our shows," he says, adding that being good fathers, they "try to find a balance between a normal family life and touring life".

I think considering they came back after 7 years and are in fact a 20 year old band, the performance is good. As it was stated, the last time they had been 4 weeks in the top 10 album was with the Back Home album. Plus, look at Harry Styles' heavy promo and yet he isn't selling massively and he will most likely be #3 in the UK.

Yeh sales are down, just thought myself they would establish themselves in the top 3 once the album was released like Rod Stewart has done. (Didn't foresee him being the biggest seller this quarter)!

Because Rod fans are all album sales listeners rather than streamers. Westlife fans are mixed and in the middle. Main factor is their age. Sales plus streams of the album on its first week if we will analyse have the same amount of listeners ten twenty years ago. If we will know the streaming points of the album after the first week then we can analyse the data further

Album had 1.8m streaming points (1.8k equivalent sales) on its first week divided by 11 more or less 169k plus the 60k equals230k. Their biggest opening since 2000s or even even if we cut 169k by half, it will be their best opening since late 00s early 10s

Gravity spent just one week in the top ten, where we are for three weeks

Who doesn't want free stuff?

Take That, a band older than Westlife, have heavier sales but lesser streams too but not as small as Rod's streaming points

If Spectrum was released on the same week as Coldplay and Rod and Robbie, most likely it will have higher ranking but they wanted a #1 album. My prediction, their next album meant for sales will be released late November early December.

Actually, the sales for Sir Rod is very low for as old, as Brit as him and as a heavier sales act.

Most want cheap and free stuff. How? they won't even chart in the vinyls top 40 which are more expensive and fans are not used to it.

#12 this week
#10 Sales, Physical, Scottish
#63 Downloads
#7 Ireland

Sales this week in the UK is 14586 plus 104832 last week equals 119418

140k for the period isn't bad I guess.

Will there be any more singles?
